Racial Differences In Perception Of Breast Cancer Risk In Rural Southeast Georgia, Stuart H. Tedders, Anthony V. Parrillo, Karl E. Peace, Jannell R. Knight

Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association

A university-public health collaborative was formed to more fully understand cancer risk among rural women in Georgia. Objectives: This study sought to gain an understanding of racial differences with regard to behavioral risk, perception of breast cancer risk, and perception of barriers to screening. Design: Differences in subjects’ risk and risk perception were assessed by creating, piloting, and administering a written survey at local health departments. Sample: A purposive sample of females enrolled in breast and cervical cancer screening programs in four rural counties in southeast Georgia (n = 147) were surveyed. Logistics & Supply Chain Management: Faculty Presentations (1998-2020)

In recent years, many academic institutions have implemented more stringent academic qualification standards by increasing research requirements for faculty. This paper analyzes the impact of changing research requirements in terms of faculty research output. We model the academic research pipeline including review and revision processes as a queue network and study the stationary behavior of the research pipeline. Both a theoretical model of the publication process and a simulation showing numerous combinations of submission strategies and publication requirements are presented. Care Quality For Adult Medicaid Beneficiaries With Type 2 Diabetes Varies By Primary Care Provider Subspecialty, Robert M. Mayberry, Rita Finley, Ernest Alema-Mensah, Trobiand A. Davis

Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association

The Georgia Medicaid primary care case management (PCCM) program, phased in over the 1994-1997 period, has now given way to a capitated managed care model of regional care management organizations (CMOs). Using Georgia Medicaid eligibility and provider claim data for 1996-1998, this study investigated diabetes care quality and whether it varied by primary care provider subspecialty in a longitudinal follow-up of newly diagnosed adults with type 2 diabetes during the early phase of the PCCM program. Results indicated that the quality of diabetes care was suboptimal and varied significantly by PCP subspecialty, with patients seen by generalists least likely to …

The Determination Of Lung Function Using Impulse Oscillometry And Spirometry, MéCole Vordalander Ingram

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

This study was designed to establish normative data for individuals 18-22 years old using oscillometry by comparing the values to spirometry. Oscillometry is a less invasive procedure for respiratory testing than spirometry testing. One hundred and forty-two participants completed self-assessment questionnaires, along with body composition measurements and at least three trials each of oscillometry and spirometry testing. The results of the study conclude that no normative data could be established in this study over all resistance (R) and reactance (X) frequencies for males and females. Sexually Dimorphic Developmental Patterns Of Chemosensory Behaviors In African Elephants (Loxodonta Africana), Dhaval Kartik Vyas

Like many polygynous mammals, African elephants exhibit social dimorphism in which females reside in matriarchal groups while males often travel alone or in bachelor groups. Males search for receptive mates who may advertise their condition through chemical and other signals. The difference in adult lifestyles suggests that the developmental pattern of communication for the two sexes should diverge when the social environment and reproductive opportunities of males and females begin to differ. In this study, I examined the differences between the sexes and across four age classes (calves, juveniles, subadults and adults) in the performance of chemosensory behaviors. African elephants …
