Small Town Urban Revitalization: The Effect Of Pullman Square On Downtown Huntington, West Virginia, Amy R. Blankenship

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

After many years of being the center of shopping, business and entertainment, the downtown began to decline nationally. This decline began after the end of WWII and ran concurrent to the beginning of suburbanization and the emergence of large, indoor shopping malls. Many cities began to realize the importance of a healthy downtown and implemented strategies to revitalize their downtown. This thesis focuses on the emergence of Pullman Square in Huntington, WV, its effect on the downtown, and how it has spawned other retail development and revitalization strategies throughout the city center.

Suicidal Terrorism : A Dying Strategy, Michael Jessee Adkins

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

This study identifies a causal model for suicidal terrorism consisting of three primary blocks of factors. First, terrorist organizations must desire to expel a social entity from a geographic area and typically operate with a perception of religious asymmetry. Third, terrorist organizations must adopt an organizational philosophy that indicates they are capable of achieving victory. This study analyzes the characteristics of several high-profile terrorist organizations to demonstrate the noted factors are …

The Selective Capacity Of The Likely To Become A Public Charge Clause In The Visa Issuance Process, Camila Morsch

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

This paper provides an empirical examination of how the Likely to Become a Public Charge Clause (LPCC) is used in the American visa issuance process. This work covers literature on the logic and usage of the LPCC since the late 1800’s to present, suggesting administrative use of the LPCC expands according to different circumstances beyond its intended purposes. The quantitative portion of this work evaluates the use of the LPCC (for both immigrant applicant and nonimmigrant applicant populations) from 1966 to 2002 to ascertain the effect of economic and security conditions on the use of the LPCC.
