Since its introduction in 2002, dark-triad research—the simultaneous study of psychopathy, narcissism, and Machiavellianism—has exploded, with the publication of hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, books, and chapters, as well as coverage by the lay media. Unfortunately, several limitations to this research are unrecognized or ignored. These limitations include (a) the treatment of dark-triad constructs as unidimensional, contrary to evidence for their multidimensionality; (b) the indistinctness between current measures of Machiavellianism and psychopathy; (c) the use of multivariate statistical approaches that pose statistical and interpretive difficulties; (d) failure to test dark-triad relations directly against one another; and (e) methodological concerns related to …
Urban Underground Infrastructure Monitoring Iot: The Path Loss Analysis, Abdul Salam, Syed Shah
Urban Underground Infrastructure Monitoring Iot: The Path Loss Analysis, Abdul Salam, Syed Shah
Faculty Publications
The extra quantities of wastewater entering the pipes can cause backups that result in sanitary sewer overflows. Urban underground infrastructure monitoring is important for controlling the flow of extraneous water into the pipelines. By combining the wireless underground communications and sensor solutions, the urban underground IoT applications such as real time wastewater and storm water overflow monitoring can be developed. In this paper, the path loss analysis of wireless underground communications in urban underground IoT for wastewater monitoring has been presented. It has been shown that the communication range of up to 4 kilometers can be achieved from an underground …

Polybromo1 (PBRM1) is a chromatin remodeler subunit highly mutated in cancer, particularly clear cell renal carcinoma. PBRM1 is a member of the SWI/SNF subcomplex, PBAF (PBRM1-Brg1/Brm-associated factors), and is characterized by six tandem bromodomains. Here we establish a role for PBRM1 in epithelial cell maintenance through the expression of genes involved in cell adhesion, metabolism, stress response, and apoptosis. In support of a general role for PBRM1 in stress response and apoptosis, we observe that loss of PBRM1 results in an increase in reactive oxygen species generation and a decrease in cellular viability under stress conditions. We find that loss …

Collaborative Product–Service Approach To Aviation Maintenance, Repair, And Overhaul. Part Ii: Numerical Investigations, Cassio Dias Goncalves, Michael Kokkolaras
Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering
This two-part paper proposes a new collaborative approach to airframe maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO). A quantitative model is introduced in Part I to represent the business relationships between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and MRO enterprises. In Part II, the presented model is used to assess potential financial benefits obtained by each of these stakeholders as a result of the collaboration.
The quantitative model is built to capture the main dependencies between an independent MRO operating in South America and its interactions with three major airframe OEMs. Interviews were conducted with MRO and OEM professionals to identify the most impactful …

An Underground Radio Wave Propagation Prediction Model For Digital Agriculture, Abdul Salam
Faculty Publications
Underground sensing and propagation of Signals in the Soil (SitS) medium is an electromagnetic issue. The path loss prediction with higher accuracy is an open research subject in digital agriculture monitoring applications for sensing and communications. The statistical data are predominantly derived from site-specific empirical measurements, which is considered an impediment to universal application. Nevertheless, in the existing literature, statistical approaches have been applied to the SitS channel modeling, where impulse response analysis and the Friis open space transmission formula are employed as the channel modeling tool in different soil types under varying soil moisture conditions at diverse communication distances …

Le Personnel Est Politique: Médias, Esthétique Et Politique De L'Autofiction Chez Christine Angot, Chloé Delaume Et Nelly Arcan, Mercédès Baillargeon
Purdue Studies in Romance Literatures
Structural Damping By Layers Of Fibrous Media Applied To A Periodically-Constrained Vibrating Panel, Yutong Xue, J Stuart Bolton, Thomas Herdtle, Seungkyu Lee, Ronald W. Gerdes
Structural Damping By Layers Of Fibrous Media Applied To A Periodically-Constrained Vibrating Panel, Yutong Xue, J Stuart Bolton, Thomas Herdtle, Seungkyu Lee, Ronald W. Gerdes
Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories
It has recently been demonstrated that layers of fibrous, "acoustical" material can effectively damp structural vibration in the sub-critical frequency range. In that frequency range, the acoustical near-field of a panel consists of oscillatory flow oriented primarily parallel with the panel surface. When a fibrous layer occupies that region, energy is dissipated by the viscous interaction of the near-field and the fibrous medium, and the result is a damping of the panel motion. Previously, the damping effect has been demonstrated to occur for line-driven, infinite panels and panels with isolated constraints. In this article, the focus is instead on periodically-constrained …
Composable, Sound Transformations Of Nested Recursion And Loops, Kirshanthan Sundararajah, Milind Kulkarni
Composable, Sound Transformations Of Nested Recursion And Loops, Kirshanthan Sundararajah, Milind Kulkarni
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Scheduling transformations reorder a program’s operations to improve locality and/or parallelism. The polyhedral model is a general framework for composing and applying instancewise scheduling transformations for loop-based programs, but there is no analogous framework for recursive programs. This paper presents an approach for composing and applying scheduling transformations—like inlining, interchange, and code motion—to nested recursive programs. This paper describes the phases of the approach—representing dynamic instances, composing and applying transformations, reasoning about correctness—and shows that these techniques can verify the soundness of composed transformations.

Rheo-Physical Characterization Of Microstructure And Flow Behavior Of Concentrated Surfactant Solutions, Eduard Caicedo Casso, Jason E Bice, Lisa R. Nielsen, Jessica L Sargent, Seth Lindberg, Kendra Erk
School of Materials Engineering Faculty Publications
Processing-relevant relationships between the microstructure and flow behavior of concentrated surfactant solutions were determined by a combination of basic rheological experiments, rheo-flow velocimetry tests, and flow birefringence measurements. The most common surfactant microstructures found in liquid soaps and other consumer care products—spherical, worm-like, and hexagonally packed micelles and lamellar structures—were recreated by varying the concentration of sodium laureth sulfate in water from 20 to 70 wt% and adding salt in some cases. It was found that common features of flow curves, such as power-law shear thinning behavior, resulted from a wide variety of material responses including shear-induced wall slip in …

The Role Of Faculty Mentoring In Improving Retention And Completion Rates For Historically Underrepresented Stem Students, Kelli L. Chelberg, Lisa Bosman
Technology Leadership and Innovation Faculty Publications
There is a growing recognition of the need for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workers who provide diverse perspectives enabling companies to keep up with the demands of the 21st -century workforce. Creating a diverse workforce requires improving access to STEM education for historically underrepresented students, including low-income students and first-generation students. However, significant challenges and barriers exist. The purpose of this paper is to showcase an innovative approach to mentoring historically underrepresented STEM students which integrates photovoice and photo-elicitation. This new approach in mentoring takes student participation one step further by asking students to document and share their …
