Producing And Implementing A Video-Recorded Word Processing Tutorial In A Community College Closed-Entry, Open-Exit Microcomputer Lab, Patricia A. Pelachik
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The study revolved around word processing students at a community college and the elective use of a tutorial video while working independently in a lab. The study recorded the frequency of unit use of the tutorial and the most frequent purpose of use. Students viewed the tutorial as a preview, a source of technical assistance for problem solution, or as a review when text assignments had been completed. Student comments at the close of the study measure the availability of technical assistance while working in the lab compared to a previous class not having access to tutorial video assistance. The …

Human light chain genes are used in a κ before λ order. Accompanying this hierarchy is the rearrangement of a κ-deleting element (Kde) which eliminates the kappa locus before λ gene rearrangement. In approximately 60% of rearrangements the Kde recombines at a conserved heptamer within the Jκ-Cκ intron. We demonstrated that aberrant V/J rearrangements possessing apparent "N" nucleotides existed 5' to the Jκ-Kde rearrangements. This suggests that the Kde may selectively eliminate nonfunctional V/J alleles. A κ-producing cell that displayed the unusual finding of λ gene rearrangement demonstrated a rearranged Kde. This rearrangement was a …
The Development, Implementation, And Evaluation Of A Student Guide Incorporating A Conceptual Framework In A Nursing Program Curriculum., Nancy Cowan
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The conceptual framework used by Chabot College's Associate. Degree nursing program was criticized by the State Board of Nursing and by the nursing students as lacking in clarity and consistency in faculty implementation. The faculty subsequently discussed the need to formalized the conceptual framework and its implementation into a written guide book for use by both faculty and students. The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate a guide book that would incorporate the conceptual framework of the nursing program's curriculum.
The guide book was developed by the nursing faculty. Plans for its distribution to faculty and …

The Physiological Implications Of Bleaching Of Corals Off Southeast Florida, C. J. Reese, G. S. Kleppel, Richard E. Dodge
The Physiological Implications Of Bleaching Of Corals Off Southeast Florida, C. J. Reese, G. S. Kleppel, Richard E. Dodge
Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Proceedings, Presentations, Speeches, Lectures
As part of an ongoing study of coral bleaching, observations were made of corals on reefs (ca. 8m) off John U. Lloyd Beach, Dania, FL, in December, 1987. Bleaching was evident in approximately 50% of Montastrea annularis, the dominant scleractinian coral species. Quantitative pigment measurements by HPLC show that bleached corals contained

Decline Of Coral Growth Rates At Negril, Jamaica, T. J. Goreau, Richard E. Dodge, P. D. Goreau
Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Proceedings, Presentations, Speeches, Lectures
Montastrea annularis heads were collected near Negril, Jamaica, along transects from open, normal reef conditions into the mouths of rivers draining the Negril Morass. Corals subject to turbidity (particulate peat and dissolved humic compouonds near rivers, re-suspended reef sediments away from them) were growing more slowly than those in normal circumstances. Surprisingly, corals growing fastest were slowing the most, and the slowest growers increasing growth rate. Linear regression analysis of growth trends over the past two decades revealed stable limit-cycle behavior: change of growth was inversely proportional to growth rate, with a very significant correlation coefficient of -0.92. We suggest …
An Ecological Perspective On Deafness, Michael A. Harvey, Barry Dym
An Ecological Perspective On Deafness, Michael A. Harvey, Barry Dym
JADARA
This paper offers an ecological view of deaf ness to assist rehabilitation counselors and clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of problems that deaf persons may present. An ecological perspective identifies the many hierarchically arranged, biopsychhsocial levels which influence the development of deaf persons. It further identifies the sequences of interaction (the exchanges of information) which occur both within and between levels, and which include the creation, labeling and reifying of symptoms. The organization of ecological fields is described by a cybernetic model from the discipline of family therapy. A detailed case example is presented.

Aids, Race, And The Law: The Social Construction Of Disease, Norman Nickens
Nova Law Review
The existing literature on AIDS and the law has been largely silent on the issue of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in minority communities, despite the disproportionate impact of AIDS upon these communities, and despite the fact that the "literature on behavior change suggests the importance of considering sociocultural and psychological characteristics of a population in the promotion of certain health behaviors and practices."

Resource Sharing: A Study Of Florida's Shared-Used Library Collections, Susan Anderson
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Designed to provide library service for two or more different groups of library users in one library facility, shared-use or joint-use libraries are a unique aspect of library resources sharing. Thirteen examples of shared-use library collections in shared or joint-use library facilities in Florida were examined in this investigation. Special focus was placed on the perceptions of librarians who work in these libraries in order to determine how well the libraries meet the information needs on users and how successful the libraries are in conserving financial resources as a result of combined collections. A design of a special resource collections …

No Tears For Corey Greer: A Review Of Foster Care In Florida. Is It Time To Ask The Court For Relief?, Marcia Beach
Nova Law Review
Many of Florida's children are dying in foster care homes - and in their own homes - due to the failure of the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services (HRS) to exercise a reasonable degree of care in meeting its statutorily mandated duty to protect them from abuse and neglect.
