The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between hope, resilience, and empowerment in registered nurses in clinical practice. Initial results show a difference in hope, resilience and empowerment in nurses who participate in shared governance activities compared to those who do not.

In this presentation, we will describe the multi-phase approach we took to develop an evidence-and-ethic informed moral distress intervention for paediatric critical care nurses. Our proposed intervention offers a novel approach to address moral distress and has the potential to better support pediatric critical care nurses experiencing the phenomenon.

Compassion fatigue occurs in unhealthy and violent environments. This qualitative study interviewed 53 emergency department nurses at a Level I trauma center. The ED nurses expressed frustration with addicted patients, negative responses, and decreased job satisfaction. Creating a healthy work environment includes fostering self-awareness and strategies to avoid compassion fatigue.

The AACN Healthy Work Environment Standards include essential evidence-based guidelines for improving nursing and patient outcomes. However, the centering of dominant groups limits the implementation of these standards. This presentation examines strategies for interprofessional healthcare teams to become authentic allies with nondominant groups and to create healthy work environments.

Enhancing interprofessional communication has been shown to improve patient outcomes. Completing case studies can prepare pre-licensure students how to use the SBAR tool effectively. By assessing students using a rubric in sequential nursing courses during simulation laboratory, the impact of interprofessional communication teaching strategies can be evaluated.

This research provides knowledge on how leadership, the work culture, and an Extreme Ownership Program sets foundations for retaining staff and increasing employee tenure. A novel evidence-based leadership training program empowers staff through a decentralized command structure. On average, our employee tenure is double the length of employee tenure nationally.

A mixed-method research study (RCT and qualitative) was conducted to evaluate the impact of Transcendental Meditation (TM®) on clinical nurses’ well-being, and explore the relationship between nurses’ well-being, conscious awareness, and authentic presence. Findings demonstrate the value of TM on development of self-care and authentic presence for self and others.

Our study examined individual and organizational factors of moral resilience among nurses. Moral resilience is a manifestation of well-being that is important in human caring science. Our findings indicated organizational mission/behavior congruence was significantly associated with higher resilience. Organizations should strive for actions consistent with their missions to boost resilience.
