Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study explores the citation errors and level of reference accuracy in the Indian scientometric journal entitled, Journal of Scientometric Research (JSR). One hundred and seventy four journal citations appended in eight research articles appeared in the JSR, volume 9, issue 1, Jan-Apr, 2020, were checked meticulously by breaking them into seven bibliographic components, i.e. author(s) name, article title, journal name, year, volume and issue numbers, and pages (both first and last page); and they were matched with the original source articles. Results reveal that 44.25% (77) citations in JSR were erroneous and remaining 55.75% (97) citations were error free. …

Prediction Of Elastic Stresses In Porous Materials Using Fully Convolutional Networks, Özgür Keleṣ, Yinchuan He, Birsen Sirkeci-Mergen
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Machine learning (ML) models enable exploration of vast structural space faster than the traditional methods, such as finite element method (FEM). This makes ML models suitable for stochastic fracture problems in brittle porous materials. In this work, fully convolutional networks (FCNs) were trained to predict stress and stress concentration factor distributions in two-dimensional isotropic elastic materials with uniform porosity. We show that even with downsampled data, FCN models predict the stress distributions for a given porous structure. FCN predicted stress concentration factors 10,000 times faster than the FEM simulations. The FCN-predicted stresses combined with fracture mechanics captured the effect of …

Influence Of Sequential And Simultaneous Bilingualism On Second Grade Dual Language Students’ Use Of Syntax In Reading, Allison Briceño
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
This study integrated reading and bilingual theories to examine the reading behaviors of second grade Latinx students in a Dual Language program. It explored how the students’ differing language backgrounds (simultaneous bilinguals and sequential bilinguals who had developed Spanish as a home language) might influence their early reading behaviors. Data sources include Spanish and English informal reading inventories and student interviews. While all students struggled with the syntax of grade-level text in Spanish and English, simultaneous bilinguals’ superior ability to use syntax to self-correct in both languages evidenced a stronger syntactical base. The findings have significant implications for equity of …

Library is the indispensable part of educational institution designed to serve educational, cultural, research, recreational information to the users. . Libraries are the places wherever the complete information gathering takes place together with intellectual and our cultural heritage. The collections possessed by the library are affected by numerous environmental factors that ultimately results in irreparable harm to numerous collections. The information embodied in manuscripts is effective however materials used for this purpose cause a true challenge. These manuscripts have proof of facts, their accomplishments, thoughts, work they need done, theories then on, that are essential for human development. These guide …

The use knowledge management technology has been a survival factor for university-based libraries in overcoming challenges faced by libraries in the contemporary dynamic and competitive environment. However, the use of such technologies has been inadequate, ineffective, and fragmented in most university-based libraries within Zimbabwe. Considering this problem, this study assessed the use of knowledge management technologies within an Open and Distance Electronic Learning (ODeL) university-based library. The study was guided by the Technological Acceptance Model (TAM), formulated by Fred Davis in 1986. An embedded design was used, entailing quantitative data sets facilitating a secondary and supportive role in a predominantly …
