Use Of Selected Elements Of Patient Perception Of Care In The Evaluation Of Clinical Training, Patrick J. Goff
Use Of Selected Elements Of Patient Perception Of Care In The Evaluation Of Clinical Training, Patrick J. Goff
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The purpose of this study was to develop a role for the patient perception of care provided by the student doctor within the educational program at Palmer College. The Council on Chiropractic Education, the federally recognized accrediting body of the profession, has indicated that the perception of care by the patient receiving that care should be an important outcome measure of the education process in the colleges. At the time of this study the patient's perception of care was not used in evaluating clinical competence. A review of the literature resulted in the selection of the Patient-Doctor Interaction Scale (PDIS) …
An Investigation To Determine The Prevalence Of Starvation Dieting Among High School Students As Affected By Gender, Race And Socioeconomic Status, Michal Lee Erickson
An Investigation To Determine The Prevalence Of Starvation Dieting Among High School Students As Affected By Gender, Race And Socioeconomic Status, Michal Lee Erickson
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Sociologists report that twenty million Americans are on a 'serious' diet. There has never been a period when such large numbers of people have spent so much time, money, and emotional energy on their weight. The message conveyed by society, the Fashion and movie industries, modern medicine and the media is quite clear - thin is in! The problem lies in the fact that the message does not distinguish between realistic standards and unattainable ideals, especially for women.
Experts on eating disorders report that ninety percent of those suffering from anorexia nervosa (self-starvation) are females, ages 13-21, from white ethnic …

The Development Of An Individualized Instructional System For Health Care Ethics, Charles Carroll
The Development Of An Individualized Instructional System For Health Care Ethics, Charles Carroll
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Daytona Beach Community College offers training in eight allied health areas including dental assisting, surgical technology, respiratory care, medical record technology, health unit coordinator, radiology technology, human services and child development. Students enrolled in these programs currently do not receive any formal course work or training in the area of ethics. A survey of the allied health instructors indicated three reasons for the lack of instruction in the area of ethics: (1) lack of formal training in the area by the instructors, (2) lack of time to thoroughly research the topic, (3) a lack of time in the program's curriculum …
The Development Of A Recruitment Program For Flight Faculty At Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, John E. Phipps
The Development Of A Recruitment Program For Flight Faculty At Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, John E. Phipps
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is a private institution offering graduate and undergraduate degree programs in aviation related fields. Members of the staff of Embry-Riddle's Flight Technology Department were concerned about the department's continued ability to attract sufficient quantities of qualified applicants for flight industry faculty positions given current trends in the industry. In response to those concerns a comprehensive plan for the recruitment of flight faculty was developed to meet both present and future departmental needs.
The research question investigated as a part of this developmental project was what steps need to be taken to ensure that Embry-Riddle is able to …

Environmental Health And Safety At Arizona State University At Tempe: Development Of A Model Program., Charles R. Campbell
Environmental Health And Safety At Arizona State University At Tempe: Development Of A Model Program., Charles R. Campbell
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
For over 13 years, officials at Arizona State University (ASU) have called for centralization of campus environmental health and safety (EHS) practices currently handled by five separate departments. As a step toward answering this call, this study involved a two-stage project.
The first stage collected information on centralized programs at different colleges and universities to develop a program model for use at ASU. The second stage evaluated the developed mode. Data were collected on the model's appropriateness with respect to eight major areas of environmental health and safety concerns from a sample of ASU officials and personnel working for each …

Application Of Dna Fingerprints For Cell-Line Individualization, Dennis A. Gilbert, Yvonne Reid, Mitchell H. Gail, David Pee, Christine White, Robert J. Hay, Stephen J. O'Brien
Biology Faculty Articles
DNA fingerprints of 46 human cell lines were derived using minisatellite probes for hypervariable genetic loci. The incidence of 121 HaeIII DNA fragments among 33 cell lines derived from unrelated individuals was used to estimate allelic and genotypic frequencies for each fragment and for composite individual DNA fingerprints. We present a quantitative estimate of the extent of genetic difference between individuals, an estimate based on the percentage of restriction fragments at which they differ. The average percent difference (APD) among pairwise combinations from the population of 33 unrelated cell lines was 76.9%, compared with the APD in band sharing …

Enrolling The International English As A Second Language Student In Nova University’S Programs For Higher Education: Implications For The Future, Daniel Lea Carlson
Enrolling The International English As A Second Language Student In Nova University’S Programs For Higher Education: Implications For The Future, Daniel Lea Carlson
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Since 1972, Programs for Higher Education at Nova University has offered a field-based Ed.D. program to clusters of students in various locations around the United States. In 1985, a regional cluster was designed to meet the needs of interested prospective students who were not located close enough to the existing local clusters to participate in the program. As the regional cluster grew, it was joined by a number of international students who live in other countries and for whom English is a second or third language.
Enrollment of international ESL students raised questions regarding the level of English proficiency needed …
An Investigation Into The Feasibility Of Incorporating Additional Specializations And Concentrations Into The Programs For Higher Education Curriculum Structure, William M. Kaye
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The last major curriculum change in the Programs for Higher Education (PHE) took place seven years ago when the specialization courses were incorporated into the summer institute. Since that time there have been significant changes in the higher education environment which have impacted on the vitality and marketability of the PHE programs. Changes in PHE student demographics have also contributed to an increasing concern about the lack of variety of courses in the academic program, as well issues such as the viability of introducing more specific fields of specialization and/or concentrations to the programs, the potential need for a more …
Black Students’ Attitudes And Perceptions Of Their Educational Experiences With Implications For Persistence And Goal Completion, Carol A. Ferguson
Black Students’ Attitudes And Perceptions Of Their Educational Experiences With Implications For Persistence And Goal Completion, Carol A. Ferguson
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Southwest Missouri State University is a predominately white institution which historically has admitted and retained very few black students. Because of several special programs instituted by the university president, the number of black students enrolled at SMSU is increasing. The campus has a student population of more than 19,000 with the black students making up 1.5 percent of this number. With more and more concern being directed at student retention the issue that attrition has been a problem with all college students including the black students is now being addressed on campus.
The study was designed to examine the students’ …
An Analysis Of The Relationships Between Selected Variables Affecting The School Nurses’ Role In Working With Students With Handicaps, Gail Synoground
An Analysis Of The Relationships Between Selected Variables Affecting The School Nurses’ Role In Working With Students With Handicaps, Gail Synoground
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The purpose of this descriptive correlational study was to analyze relationships between selected role theory variables and the school nurse's role in working with students with handicapping conditions. Public Law 94-142 mandates that all students be educated in the least restrictive environment possible, resulting in enrollment of students with disabilities and other health impairments that often require special health services. This mandate has necessitated that school nurses re-evaluate their roles in assisting handicapped students to receive an appropriate education. Further, there is some question as to the educational needs and preparation of school nurses to fulfill their responsibilities in the …
