Real Time Pricing Of Electric Power, P. O. Asare, A. W. Galli, J. S. Lee, C. A. Lozano, E. O'Neill-Carillo, R. Y. Zhao

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

'The EE 635 course in the School of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University covers the operation and control of electric power systems. The main course elements are economic dispatch, unit commitment, and generation control. Each semester, I ask the students to prepare a term paper on a topic of present interest. The student papers are on different aspects of a given subject. These papers are assembled into a technical report. This semester, the topic is "real time pricing" (RTP), an innovative pricing technique in which the price of electrical energy varies. The concept of RTP allows added "control" of the …

Estimation Of Sequential Circuit Activity Considering Spatio-Temporal Correlations, Tan Li Chou, Kaushik Roy

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

In this paper, we present accurate estimation of signal activity at the internal nodes of sequential logic circuits. The methodology is based on stochastic model of logic signals and takes spatial and temporal correlations of logic signals into con~iderai~ionG. iven the State Tranzjition Graph (STG) of a Finite State Machine (FSM), we create an Extended State Transition Graph (ESTG), where the temporal correlations of the input signals are explicitly represented. From the graph we derive the equations to calculiste exact signal probabilities and activities. However, for large circuits the method can be computationally expensive. Therefore, we propose an approximate solution …

Its Wireless Narrowband Digital Communication Architecture Design Report, Michael P. Fitz,, Jimm Grirnm, Tim Magnusen, Wen Yi Kuo, Tai Ann Chen, Jerome Gansman, Lance Bodnar

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

This report provides a detailed overview of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) narrowband digital communicator project. The project is the building and fiel~dte sting of a high performance modem architecture on the 220MHz radio channels allocatied to ITS. This architecture will provide greater than 12kbitsls transmission rate by using state of the art techniques to develop a new paradigm in bandwidth efficient land mobile communications. The main goals; are to develop a recursive model based optimum demodulator and to implement the architecture necessary for actual field tests. The modulation scheme optimizes the use of transmitter antenna diversity, forward error control …

Direction Of Arrival Estimation And Tracking Of Narrowband And Wideband Signals, A. Satish, Rangasami L. Kashyap Mar 1995

Direction Of Arrival Estimation And Tracking Of Narrowband And Wideband Signals, A. Satish, Rangasami L. Kashyap

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

The research addresses estimation and tracking of direction of arrival @OA) and associated parameters of narrowband and wideband signals impinging on a uniform linear array of sensors. The signals are modeled as sample functions of a Gaussian stochastic process. Computationally efficient, approximate maximum likelihood (ML) methods are developed for direction of arrival estimation of narrowband signals impinging on a large array of sensors. A new likelihood function is formulated based on a large M (# sensors) Taylor's series approximation of the original likelihood function. Asymptotic expressions for Cramer-Rao lower bounds on the DOA estimates are derived. From the positive definiteness …

Ultra Low Energy Computing Using Adiabatic Switching Principle, Yibin Ye, Kaushik Roy Mar 1995

Ultra Low Energy Computing Using Adiabatic Switching Principle, Yibin Ye, Kaushik Roy

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

This paper presents a new family of logic gates for ultra low energy computing using pulsed power CMOS logic. The logic gates use the principles of adiabatic switching principle and results show that in typical cases 90% of the energy can be recovered with operating frequency around IMHz. Constant capacitance condition is enforced in our designs so that signals' energy can be efficiently recycled in the chip. We also present a detailed analysis and modeling of energy dissipation. The models were experimentally validated using the circuit simulator SPICE. We also simulated a serial adder (mod 2) implemented using the reversible …

An Efficient Lower Bound Algorithm For Channel Routing, Heng Yi Chao, Mary P. Harper Jan 1995

An Efficient Lower Bound Algorithm For Channel Routing, Heng Yi Chao, Mary P. Harper

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Channel routing plays a central role in the physical design of VLSI chips. For two-layer dogleg-free channel routing, dm,, and v,,, are the two traditional lower bounds. In this paper, we present two efficient algorithms for computing a tighter lower bound for the channel routing problem. Our algorithms succe:j~fullyc ompute a lower bound of 26 for Deutsch's Difficult Example (DDE). The experiment on some large-scale randomly generated channel routing problems sholws that our lower bound algorithms are much tighter than the traditional lower bounds, and are much more efficient than Pals' algorithm [20] while obtaining similar (sometimes better) results.

A Difficult Channel Routing Generator, Heng Yi Chao, Mary P. Harper Jan 1995

A Difficult Channel Routing Generator, Heng Yi Chao, Mary P. Harper

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

For channel routing problems, Deutsch's examples were used extensively as benchmarks for testing new algorithms. However, it is also extremely important to test the performance of channel routing algorithms on a wider variety of difficult examples. In this paper, we present a random channel routing generator which can generate difficult channel routing instances of arbitrary size.

Sovereignty Conditions And Governance Modes: An Option Theory Approach, John A. Carlson Jan 1995

Sovereignty Conditions And Governance Modes: An Option Theory Approach, John A. Carlson

Purdue CIBER Working Papers

This study extends previous work which has examined governance decisions using option theory. In particular, it evaluates the contribution of option theory in both domestic and international environments. Empirical results from a multinomial logit model suggest that the influence of option value differs across segments.
