Mdp (Machine Drive Power) Intelligent Compaction Technology, Purdue Ect Team
Mdp (Machine Drive Power) Intelligent Compaction Technology, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
Caterpillar developed MDP (Machine Drive Power) technology to fill this gap. Rather than an accelerometer and vibratory drum, it uses the principle of rolling resistance to provide indications of soil stiffness. This allows it to perform more reliably on cohesive and granular soils with less variability than accelerometer systems. It also means that the technology can be used on both vibratory and static drum compactors, which are often used on larger sites. While the technology is quite useful on its own, it is even better as a complementary technology to the existing accelerometer-based systems. Contractors who use vibratory soil compactors …

The Roles Of Internal Representation And Processing In Problem Solving Involving Insight: A Computational Complexity Perspective, Todd Wareham
The Journal of Problem Solving
In human problem solving, there is a wide variation between individuals in problem solution time and success rate, regardless of whether or not this problem solving involves insight. In this paper, we apply computational and parameterized analysis to a plausible formalization of extended representation change theory (eRCT), an integration of problem solving by problem space search and insight as problem restructuring which proposes that this variation may be explainable by individuals having different problem representations and search heuristic choices. Our analyses establish not only the intractability of eRCT in general, but also sets of restrictions under which eRCT-based problem solving …
Heuristics For Comparing The Lengths Of Completed E-Tsp Tours: Crossings And Areas, James N. Macgregor
Heuristics For Comparing The Lengths Of Completed E-Tsp Tours: Crossings And Areas, James N. Macgregor
The Journal of Problem Solving
The article reports three experiments designed to explore heuristics used in comparing the lengths of completed Euclidean Traveling Salesman Problem (E-TSP) tours. The experiments used paired comparisons in which participants judged which of two completed tours of the same point set was shorter. The first experiment manipulated two factors, the presence/absence of crossed arcs, and the relative areas of the enclosed polygons. Both factors significantly influenced judgments, with the absence of crossings and smaller areas being associated with shorter tours. The second experiment examined the effects of crossings only, and compared stimulus pairs using all possible combinations of no, one, …

Conditional cash transfer (CCT) programs to increase primary-school enrollment and attendance among low-income households have been shown to benefit children and households, but to date little is known about who joins such programs. We test three hypotheses about predictors of CCT program participation in indigenous societies in Bolivia, focusing on attributes of the household (ethnicity), parents (modern human capital), and children (age, sex). We model whether children receive a transfer from Bolivia’s CCT program (Bono Juancito Pinto), using data from 811 school-age children and nine ethnic groups. Children from the group least exposed to Westerners (Tsimane’) are 18–22 …

IMPACT Reports
This is the 2018 annual report of Instruction Matters: Purdue Academic Course Transformation (IMPACT). IMPACT was created in 2010, and is a large collaborative initiative on the Purdue West Lafayette campus involving multiple key partners across campus including the Office of the Provost, Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE), Information Technologies at Purdue (ITaP), Purdue Libraries and School of Information Studies, the Evaluation and Learning Research Center (ELRC), and Purdue Online Learning. IMPACT works with instructors to redesign large enrollment, foundational courses with the aim of engaging students more fully in their learning and creating a more student-centered environment, with the …

Midwest Vegetable Trial Report For 2017, Elizabeth Maynard, Brad R. Bergefurd, Wenjing Guan, Petrus Langenhoven
Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports
This is a compilation of 19 research trial reports from six land-grant universities in the Midwestern United States. Crops include green beans, cantaloupe, cucumber, ornamental corn, pepper, potato, pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet corn, tomato, and watermelon. Several crops were evaluated in high tunnels or hoophouses. Most trials evaluated different cultivars or varieties. One report addressed specific growing practices: plant spacing for sweet corn.

Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports
This is a compilation of 18 research trial reports from four land-grant universities in the Midwestern United States. Crops include cantaloupe, pickling cucumber, pepper, potato, pumpkin, summer squash and zucchini, sweet corn, tomato, and watermelon. Somecrops were evaluated in high tunnels or hoophouses. Most trials evaluated different cultivars or varieties. One report addressed plant spacing for sweet corn and one addressed soil block for production of tomato seedlings. A list of vegetable seed sources and a list of other online sources of vegetable trial reports are also included.

Tomato Cultivar Evaluation In High Tunnels, Northern Indiana, 2017, Elizabeth Maynard, Erin A. Bluhm
Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports
Tomatoes are a common crop grown in unheated greenhouses, commonly called high tunnels. Production in these structures has increased in recent years. This trial was conducted to evaluate varieties for their performance as a summer-harvested crop in soil-based high tunnel production systems. Five hybrid determinate varieties or line, one hybrid indeterminate, and one open-pollinated indeterminate variety were compared for yield, earliness, fruit size, and quality.
