Enhancing Staff Discipline And Effectiveness In Academic Libraries In Delta State, Rachael Ejovwokoghene Eserada Mrs, Ogbomo Monday Obaidjevwe Dr Apr 2024

Enhancing Staff Discipline And Effectiveness In Academic Libraries In Delta State, Rachael Ejovwokoghene Eserada Mrs, Ogbomo Monday Obaidjevwe Dr

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The work surveyed staff discipline in academic libraries in Delta State. It was guided by four objectives of the study. The study adopted the survey design and the population of the study is thirty (30) Heads of the library (the academic Librarian in charge and readers services head) in fifteen academic libraries under study. The questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. Data generated from the study were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage (%). Findings of the study revealed that; although disciplinary procedures are rarely carried out, the discipline procedures mainly demonstrated in the libraries studied …

With the development of artificial intelligence, the intelligence of agriculture has become a trend. Intelligent monitoring of agricultural activities is an important part of it. However, due to difficulties in achieving a balance between quality and cost, the goal of improving the economic benefits of agricultural activities has not reached the expected level. Farm supervision requires intensive human effort and may not produce satisfactory results. In order to achieve intelligent monitoring of agricultural activities and improve economic benefits, this paper proposes a solution that combines unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with deep learning models. The proposed solution aims to detect and …

Origin Of The Correlation Between Stellar Kinematics And Globular Cluster System Richness In Ultradiffuse Galaxies, Joel Pfeffer, Steven R. Janssens, Maria Luisa Buzzo, Jonah S. Gannon, Nate Bastian, Kenji Bekki, Jean P. Brodie, Warrick J. Couch, Robert A. Crain, Duncan A. Forbes, J. M.Diederik Kruijssen, Aaron J. Romanowsky

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Observational surveys have found that the dynamical masses of ultradiffuse galaxies (UDGs) correlate with the richness of their globular cluster (GC) system. This could be explained if GC-rich galaxies formed in more massive dark matter haloes. We use simulations of galaxies and their GC systems from the E-MOSAICS project to test whether the simulations reproduce such a trend. We find that GC-rich simulated galaxies in galaxy groups have enclosed masses that are consistent with the dynamical masses of observed GC-rich UDGs. However, simulated GC-poor galaxies in galaxy groups have higher enclosed masses than those observed. We argue that GC-poor UDGs …

Finding Identities: Identities In Video Games From A Gender, Race, And Identity Representation, Osayame Erinmwingbovo Apr 2024

Finding Identities: Identities In Video Games From A Gender, Race, And Identity Representation, Osayame Erinmwingbovo

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

In this paper I will bring light to the exploration of gender, race, and identity in video games. While also having a focus on how the representation crosses with social and cultural contexts. I will be researching different games from many different genres, which will show light to the way video games reflect and shape societal attitudes towards gender, race, and identity. When using close textual analysis and theoretical framework from topics that include critical race theory, media, and feminist theory. This research will help to seek to explore the nuances and complexities of representation in gaming which implicates video …

Exploring Situational Factors For Female International Students And Their Satisfaction In Higher Education Using Cb-Sem, Dian Fu Chang, Angel Chang, Cheng Yi Kang Apr 2024

Exploring Situational Factors For Female International Students And Their Satisfaction In Higher Education Using Cb-Sem, Dian Fu Chang, Angel Chang, Cheng Yi Kang

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

While the topic of attracting and maintaining inbound international students has received much scholarly attention in higher education, attracting female international students has rarely been discussed. This study addresses the issue of attracting degree-seeking female international students. Based on the notion of situational factors and total quality management (TQM), we assumed both institutional design and students’ satisfaction are core concepts for attracting and retaining female international students that will make a difference in higher education. A total of 215 survey responses were analyzed, and a covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) approach was developed. The results confirm female international students’ perception …

Anonymous Traffic Detection Based On Feature Engineering And Reinforcement Learning, Dazhou Liu, Younghee Park Apr 2024

Anonymous Traffic Detection Based On Feature Engineering And Reinforcement Learning, Dazhou Liu, Younghee Park

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Anonymous networks, which aim primarily to protect user identities, have gained prominence as tools for enhancing network security and anonymity. Nonetheless, these networks have become a platform for adversarial affairs and sources of suspicious attack traffic. To defend against unpredictable adversaries on the Internet, detecting anonymous network traffic has emerged as a necessity. Many supervised approaches to identify anonymous traffic have harnessed machine learning strategies. However, many require access to engineered datasets and complex architectures to extract the desired information. Due to the resistance of anonymous network traffic to traffic analysis and the scarcity of publicly available datasets, those approaches …

Chapter 17. Spoken Discourse And Second Language Research, Midori Ishida Mar 2024

Chapter 17. Spoken Discourse And Second Language Research, Midori Ishida

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Spoken discourse is the primordial means by which humans engage in social life and it has been studied from an array of approaches with their own ontological and epistemological orientations to language and communication. The present chapter surveys two primary strands of research on spoken discourse involving second language speakers: (1) studies that approach discourse as a means of revealing second language speakers’ competences and their developmental trajectories, and (2) those that approach discourse as a site for second language learning. The views of competences have gone through diversification, from a focus on discourse competence for creating cohesive monologic text …

Casa: A Compact And Scalable Accelerator For Approximate Homomorphic Encryption, Pengzhou He, Samira Carolina Oliva Madrigal, Çetin Kaya Koç, Tianyou Bao, Jiafeng Xie

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Approximate arithmetic-based homomorphic encryption (HE) scheme CKKS [CKKS17] is arguably the most suitable one for real-world data-privacy applications due to its wider computation range than other HE schemes such as BGV [BGV14], FV and BFV [Bra12, FV12]. However, the most crucial homomorphic operation of CKKS called key-switching induces a great amount of computational burden in actual deployment situations, and creates scalability challenges for hardware acceleration. In this paper, we present a novel Compact And Scalable Accelerator (CASA) for CKKS on the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) platform. The proposed CASA addresses the aforementioned computational and scalability challenges in homomorphic operations, including …

Judicial Libraries As Predictors For Effective Administration Of Justice In Nigeria, Emmanuel Owushi Mar 2024

Judicial Libraries As Predictors For Effective Administration Of Justice In Nigeria, Emmanuel Owushi

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The study examined judicial libraries as predictors for effective administration of justice in Nigeria. The population involved all legal practitioners and legal educators in Nigeria. 4000 respondents were sampled. Due to unavailability of the population at the time of the study, the adopted convenience sampling technique to sample 4000 respondents across legal professional bodies in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire titled ‘Use of Judicial Library and Administration of Justice Scale’ was used for data collection. The questionnaire was structured with the 4-point Likert scale response style, designed on Google form and distributed to the respondents via various social media platforms. A …
