Growth And Survivorship Of Meandrina Meandrites And Montastrea Cavernosa Transplants To An Artificial Reef Environment, And The Effectiveness Of Plugging Core Holes In Transplant Donor Colonies, Elizabeth Glynn Fahy
HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations
The growth and survivorship of two species of scleractinian coral transplants, Meandrina meandrites and Montastrea cavernosa, were investigated. Identically sized replicate transplants were obtained from the second reef, off Dania Beach, using a hydraulic drill fitted with a 4” core barrel. The transplants were fixed to Reef Ball™ substrates using an adhesive marine epoxy. Drill holes in the donor corals (core holes) were filled with concrete plugs to prevent the detrimental effects of bioeroders. Control corals, of comparable size to both the donor colonies and the transplant corals, were selected for comparison. The transplant corals, donor corals, and controls …

Perceived Motivational Factors Among Allied Health Managers And Subordinates, Sandra Barker Dunbar
Perceived Motivational Factors Among Allied Health Managers And Subordinates, Sandra Barker Dunbar
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
This exploratory study sought to assess the differences in perceptions among allied health managers and subordinates regarding motivation in the workplace due to a paucity of literature in this area. With an increased demand for higher productivity, an ever-changing health care system and managed care restrictions, it is also important to understand what may motivate individuals who are functioning within different work environments than in the past. The hygiene and motivator factors from Herzberg’s two factor theory created the independent variables which overlap with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs descriptions. These included Basic (job security, salary etc.), Safety (work conditions, pension), …
A Comparative Analysis Of Design Techniques For The Construction Of An Expert System For Aircraft Engine Diagnostics, Mitch Raton
A Comparative Analysis Of Design Techniques For The Construction Of An Expert System For Aircraft Engine Diagnostics, Mitch Raton
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
The lack of knowledge and understanding of diagnostic aircraft propulsion systems causes inappropriate problem diagnosis. Because of increasing complexity, technicians are incapable of performing the necessary tasks in accordance with standard regulations. More sophisticated systems are needed today to "assist" the user technician in decision-making. This work provided a study of rule-based and frame-based expert system techniques to determine the most appropriate solution in the domain of complex diagnosis using large amounts of deterministic data. The study produced a framework that facilitates the diagnosing of faults on aircraft engines, thus reducing the burden on the aircraft mechanic regardless of experience …
An Integrated, Secured, Open-Source Medical Prototype For Collaborative Patient Management On The Internet, Joseph Dabre Ramsey
An Integrated, Secured, Open-Source Medical Prototype For Collaborative Patient Management On The Internet, Joseph Dabre Ramsey
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Conventional approaches to building critical and secured systems are based on the use of commercial tools for development and maintenance. Changes in the marketplace and the acceptance of the open-source model have brought this assumption into question. The combination of open-source's rapid rise and the introduction of pervasive computing has made the computing industry more receptive to open-source tools and products. The open-source model allows systems to be controlled by a single individual or a small developer group that reduces dependence on individual experts. The availability of free system source codes, an expanding commercial support market, and increasing global collaborative …

Improving The Behavior Of Primary School Students With Involvement From Students, Staff, And Families, Judith Spieth Justice
Improving The Behavior Of Primary School Students With Involvement From Students, Staff, And Families, Judith Spieth Justice
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
This applied dissertation was designed to provide better behavior from primary-aged (grades kindergarten through grade 3) school students. Primary aged students were exhibiting disruptive behavior, and this research delved into the evidence, causes, and solutions for disruptive behavior. Disruptive behavior interrupted the learning environment and threatened the physical and emotional safety of the school. Students who behaved inappropriately often perceived themselves as "troublemakers" and established a pattern early in school years. Because it is easier to eliminate problem behaviors before they become a pattern, the writer sought to break the cycle of disruptive behavior in primary ages.
The writer developed …

School Resource Officers: Effective Or Ineffective In Reducing Discipline Referrals And Increasing School Safety?, Cornelius B. Leach
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
This report describes a program for reducing the number of discipline referrals for fighting, threats, and possession or use of weapons. The total school population was involved in this intervention program. All middle schools in the school district had 2 School Resource Officers (SRO) on campus to produce a safer school environment. The problem with the discipline referrals was documented through the archival data of discipline referrals from the 2000-2001 school year.
An analysis of probable cause data gathered indicated that low or moderate supervision, lack of parental involvement, and lack of knowledge about writing discipline referrals were factors leading …

Developing And Using A Welfare Reform Model Of Social Work To Increase The Role Of Social Workers In Assisting Welfare Customers To Self-Sufficiency Through Employment, Jessie Jordan-Parker
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
This applied dissertation was designed to increase and enhance the role of the Welfare Social Workers in providing case management services to Welfare customers. Welfare Reform (WR) Social Work positions were being eliminated because some thought that traditional social work models could not be adapted to the requirements of employment centered WR programs. This was thought because no research had been carried out and no data was available to indicate the efficacy of social workers or social work models in assisting those welfare customers to self-sufficiency through employment.
The writer developed a WR model of social work intervention. The model …
