Programming Of Path Specific Robot Operations With Optimal Part Placement, Rick Guptill, Shaheen Ahmad
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
In this paper we describe a task level programming system for path specific robot operations. We define path specific tasks as those robot tasks in which the path the manipulator end effector has to follow is fixed and is given, such operations may include welding or sealant application. The initial path selection is made through a graphical interface using a pointing device (such as a mouse) to outline the desired path on a CAD model of the workpiece. The final result of the system is the part location, which enables the chosen manipulator to optimally perform the desired task. Optimality …

Investigation Of A Resistive-Gate Mesfet Contiguous Domain Oscillator, Yiwen Yin, James A. Cooper Jr., Hua Fu
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The goal of this research is to investigate a novel microwave oscillator — the MESFET version contiguous domain oscillator. By combining the transferred electron effect in GaAs material with the two dimensional electrostatics in the device, a series of contiguous electron packets can be generated in the channel of a resistive gate MESFET. Therefore this novel device can eliminate some restraints which are suffered by the presently existing oscillators, and provides unique new features for oscillators: a wide range of oscillation frequency (from a few tens of GHz to a hundred GHz), an ideal current source, instantaneous frequency tuning, compatibility …
Time-Optimal And Conflict-Free Mappings Of Uniform Dependence Algorithms Into Lower Dimensional Processor Arrays, Weijia Shang, Jose A. B. Fortes
Time-Optimal And Conflict-Free Mappings Of Uniform Dependence Algorithms Into Lower Dimensional Processor Arrays, Weijia Shang, Jose A. B. Fortes
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Most existing methods of mapping algorithms into processor arrays are restricted to the case where n-dimensional algorithms or algorithms with n nested loops are mapped into (n—l)-dimensional arrays. However, in practice, it is interesting to map n-dimensional algorithms into (k —l)-dimensional arrays where k<.n. For example, many algorithms at bit-level are at least 4-dimensional (matrix multiplication, convolution, LU decomposition, etc.) and most existing bit level processor arrays are 2-dimensional. A computational conflict occurs if two or more computations of an algorithm are mapped into the same processor and the same execution time. In this paper, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived to identify all mappings without computational conflicts, based on the Hermite normal form of the mapping matrix. These conditions are used to propose methods of mapping any n-dimensional algorithm into (k— l)-dimensional arrays, kn—3, optimality of the mapping is guaranteed.

This document contains a listing of the Pascal source code for the Nihongo Tutor program. This code is designed to be executed on Macintosh computers under the Kanjitalk operating system. It was written by Kei Wai Leung under the supervision of Anthony A. Maciejewski as part of the Nihongo Tutorial System, a set of programs designed to assist scientists and engineers acquire a reading knowledge of technical Japanese. As this is an ongoing project, portions of this code are under revision. This project is funded by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. INT-8818039. The government has certain rights in …

The Nihongo tutorial system presented here is an intelligent tutorial system designed to use a computer to assist scientists and engineers in developing reading competence in technical Japanese. It is comprised of three applications: the Nihongo Tutor, the Parse Tree Editor and the Administrator. The Nihongo Tutor provides useful information about an article such as an English translation, syntax, and pronunciation to help the student to comprehend the text of a personalized lesson. It also records the student's performance into his personal database which reflects his current Japanese language proficiency. The Administrator uses the personal data of a student to …
