This practicum was designed to increase nurturing relationships between primary caregivers and infants prenatally exposed to cocaine. Goals were to increase the general emotional well-being of the caregivers within the family unit, to increase the interpersonal competence of the caregivers’ use of formal social support systems availed to them.
Through individual and group training sessions, ten caregivers were actively involved in monthly home and group meetings. The solution strategy was designed to include parent educators who guided caregivers through pertinent stress relieving coping skills derived from strategies and techniques of appropriate parent training during the 1-hour monthly home visitations. This report explains a program for decreasing obesity of mentally retarded adults served by a mental retardation service center in a southern rural community. Problems originally noticed included enormous body weights of clients, obesity-related diseases, a lack of exercise programming, and failure to participate in Special Olympics.
An analysis of the clients' Individual Physical Data Bases revealed body weights 20X or more over the average for a person's age, build, sex, and height. According to the client medical reports, 50% of the obese clients suffered from medical disorders created by their obesity. A review of the Individual Service Plans indicated …

This practicum aimed to improve student teachers' strategies for asking a variety of questions through the use of video evaluations. The three corollary aims were to improve student teachers strategies for asking both low and high level questions, to improve student teachers' techniques when asking questions, and to improve student teachers' abilities to ask questions. which would encourage higher level thinking.

This practicum was originally designed to provide teachers with a means of enhancing the self-esteem of learning disabled (LD) students by using them as cross-age tutors in a Kindergarten class. It was assumed that, by engaging them to help younger students, LD tutors would experience a feeling of accomplishment and self-worth, and therefore develop a sense of being capable, useful, and appreciated. It was further assumed that this more positive self-esteem would lead to a healthier social, emotional and intellectual self-perception and behavior. The problem for this eight-month practicum was that there were 30 intermediate students who had adverse feelings for writing. The problem was documented as a result of responses to a writing survey by Donato (1990). The survey was administered to a group of 71 students. The highest possible score was 30. Ten students from each grade level (third, fourth and fifth) with the lowest scores completed the practicum activities.

This practicum was proposed to improve the motivational level of disaffected students by utilizing alternative learning strategies designed to match teaching style to the individual learning style of the student. The primary goal was to elevate the test scores on periodic, cumulative, and standardized tests in order to bring students to grade level. The secondary goal was to adjust the curriculum to meet the learning style of the slow learner. Subgoals included decreasing absenteeism, detention, and suspension. This report describes the development of a pilot elementary school physical fitness program using six fourth graders as the targeted students. Extensive analysis of available programs was undertaken to determine the appropriate physical fitness program to use for the pilot program. The program selected was the Physical Best, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERO). Surveys were used to determine student perceptions, student knowledge, and teacher observations/perceptions of their students. The results of the surveys agreed with research and resulted in the 4th grade (147 students) being chosen to start the program.

The aim or this practicum was to integrate academic. Specifically language arts, and vocational education by: I) collaborating with vocational teachers; 2) developing cross-curricula activities; 3) reinforcing and evaluating communication skills in the vocational areas; 4) exploring student career direction; 5) infusing occupational relevancy into academics; 6) facilitating cooperative learning and relevant problem-solving; 7) fostering computer technology and literacy; and 8) orienting staff, counselors and administrators. The primary goal was to create a dynamic, functional facility with an interdisciplinary library skills program for students in kindergarten to grade eight in a private Jewish day school. Additional goals were to incorporate volunteer service in order to organize the library collection.

This practicum focused upon the design and implementation of a body Image improvement program for severely emotionally disturbed (SED), latency-aged girls. Seven latency-aged girls In a self-contained, SED program participated one time per week In Individual art therapy and group sessions. The program Incorporated therapeutic art activities with verbal Interactions and utilized human growth films, cooperative learning techniques, and child care personnel from outside agencies.

This practicum was designed in response to the increasing numbers of student behavior problems and subsequent suspension of mildly handicapped and at-risk middle school students. The goal was to implement a group intervention program teaching cognitive behavioral strategics to improve interpersonal problem-solving skills, as well as provide alternatives to current school disciplinary procedures.

This practicum endeavored to improve science laboratory instruction for elementary students. The major goal of the practicum was to facilitate laboratory use so that teachers would incorporate laboratory experiences as an integral component in science instruction.
To improve the instructional significance of the science laboratory, the writer developed and initiated a MAPS change process model (Motivation, Alternatives, Planning, Sharing) in collaboration with representative teachers. The benefits of the inland retention of freshwaters in South Florida are indisputable. During periods of prolonged drought, the maintenance of a higher groundwater table, which benefits terrestrial vegetation and retards saltwater intrusion, is clearly preferable to the alternative of discharging up to 400,000 gallons of freshwater per day into the ocean.
Therefore, the only objections to the retention of treated sewage effluent in an inland lime-rock pit, with the physical, chemical and biologic characteristics of our pits, would have to do with possible detrimental effects to public health or the environment. The purpose of this Major Applied Research Project was to investigate the weaknesses in post-secondary mathematics problem solving and to develop an instructional design that would help mathematics majors become better problem solvers. A case study was conducted including an extensive literary search to determine which strategies were needed to enhance problem solving. Three basic research restrictions were examined: 1.
