Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta Caretta) Nesting On A Georgia Barrier Island: Effects Of Nest Relocation, Jacob Anthony Tuttle

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of nest relocation on nest parameters and embryonic development. The nesting biology of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) was studied on Blackbeard Island in 2005 and 2006, during the nesting season. Research nests were randomly assigned one of two treatments (in-situ or relocated). In-situ nests (n=35) were left in the original location, while relocated nests (n=34) were moved above the spring high-tide line and into areas that were considered to be of favorable nesting conditions. The concept of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) was developed over 15 years ago. Because scholarly recognition comes from the discipline, the researchers determined to find out how a range of disciplines deal with the SoTL. In that time, how has the SoTL been integrated into and used by the various academic disciplines? What publication outlets are available to professors within each of the disciplines to present and publish on the SoTL? This survey review of current associations, conferences, and journals examines the SoTL in 20 different disciplines as demonstrated by scholarly production within these disciplines. Host Attraction And Host Selection In The Family Corethrellidae (Wood And Borkent) (Diptera), Jeremy Vann Camp

Flies in the family Corethrellidae (Diptera) are known to be attracted to the mating calls of tree frogs. Field studies using the calls of nine species of frogs native to the SE USA confirmed prior findings that the call of the barking tree frog, Hyla gratiosa LeConte, is the most attractive call to sympatric Corethrella (Coquillett) from Georgia. A synthetic barking tree frog call was created using computer software. It was found that the synthetic call was more attractive than the real call of the barking tree frog. One person in every thousand develops Parkinson's Disease. There is no known cause, no known cure and no existing definitive test for Parkinson's Disease. Qualified neurologists and movement disorders specialists make a diagnosis on the basis of their knowledgeable observations. If a cause is found, a cure will follow. The Savannah Parkinson Support Group has existed for fifteen years. It has a membership of 250 people with Parkinson's Disease, their relatives and caregivers. This study examines the implementation of the Accelerated Schools Project at one school in South Georgia. The Accelerated Schools Project is a comprehensive school renewal effort developed by Henry Levin which attempts to change both the school decision making process and the instructional techniques used in the classroom. The unique governance structure, which attempts to involve all stakeholders in decisions that impact the institution, and the student-centered instructional technique are combined in an effort to instigate school renewal. Bright plumage coloration in most birds is thought to be a product of sexual selection. Brighter, more-ornamented males are preferred by females because their plumage conveys information regarding the quality of the individual. One measure of male quality is willingness to invest in offspring. In birds, investment is usually measured as the rate at which nestlings are provisioned. However there are other forms of parental investment. The purpose of this study is to quantify the relationship between two measures of parental investment and their association with structural plumage coloration in male Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis). This theoretical inquiry utilizes the philosophy of Jacques Derrida and deconstruction to begin a discourse on the disconnect between student learning and nursing education within the academy. Mosquitos Associated With Equine West Nile Virus Cases In Southeastern Georgia, Calvin William Hancock

Mosquito populations associated with equine and avian cases of West Nile Virus infections in five counties in southeastern Georgia were sampled in 2003 and 2004. More than 10,500 mosquitoes representing over 20 species were collected at 25 sites using light traps and vacuum aspirators. Of these, 8,500 mosquitoes were tested for the presence of West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus, and Saint Louis Encephalitis Virus in 411 separate pools of 1-50 mosquitoes. No virus positive mosquitoes were detected. Blood meals from 377 engorged specimens caught at these sites were identified as of mammalian, avian, or reptile/amphibian origin using serological …
