The study presented in this paper has examined the research productivity, for the period 2004–2019, of four agricultural universities located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The 4,120 research publications of these agricultural universities, as reflected in the publications-related output of the Indian Citation Index, were analysed to ascertain the growth and patterns in agricultural research. This study presented, among other things, the year-wise distribution of research productivity, co authorship index, and collaborative index, degree of collaboration, most prolific authors and top-ranked sources preferred by the agricultural faculty members for publishing their research output. It was found that there was …

The 3-degree Digital Twin robotic arm for freedom can diagnose the joints off-board by placing a torque in the robotic arm joint. MATLAB, Simulink®, SimscapeTM, and Simscape Multibody were the basis of this model. Virtual space with a virtual robot arm was connected to a physical space that was a 3D printed replica of the virtual space and robot arm, built using Unity (a modern Game Engine). The arm in the Digital Twin model was created using the hardware prototype’s dimensions, which were then used to simulate a real-world situation. With its revolute joints, the arm has a certain degree …

Information is important for all human activities and represents a fundamental input in knowledge creation. Just like in any other human activity, relevant, accurate, and timely information is critical to the success of livestock production and marketing. This study examined the information use behaviors of sedentary livestock farmers in Egbeda Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria, specifically, the farmers’ perceived knowledge on livestock production, marketing information needs, attitude to, and preferred information sources, information seeking activities, and challenges faced when seeking for information. The descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected, using a questionnaire, from 155 sedentary livestock farmers; …

Alcohol is a known teratogen, and developmental exposure to ethanol results in fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Children born with FASD can exhibit a range of symptoms including low birth weight, microcephaly, and neurobehavioral problems. Treatment of patients with FASD is estimated to cost 4 billion dollars per year in the United States alone, and 2 million dollars per affected individual's lifetime. We have established Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism for the study of FASD. Here we report that mutations in Dementin (Dmtn), the Drosophila ortholog of the Alzheimer's disease-associated protein TMCC2, convey sensitivity to developmental ethanol exposure, …

The use of amino acid (AA) nitrogen stable isotopes (δ15N) from consumer tissues aims to provide precise estimates of trophic position (TP), but the drivers of AA isotope fractionation remain unclear. In particular, the main factors driving the variability in TEFAA among taxonomic groups and trophic levels remain largely unexplained, which challenges the application of universal values for TEFs. While the relationship between protein content and quality and TEFs has been examined, studies have yielded inconsistent results, and the role of protein and lipid nutritional requirements as well as feeding regime have not been considered. Likewise, drivers that influence physiological …

Anthropogenic noise can alter marine mammal behaviour and physiology, but little is known about cetacean cardiovascular responses to exposures, despite evidence that acoustic stressors, such as naval sonars, may lead to decompression sickness. Here, we measured heart rate and movements of two trained harbour porpoises during controlled exposure to 6–9 kHz sonar-like sweeps and 40 kHz peak-frequency noise pulses, designed to evoke acoustic startle responses. The porpoises initially responded to the sonar sweep with intensified bradycardia despite unaltered behaviour/ movement, but habituated rapidly to the stimuli. In contrast, 40 kHz noise pulses consistently evoked rapid muscle flinches (indicative of startles), …

Understanding encounters between marine predators and fisheries across national borders and outside national jurisdictions offers new perspectives on unwanted interactions to inform ocean management and predator conservation. Although seabird–fisheries overlap has been documented at many scales, remote identification of vessel encounters has lagged because vessel movement data often are lacking. Here, we reveal albatrosses–fisheries associations throughout the North Pacific Ocean. We identified commercial fishing operations using Global Fishing Watch data and algorithms to detect fishing vessels. We compiled GPS tracks of adult black-footed Phoebastria nigripes and Laysan Phoebastria immutabilis albatrosses, and juvenile short-tailed albatrosses Phoebastria albatrus. We quantified albatrosses-vessel encounters …

On the U.S. West Coast, reports of whales entangled in fishing gear increased dramatically in 2014. In this study, a time series of fishing activity maps was developed from 2009 to 2016 for the four fixed-gear fisheries most commonly implicated in entanglements. Maps were generated using vessel monitoring system (VMS) data linked to port-level landings databases, which were related to entangled whale reports over the same time period and with modelled distributions of humpback whales Megaptera novaeangliae Borowski. Over the full study period, neither marked increases in fishing activity nor changes in fisheries footprints within regions with high whale densities …

The disease is highly contagious much as the rate of information and misinformation diffusion about it. Whereas members of the public might have shared information on COVID-19 but library and information professionals (LIPs) are trained on the meaningful use of information and information dissemination through social infrastructure. Thus, this paper studied in Nigeria, the COVID-19 information dissemination behavior of LIPs, using the survey research approach. Data were collected through …

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has performed many experiments on the International Space Station (ISS) to further understand how conditions in space can affect life on Earth. This project analyzed GLDS-258, a gene set from NASA’s GeneLab repository which examines the impact of microgravity on human induced pluripotent stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs). While many datasets have been run through NASA’s RNA-Seq Consensus Pipeline (RCP) to study differential gene expression in space, a Homo sapiens dataset has yet to be analyzed using the RCP. The aim of this project was to run the first Homo sapiens dataset, GLDS-258, through the …

Financial Capacity (FC) is the ability to manage one’s financial affairs, which is essential for autonomy and independence particularly for aging adults. Since dementia develops gradually, it is often difficult to detect the early signs that this cognitive dysfunction is developing This project aims to use Neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) to identify the white matter tracts that are associated with FC. Diffusion Tensor Images (DTI) and T1 Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) of 18 Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) subjects, 47 Mild Cognitive Impaired (MCI) subjects, and 193 healthy control (CN) are compared to neuropsychological tests. Little is known about the effects of large-scale breeding range expansions on the ecology of top marine predators. We examined the effects of a recent range expansion on the breeding and foraging ecology of Laysan albatrosses (Phoebastria immutabilis). Laysan albatrosses expanded from historical breeding colonies in the Central Pacific Ocean to the Eastern Pacific Ocean around central Baja California, Mexico, leading to a 4,000-km shift from colonies located adjacent to the productive transition zone in the Central Pacific to colonies embedded within the eastern boundary current upwelling system of the Eastern Pacific California Current. We use electronic tagging and remote …

This paper will take the form of an analysis, with video games as the medium/text that will be analysed. Although analysis is typically reserved for poems, books, short stories, or plays, video games are simply a form of conveying ideas and a form of text that is representative of the 21st century. Video games is a rare medium that has an interactive element, which can alter/enhance the experience an audience member can have, even if there were the same audio/visual components in a film or play. In most forms of media with an audio component, the analysis is done by …
