An Exploration Into Aspects Of Broken Color As Exemplified In The Works Of The Impressionists And Neo-Impressionists And The Application Of These Theories Within Painting Experiences Of The Adolescent Student, Frank Edwin Handy
Dissertations and Theses
I. Statement of Research Problem.
The research was an exploration into the broken color technique within the paintings of the Impressionists and Neo-Impressionists and the application of their techniques within the painting experiences of the adolescent student.
II. Resume of the Data.
The application of pure pigment directly, without blending, constitutes one of the major aims of the Impressionists and Neo-Impressionists. The breaking of color was done in many methods by juxtaposition of hues and values in various combinations to give the desired effect; it was applied through a wide range of brush techniques such as comma-shaped, spots, hatchings, and …

The Biological Properties Of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Bacteriophage 7v, Shirley Phillips Schnider
The Biological Properties Of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Bacteriophage 7v, Shirley Phillips Schnider
Dissertations and Theses
The present study was undertaken to define the standard conditions for growth of bacteriophage 7V on its host Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PS-7 and to determine the factors which affect the quantity and quality of plaques in the plaque count assay. Observations from the single-step growth experiment and single-burst experiment are also included.
Plaque count assays were performed under various environmental conditions. Conditions were selected as "standard" if they yielded: 1) relative maximum number of infective centers per ml of stock 7V phage, 2) clear, haloed plaques at least 2.0 mm in diameter, and 3) reproducible assays limited only by the …
Acetate As A Fine Arts Medium, Catherine Lynette Chisholm
Acetate As A Fine Arts Medium, Catherine Lynette Chisholm
Dissertations and Theses
Acetate has traditionally been used as a packaging medium. This thesis proposes that acetate can be used as a fine arts medium and can be adjusted for use in the high school art class. Acetate has the advantages for classroom use of economy in price, minimal clean-up, incorporating qualities of college and painting. Experiments were conducted on acetate to determine what changes could be made to its surface. Samples of acetate were exposed for periods of time to common house-hold liquid and solid chemicals and heat. The results were recorded and the information gained applied to creating paintings and slides. …
The City, Lee Merriwether Clark
The City, Lee Merriwether Clark
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis is composed of five oil paintings and four synthetic paintings. The works are arranged in a sequence beginning with distant over views of the city and progressing toward more immediate views. Techniques change also, from the suggestive impressionistic mode, a style I explored in my early years of art education, to a studied application of large, solid, simplified shapes of color. In my work, realism is sacrificed for a decorative arrangement of color patterns.
From this creative experience I have reached conclusions about art education and my responsibility as an art instructor. Motivation is essential when introducing all …

Judging Development And Sexual Identity In Children's Art, Susan Lathrop Dietsche
Judging Development And Sexual Identity In Children's Art, Susan Lathrop Dietsche
Dissertations and Theses
This study identified selected characteristics of sexual identity and artistic development using 481 pictures from a collection of 1,008 pictures drawn by first through fourth grade males and females. The pictures were collected by the E. C. Brown Trust Foundation to study children's concepts of reproduction.
Three general hypotheses were developed: I. Sex differences are observable in children's art; II. There are observable differences in artistic development as grade level changes; III. Observations by social workers of content in children's art are reliable. From a search of the literature, certain variables were identified, including content, use of color, and aspects …
