Academic Trajectories Of Students With Disabilities And Caregiver Perspectives On Distance Learning In The Covid-19 Pandemic, Charlene Lee

Dissertations

As research on student learning during the COVID-19 pandemic continue to emerge, there remains a dearth of research on students with IEPs and how their caregivers experienced remote learning in a pandemic school year. This study examined the academic trajectories of students with IEPs and their caregivers’ perspectives towards distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Measures included academic data extracted from the 2018–2019 school year and 2020–2021 school year and a survey of parental and caregiver opinions of the pandemic’s impact. Student academic data (N = 270) revealed a significant decrease in reading but not math trajectories. Notable differences were …

Factors That Contribute To Lower Enrollments Of Underrepresented Minority And Female Graduate Students In Computer Science And Engineering (Cse) At Bay Area California State University Campuses And Mitigating Factors From Student Perspectives, Noah G. Price

Dissertations

Over the last decade the Bay Area region has witnessed a lack of diversity in Silicon Valley technology professions, a subject of current political and popular discourse. The California State University (CSU) system provides accessible higher education; the CSU system approach to accessible higher education affirms the distinctness of regions, prepares graduates for professions in these distinct regions, and affirms the diversity in the state and the world. The CSU fall 2019 - 2021 enrollment dashboard data indicated there was a decrease in enrollment of underrepresented minority (URM) in graduate programs across three Bay Area campuses. Public fall 20119 - …

Faculty And Administrator Perspectives On Campus Internationalization At Selected California State University And University Of California Campuses: Individual Efforts And Interconnected Roles, Parinaz Zartoshty

Dissertations

This explanatory mixed-method research study explored campus internationalization trends by examining the practices of faculty and administrators engaged in campus internationalization efforts at selected four-year public institutions in Northern California. Most survey respondents and interviewees recognized the importance of internationalization, prompted greatly by their own personal transformational “international” journey, making them identifiable champions who can assist in promoting internationalization efforts. Most maintained that the system and their individual institutions do not provide adequate incentives to those faculty who are not personally motivated to engage in international activities and acknowledged internationalization does not float to the top of priorities. In instances …

Optimization Of Cmos At Deep Cryogenic Temperatures, Prabjot K. Dhillon May 2022

Optimization Of Cmos At Deep Cryogenic Temperatures, Prabjot K. Dhillon

Master's Theses

Cryogenic CMOS is a sought-out technology because of its applications to fields like quantum computing and deep space exploration. Though slight advancements have been made within the field of cryogenic CMOS technology, there persists critical challenges that need to resolve to further advance the field. Hence, there is a need to solve challenges like understanding the undesirable effects due to the device physics at cryogenic temperatures such as high threshold voltage, kink-effects, abnormal subthreshold swing etc. and developing reliable circuit models because many rely on analytical modeling. The research models a NMOS ON-current and subthreshold slope at temperatures of 300K …

Diet Quality, Diet Motives, And Nutrition Literacy Of Vegans, Vegetarians, And Semi-Vegetarians, Sapna J. Peruvemba May 2022

Diet Quality, Diet Motives, And Nutrition Literacy Of Vegans, Vegetarians, And Semi-Vegetarians, Sapna J. Peruvemba

Master's Theses

Individuals consuming plant-based diets have shown favorable dietary behaviors and diet quality. However, differences in diet quality considering motivations to adopt plant-based (vegan, vegetarian, and semi-vegetarian) diets and nutrition literacy, are not well known. The primary objective of this study was to assess diet quality, diet motives and nutrition literacy in vegans, vegetarians, and semi-vegetarians. The secondary objective was to investigate the association between diet motives and dietary quality. In this cross-sectional study, 223 participants completed an online survey and food frequency questionnaire. The study used the Healthy Eating Index-2015 to measure dietary quality, the Food Choice Questionnaire to measure …

Characteristic Depths, Fluxes, And Timescales For Greenland's Tidewater Glacier Fjords From Subglacial Discharge-Driven Upwelling During Summer, D. A. Slater, Dustin Carroll, H. Oliver, M. J. Hopwood, F. Straneo, M. Wood, J. K. Willis, M. Morlighem

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Greenland's glacial fjords are a key bottleneck in the earth system, regulating exchange of heat, freshwater and nutrients between the ice sheet and ocean and hosting societally important fisheries. We combine recent bathymetric, atmospheric, and oceanographic data with a buoyant plume model to show that summer subglacial discharge from 136 tidewater glaciers, amounting to 0.02 Sv of freshwater, drives 0.6–1.6 Sv of upwelling. Bathymetric analysis suggests that this is sufficient to renew most major fjords within a single summer, and that these fjords provide a path to the continental shelf that is deeper than 200 m for two-thirds of the …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Black women play a vital role in the success of higher education. However, Black women administrators are often successful in the profession without the necessary tools and support. Although Black women administrators experience several barriers in the profession, they still find ways to connect, engage, and find a sense of community. Black women administrators must have an understanding of how to navigate these challenges in the academy as reoccurring issues can become detrimental to their careers. This chapter focuses on the challenges and successes of Black women administrators in higher education at historically white institutions.

Coherent Interactions Between Silicon-Vacancy Centers In Diamond, Matthew W. Day, Kelsey M. Bates, Christopher L. Smallwood, Rachel C. Owen, Tim Schröder, Edward Bielejec, Ronald Ulbricht, Steven T. Cundiff

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

We report tunable excitation-induced dipole-dipole interactions between silicon-vacancy color centers in diamond at cryogenic temperatures. These interactions couple centers into collective states, and excitation-induced shifts tag the excitation level of these collective states against the background of excited single centers. By characterizing the phase and amplitude of the spectrally resolved interaction-induced signal, we observe oscillations in the interaction strength and population state of the collective states as a function of excitation pulse area. Our results demonstrate that excitation-induced dipole-dipole interactions between color centers provide a route to manipulating collective intercenter states in the context of a congested, inhomogeneous ensemble.
