Knowledged Base Expansion As A Mean Of Improving Staff Management With Preschoolers In A Child Crisis Center, Ruth M. Wong

This practicum was designed to strengthen and expand staff members' knowledge in working with children who were from crisis families. The first goal was to provide the staff members with information about children who are in stressful situations. The second goal was for the staff members to recognize child behaviors which need special attention. The third goal was for staff members to implement appropriate play programs for their clients. And, the fourth goal was for other staff members to provide an understanding and warm atmosphere for the children.

Project Kind (Keeping Interfering Noncompliance Down) A Social Skills Training Program For Noncompliant Primary Students, Janice A. Masters

The practicum addressed the need of improving noncompliant, oppositional, defiant, under-socialized, primary aged, at risk students’ social skills. They exhibited poor study habits, academic failure, and were subsequent prime candidates of early school departures.

Project kind, a weekly social skills training program, was designed and developed by the writer to help students acquire socially acceptable behaviors. Its focus aimed at helping them acquire conflict resolution tools by developing problem-solving and decision-making skills that included anticipatory outcomes and/or consequences. Improved social adjustment embodied the concept of solving problems without physically or verbally abusing others.

Develop And Implement A Peace Education Curriculum For Elementary School Students Through A Planned Program Of Instruction, Dale L Hudson

This practicum was designed to provide K-6 grade children with peace making tools. The curriculum was piloted in a public school for one year. The goal was to teach children how to make peace with themselves and with others.

The writer used a combination of strategies in the curriculum to meet the needs of the children; provided self-esteem lessons; utilized conflict resolution techniques, including new approach to group consultation; utilized parent participation/moral education lessons designed to involve the family; and emphasized social skills training.

The results of the practicum were encouraging. Analysis of the data revealed that the children showed …

The purpose of this Major Applied Research Project (MARP) was to develop a valid and reliable test instrument and to establish a reasonable cut score for the National Fire Academy's (NFA) Chemistry of Hazardous Materials course final exam. In addition, a test technical manual was written based on the American Psychological Association's Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. 1985. DNA fingerprints of 46 human cell lines were derived using minisatellite probes for hypervariable genetic loci. The incidence of 121 HaeIII DNA fragments among 33 cell lines derived from unrelated individuals was used to estimate allelic and genotypic frequencies for each fragment and for composite individual DNA fingerprints. We present a quantitative estimate of the extent of genetic difference between individuals, an estimate based on the percentage of restriction fragments at which they differ. The average percent difference (APD) among pairwise combinations from the population of 33 unrelated cell lines was 76.9%, compared with the APD in band sharing …

For over 13 years, officials at Arizona State University (ASU) have called for centralization of campus environmental health and safety (EHS) practices currently handled by five separate departments. As a step toward answering this call, this study involved a two-stage project.

The first stage collected information on centralized programs at different colleges and universities to develop a program model for use at ASU. The second stage evaluated the developed mode. Marine Flora And Fauna Of The Northeastern United States Echinodermata: Crinoidea, Charles G. Messing, John H. Dearborn

The crinoid fauna of the continental margin (0-1500m) of northeastern North America (Georgia to Canada) includes 14 species in 13 genera and 5 families. We introduce the external morphology and natural history of crinoids and include a glossary of terms, an illustrated key to local taxa, annotated systematic list, and an index. The fauna includes 2 species found no further south than New England and 8 that occur no further north than the Carolinas and Blake Plateau. Comactinia meridionalis (Agassiz) is the only species commonly found in shallow water (<50 m). No taxa are endemic to the area.

Sequence comparisons of seven distinct MHC class I cDNA clones revealed that feline class I molecules have a remarkable similarity to human HLA genes in their organization of functional domains as well as in the nonrandom partitioning of genetic variability according to the functional constraints ascribed to different regions of the MHC molecule. The distribution of the pattern of sequence polymorphism in the cat as compared with genetic diversity of human and mouse class I genes provides evidence for four coordinate factors that contribute to the origin and sustenance of abundant allele diversity that characterizes the MHC in the species. …

Measurements made in the Equatorial Atlantic during the 35th cruise of the R/V Akademic Vernadsky using a free-rising profiler and drifters revealed a near-surface slippery layer of the ocean arising due to daytime solar heating. The solar heating warms and stabilizes the surface layer of the ocean. This suppresses turbulent exchange and limits the penetration depth of the wind-induced turbulent mixing. The heated near-surface layer is then slipping over the underlying water practically without friction. The extent and progression of exposure to feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) virus in the cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, was monitored by a world-wide serological survey with indirect fluorescent antibody titers to coronavirus. The indirect fluorescent antibody assay was validated by Western blots, which showed that all indirect fluorescent antibody-positive cheetah sera detected both domestic cat and cheetah coronavirus structural proteins. There was a poor correlation between indirect fluorescent antibody results and the presence of coronaviruslike particles in cheetah feces, suggesting that electron microscopic detection of shed particles may not be an easily interpreted diagnostic parameter for FIP disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the medication administration proficiency of newly hired nurses at a large Department of Veterans Affairs (D.V.A.) Medical Center located in Bay Pines, Florida and to design a remedial education program in medication administration which would effectively meet specific deficiencies found in this population. Legal and professional mandates require proficiency in this domain of practice, yet nursing literature and recent experience by D.V.A. nurse educators have raised serious concern regarding the adequacy of nurses' proficiency in this area.

Biozonation Of Deep-Water Lithoherms And Associated Hardgrounds In The Northeastern Straits Of Florida, Charles G. Messing, A. Conrad Neumann, Judith C. Lang

Elongated carbonate mounds ("lithoherms") oriented parallel to prevailing northerly bottom currents at moderate depths (500-700 m) along the western margin of the Little Bahama Bank exhibit a consistent faunal zonation characterized by attached, suspension-feeding invertebrates. The four most abundant macroepibenthic groups (alcyonarians, crinoids, sponges and stylasterid hydrocorals) dominate all hard substrates examined except upcurrent ends and crests of lithoherms. We recognize three faunal zones on these mounds: a Coral Zone (Lophelia prolifera) restricted to the upcurrent end; a Zoanthid Zone (?Gerardia sp.) along upcurrent crests, and a Crinoid/Alcyonarian Zone along lithoherm flanks and downstream crests.
