Success Strategies Of High Achieving Women: A Qualitative Phenomenological Investigation, Leslie Ann Evans
Theses and Dissertations
According to the latest figures from the U.S. Labor Department, 50% of all managerial posts are held by women, yet few women hold a top position in their organization. Women hold only 15.7% of all senior executive positions in Fortune 500 companies, yet traditional women's leadership styles of open communication and inclusion have been recognized as appropriate and even best practices. Women climbing the corporate ladder face myriad challenges. In addition to the obstacles they face, the very choices women …

Co-Creating A Change-Adept Organizational Culture, Janet Mccollum
Co-Creating A Change-Adept Organizational Culture, Janet Mccollum
Theses and Dissertations
Organizations are experiencing accelerated rates of change while at the same time organizational change initiatives are experiencing high rates of failure. If organizations are to be successful now and in the future, they must develop the capacity to become change-adept while maintaining business performance. This retrospective case study explores how an emergent change process influenced an organization's movement toward a change-adept culture while continuing to perform its normal operations. Using a mixed method approach, the researcher analyzed artifact qualitative data by applying Kanter's 3 dimensions of a change-adept culture--professionalism to perform, imagination to innovate, and openness to collaborate. A Grounded Theory Study Of The Leadership Characteristics Of John F. Kennedy: A Leadership Model For Educational Leaders, Kanika D. Colvin-White
Theses and Dissertations
Adverse challenges in schools that distract from student learning have necessitated effective leadership more than ever before. These challenges include, but are not limited to, budget cuts, standardized testing, poorly trained teachers, poverty, and low parent participation. Every school year academic administrators approach the aforementioned challenges with the hope of improving student achievement. However, without effective practices to foster and sustain student achievement, often, their efforts are in vain. As school districts recruit and deploy leaders, it is critical to select those who have passion to foster positive change. It is equally important to hire administrators who possess those characteristics …

The "Liability Of Newness" And Small Firm Access To Debt Capital: Is There A Link?, Susan Coleman
The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance
Literature pertaining to the “liability of newness†contends that newer firms face particular difficulties and a greater risk of failure. This article seeks to determine if “newness†is also a disadvantage in the acquisition of debt capital. Results indicate that newer firms were significantly less likely to have lines of credit and were also significantly more likely to have been turned down for their most recent loan. Even when we control for length of relationship with the primary financial services provider, personal guarantees, and collateral, younger firms were still more likely to be turned down for loans. Small firms are …

Work Energy And The Character Of Organizations: An Orgonomic Framework For Organization Development, Martin D. Goldberg

To date, the field of organization development (OD) has lacked the kind of unifying approach to theory and practice that would enable it to be considered a discipline. The present study, in conception and methodology, commences building a unified framework for OD based on the work of psychiatrist and natural scientist Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957). By conceptually merging the field of OD with the science of orgonomy, that body of knowledge based on Reich's discoveries, this project lays the foundations for a comprehensive theory that can lead to greater understanding of the nature, development, and functioning of organizations, a theory with …
