The critical care environment renders patients unable to share the kind of personal information that illuminates their story outside of the intensive care unit. Therefore, learning about the individuality of this patient population and building caring relationships with them is more difficult than with a fully communicative patient. This quantitative correlational study used a mixed-linear design to focus on evaluating the relationship and interrelationship between self-directed learner readiness via perceived new nurse competence and team work, management support, communication openness, and feedback and communication about errors in relation to hospital patient safety culture.

This project reveals surprising results regarding how nurse leaders assess their ethical decision-making practice before and after attending ethical leadership training. Contrary to the Dunning-Kruger effect, immediately after participating, self-assessment scores elevated. Results endorse nurse leaders' benefit from collaboration and sharing best practice.

Application Of The Transtheoretical Model Of Change To The Smoking Behavior Of Men During Their Partner's Pregnancy, Mary Ellen Tanner

This study describes the smoking behavior and selected characteristics of men during their partner's pregnancy. Constructs of the transtheoretical model of behavior change were used to describe socio-demographic characteristics of these men, to compare their smoking behavior in various stages of change, and to explore the relationship of the smoking behavior of the male partner to that of the pregnant partner. The study used a non-experimental, descriptive correlational design with a self-administered survey tool.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-limiting, autosomal recessive inherited disease that affects approximately 30,000 individuals in the United States. Health problems of children with CF tend to be complex, requiring specialty health services. Often children with CF are cared for in CF Care Centers, where an interdisciplinary care team addresses these needs. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) recommends specific Clinical Practice Guidelines be applied to all patients with CF. Introduction: Millennial nurses are beginning to accept leadership roles and will soon take over governance in the nursing profession and healthcare industry. This study aimed to describe the perspectives on leadership and their practice environment of millennial nurse administrators working in tertiary hospitals in Iloilo City, Philippines. Methods: Eight (8) millennial nurse administrators were purposively chosen. Through a qualitative descriptive inquiry by Sandelowski (2000), data were gathered using semi-structured interviews and analyzed employing qualitative content analysis. Sleep deprivation is common in the acute care setting and contributes to significant adverse patient outcomes. Extraneous noise is responsible for patient awakenings. Nurses' job satisfaction affects work performance at the point of care in hospitals. The incoming nurses who are able to receive a comprehensive patient report at shift change are more prepared in comparison to incoming nurses who are not able to receive a comprehensive patient report to provide care that is safe. The purpose of this project, guided by the theory of organization change, was to explore whether the use of a bedside handover process impacts nurses' satisfaction in an adult postoperative orthopedic and spine unit.

Interprofessional teamwork is recognized as a major contributing factor to safe patient care and improved patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals' attitudes impact successful teamwork. A large, not-for-profit healthcare organization in the southwestern United States conducted a new employee orientation that included content on interprofessional teamwork, and collected quality improvement data that included responses to the TeamSTEPPS® Teamwork Attitudes Questionnaire (T-TAQ). This retrospective, non-experimental, before-after, comparative study analyzed this quality improvement data to determine if there was a significant impact of the interprofessional teamwork-focused orientation on individual team member's attitudes regarding teamwork as measured by the T-TAQ.
