Automating Text Encapsulation Using Deep Learning, Anket Sah

Master's Projects

Data is an important aspect in any form be it communication, reviews, news articles, social media data, machine or real-time data. With the emergence of Covid-19, a pandemic seen like no other in recent times, information is being poured in from all directions on the internet. At times it is overwhelming to determine which data to read and follow. Another crucial aspect is separating factual data from distorted data that is being circulated widely. The title or short description of this data can play a key role. Many times, these descriptions can deceive a user with unwanted information. The user …

American Sign Language Assistant, Charulata Lodha May 2021

American Sign Language Assistant, Charulata Lodha

Master's Projects

Our implementation of a prototype computer vision system to help the deaf and mute
communicate in a shopping setting. Our system uses live video feeds to recognize American Sign Language (ASL) gestures and notify shop clerks of deaf and mute patrons’ intents. It generates a video dataset in the Unity Game Engine of 3D humanoid models in a shop setting performing ASL signs. Our system uses OpenPose to detect and recognize the bone points of the human body
from the live feed. The system then represents the motion sequences as high dimensional skeleton joint point trajectories followed by a time-warping …

Visual And Lingual Emotion Recognition Using Deep Learning Techniques, Akshay Kajale May 2021

Visual And Lingual Emotion Recognition Using Deep Learning Techniques, Akshay Kajale

Master's Projects

Emotion recognition has been an integral part of many applications like video games, cognitive computing, and human computer interaction. Emotion can be recognized by many sources including speech, facial expressions, hand gestures and textual attributes. We have developed a prototype emotion recognition system using computer vision and natural language processing techniques. Our goal hybrid system uses mobile camera frames and features abstracted from speech named Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) to recognize the emotion of a person. To acknowledge the emotions based on facial expressions, we have developed a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, which has an accuracy of 68%. …

Geographic And Ontogenetic Variation In The Trophic Ecology Of Lingcod (Ophiodon Elongatus) Along The U.S. West Coast, Bonnie Brown May 2021

Geographic And Ontogenetic Variation In The Trophic Ecology Of Lingcod (Ophiodon Elongatus) Along The U.S. West Coast, Bonnie Brown

Master's Theses

Dietary studies of fishes provide an understanding of predator-prey interactions and may be used to inform resource managers about food web dynamics. Along the West Coast of North America, Lingcod (Ophiodon elongatus) are top marine predators in rocky-reef habitats and support an economically important fishery. In this study, gut content and stable isotope analyses were used to evaluate differences in the diets of Lingcod collected in U.S. waters from Alaska to Southern California during 2016 and 2017. Overall, Lingcod consumed a wide variety of prey and exhibited both generalist and opportunist feeding strategies. Significant variability in Lingcod diets was driven …

Jan Van Kessel I. Catalogs And Painting: Redefining The Role Of Animals In Seventeenth-Century Fish Landscapes., Ana Borlas-Ivern May 2021

Jan Van Kessel I. Catalogs And Painting: Redefining The Role Of Animals In Seventeenth-Century Fish Landscapes., Ana Borlas-Ivern

Master's Theses

Images of animals were produced in abundance in the Low Countries during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Animals appeared in prints, the pages of natural history catalogs, and the backgrounds of paintings, eventually emerging in their own right as a primary subject in painting. This thesis begins by examining the economic circumstances that converged in sixteenth-century Antwerp to give way to this development. It then traces the legacy of the animal genre in the seventeenth century through five fish landscape paintings that Antwerp painter Jan van Kessel I (1626-1679) completed in the 1660s. This study argues that van Kessel redefined …

Assessing Convolutional Neural Network Animal Classification Models For Practical Applications In Wildlife Conservation, Julia Larson May 2021

Assessing Convolutional Neural Network Animal Classification Models For Practical Applications In Wildlife Conservation, Julia Larson

Master's Theses

Convolution neural network models (CNNs) can successfully identify animal species in camera-trap images in simplified testing environments. CNN performance in more complex, realistic environments is understudied. Here the Wellington Camera Traps dataset was used to simulate a wildlife conservation project to detect invasive species at low population levels using camera-trap images and CNN models. Ten CNNs were developed and analyzed with seven testing datasets, simulating 13 possible project scenarios. Model performance was measured using standard computer science metrics, top-1, and top-5 accuracy, and two novel performance metrics developed for this research to directly reflect wildlife conservation goals, false alarm rate, …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Environmental-related studies have been entirely essential in the current range of human civilizations. The relationship between the environment and literature is uniform. Various environmental issues and literature have revealed different aspects. One such significant aspect is ecocriticism. Ecocriticism is the study of representations of nature in literary works and the relationship between literature and the environment. As a separate movement or school of literary criticism, ecocriticism started developing in the 1990s. There is a close relation between ecocriticism and literature. Bibliometric Analysis Of Particle Swarm Optimization Techniques Used To Enhance Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy Protocol For Wireless Sensor Networks, Anupkumar M. Bongale Dr.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a network of tiny wireless sensor nodes. The sensor nodes sense information and transmit the sensed information to a data collection point known as Base Station. WSNs have gained massive popularity due to their incredible benefits, and active research is ongoing for the past two decades. The primary concern with WSN is that the sensor operates on a limited power supply. Due to the nature of applications of WSNs and the hostile environment where the sensors are deployed, providing unlimited power or energy supply is not an option. Hence, the research work mainly focuses on …
