Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research
Purpose
Librarians in higher education have adopted curriculum mapping in an effort to determine where effective information literacy instruction can help fill gaps in curriculum and prepare students both for coursework and for future research demands. While curriculum mapping has been utilized widely across academia, few studies have considered business curriculum and the development of information literacy instruction. This paper will provide an overview of the current landscape of curriculum mapping across business courses at two institutions and will provide a replicable methodology for other institutions.

Erp System Post-Implementation Success Factors In A Higher Education Institution., Lin Qian
Erp System Post-Implementation Success Factors In A Higher Education Institution., Lin Qian
Open Access Dissertations
ERP systems have been implemented in many industries and institutions, and widely researched. However, it has been observed that many Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) fail to achieve their expectations following ERP implementation, yet they move to the post-implementation phase in spite of the system’s issues. This study aimed to provide the fundamentals of an assessment framework by examining the relationship of critical success factors leading the ERP system’s success at the post-implementation phase in HEI. Through a review of previous literature, nine potential factors were applied to the existing measurement model developed in prior related studies. The nine factors are: …

Perspectives On Video Games As Art, Jeroen Bourgonjon, Geert Vandermeersche, Kris Rutten, Niels Quinten
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In their article "Perspectives on Video Games as Art" Jeroen Bourgonjon, Geert Vndermeersche, Kris Rutten and Niels Quinten engage in discussing whether or not video games can be considered a form of art. Although this question has already been discussed elaborately, the debate is guided by many different and often conflicting positions. The aim of this article is to revisit this debate by mapping out a range of perspectives on video games as art. The authors explore the relation between games and different definitions and functions of art, different motives of artists, and the potential impact of the arts. The …
Continuity And Disruption In European Networks Of Print Production, 1550-1750, Matthew D. Lincoln
Continuity And Disruption In European Networks Of Print Production, 1550-1750, Matthew D. Lincoln
Artl@s Bulletin
Computational analysis of the potential historical professional networks inferred from surviving print impressions offers novel insight into the evolution of early modern artistic printmaking in Europe. This analysis traces a longue durée print production history that examines the changing ways in which different regional printmaking communities interacted between 1550 and 1750, highlighting the powerful impact of demographic forces and calling in to question narratives based on single key individuals or the emergence of specific national schools.

Stay Calm And Cover Your Assessment: Creating A Culture Of Assessment On A Shoestring, Audrey Powers, Susan Silver, Matthew C. Torrence
Charleston Library Conference
Academic libraries engage in assessment for a variety of reasons. Improving processes, responding to customer needs, fulfilling accreditation reporting requirements, and demonstrating impact and value to the institution are just a few. Many academic libraries find themselves in the position of being required to prove they are fulfilling a mission that contributes to the academic success of students and their value to the institution. Assessment is no longer a choice for libraries—it has become an expectation. Although most libraries are already doing some form of assessment, there seems to be little effort in many institutions to build a culture of …

The student authors of this essay are a group of eight participating in the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) program on the Habitat for Humanity (HFH) team. In this article, they describe how they have improved the working conditions within the loft space of the local Habitat for Humanity office in Lafayette, Indiana. Their work is intended to permanently improve the safety conditions of the loft, as well as the organization of the equipment within the loft. The specific safety concerns addressed by the HFH team include horizontal steel trusses at head level and an unprotected access opening in …

3d Design Models To Construction (Data Centric Approach), Michael Jenkins, Andrew Pangallo, Derek Fuller
Purdue Road School
One aspect of e-Construction is reducing paper use, and many DOTs have successfully reduced their use of paper documents. INDOT wants to take this further by adding a data-centric approach, which focuses on the transfer of data from 3D design models to construction and then to asset management. In this presentation we discuss this initiative.
Stem High School Teachers’ Views Of Implementing Pbl: An Investigation Using Anecdote Circles, Aimée L. Dechambeau, Susan E. Ramlo
Stem High School Teachers’ Views Of Implementing Pbl: An Investigation Using Anecdote Circles, Aimée L. Dechambeau, Susan E. Ramlo
Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning
Problem-based learning (PBL) has been gaining in popularity, especially within the context of STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) schools. Program assessments for these schools typically focus on student standardized test scores rather than the needs of the teachers. This study utilized anecdote circles, storytelling via moderated group discussions, to investigate teachers’ needs related to developing and implementing authentic, interdisciplinary PBL activities in an urban, public STEM high school. Teacher experiences and viewpoints were explored within three broad themes: assessment; coaching and training; and authentic learning. The analyses provide insights for transitioning a school for effective PBL implementation as well …

Mitigating Madness: How We Authenticate And Authorize Users To Deliver Databases In A Contractually Complicated Context, Jeremy M. Brown, Geoffrey P. Timms
Charleston Library Conference
During the 2011 overhaul of the Mercer University Libraries website we developed an authentication system to interface with EZProxy and our campus Active Directory system that provides convenient management and delivery of our A–Z database listing. With multiple campuses and seven e‐resource privilege groups, we were able to provide persistent URLs for databases to subject librarians, dynamic database lists based upon users’ access privileges, convenient integration with our content management system, and a simple backend management interface requiring little expertise to use. We then sought to improve the situation by organizational and license simplification before our 2014 website overhaul: We …
Levitating Libraries To The Clouds: A Strategy For Academic Libraries, Mark Dehmlow
Levitating Libraries To The Clouds: A Strategy For Academic Libraries, Mark Dehmlow
Charleston Library Conference
The University of Notre Dame’s Office of Information Technology is in the process of implementing a “Cloud First” strategy through which it intends to move 80% of its core technical infrastructure into the cloud by the end of 2017. The strategy advocates a tiered prioritization structure that recommends the hosting (SaaS) model for most services, the AWS (IaaS) model for fewer services, and finally on premises for a handful of the remaining services. As a campus technology partner, the Hesburgh Libraries has begun planning for moving many of our services and infrastructure into the cloud. This initiative represents a radical …

Three Heads Are Better Than One: Organizational Changes In Collection Management Leadership, Barbara A. Bishop, Adelia B. Grabowsky, Liza Weisbrod
Charleston Library Conference
Financial pressures, shrinking staff, shifting user expectations, and advances in format access and availability mean that organizational change seems to have become a constant in today’s academic library. The area of collection management has not been immune from change; the increasing emphasis on electronic formats, questions about access versus ownership, and the rise of open access have all required adjustment in managing collections. Even with all this change, most academic libraries have retained an organizational structure with a single person serving as a collection management coordinator or decision maker. This presentation details the shift in one academic library from a …

Improving The Eco-System Of Passwords, Weining Yang
Improving The Eco-System Of Passwords, Weining Yang
Open Access Dissertations
Password-based authentication is perhaps the most widely used method for user authentication. Passwords are both easy to understand and use, and easy to implement. With these advantages, password-based authentication is likely to stay as an important part of security in the foreseeable future. One major weakness of password-based authentication is that many users tend to choose weak passwords that are easy to guess. In this dissertation, we address the challenge and improve the eco-system of passwords in multiple aspects. Firstly, we provide methodologies that help password research. To be more specific, we propose Probability Threshold Graphs, which is superior to …
