The Pitfalls Of Donor-Centricity: Mission-Based Fundraising For A New Era, Natalie Giannos
The Pitfalls Of Donor-Centricity: Mission-Based Fundraising For A New Era, Natalie Giannos
Historic Preservation Final Projects
As the role of arts nonprofits shift to increasingly serve communities, away from the Wunderkammer model of decades past, fundraising has remained the same. The time is now to assess the implications of the sector’s current model, in which fundraisers rely on a small number of big donations to keep organizations afloat. This paper considers the current state of fundraising for American arts nonprofits: outdated, exclusionary, and above all else, limitative. It offers three case studies that illustrate the ramifications of the major gifts model. Finally, it proposes some solutions, unravelling the commonly held belief that organizations today have little …

Student Works In The Institutional Repository: An Analysis Of Interest And Impact, Julia K. Nims
Student Works In The Institutional Repository: An Analysis Of Interest And Impact, Julia K. Nims
Faculty Scholarship 2022
Eastern Michigan University has highlighted student work in its institutional repository since 2009. Starting with graduate theses and dissertations, the repository’s student presence has grown with the addition of other works, such as honors theses, student journals, and capstone projects. Including student work in our repository fulfills many goals. It allows EMU to showcase and preserve the excellent scholarship produced by our students, and then make these works available to users around the world. These collections serve as recruitment tools to demonstrate what prospective students may achieve through the opportunities EMU offers. The repository provides our students with a space …

Historic Preservation Final Projects
This document covers the textual portions of the National Register Preliminary Questionnaire (NRPQ, herein), a statement of significance and a statement of property integrity, for the Washington Square Branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library property at 1244 Portage Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Washington Square branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library, designed by Kalamazoo architect M.C.J Billingham and built by the Kalamazoo based O.F. Miller contracting company is notable for aligning with the early twentieth century American trend of women and women’s social groups advocating for the establishment and erection of libraries. Additionally, the Library is considered a fine example …

A Métis Wife's Tale: Race, Womanhood, And Adaptation To Settler Colonialism In The Diaries Of Mary Hobart Williams, Rachael Schnurr
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
As the War of 1812 drew to a stalemate, the American government began the process of state formation in the "Old Northwest," which put political, economic, and cultural pressures on the indigenous population. Among the Anishinaabeg, Menominee, Ho-Chunk, and other Native inhabitants, however, were fifty-three communities of mixed ancestry produced by the fur trade: the Great Lakes Metis. This project looks at the ways the Metis of Green Bay adapted to the pressures of settler colonialism through the nineteenth century. In particular, it uses the diaries of a French-Menominee woman named Mary Hobart Williams to identify examples of "survivance, "or …
Educators' Perceptions Of Using Twitter As A Professional Development Tool, Bradford Lusk
Educators' Perceptions Of Using Twitter As A Professional Development Tool, Bradford Lusk
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Educator professional development has the power to affect day-to-day educational practice. Every school district wrestles with planning professional development for improving educators professionally to better student achievement. With the largest portion of the budget being spent on personnel, developing educators and staff professionally should be a school district’s main priority. Taking into consideration the nature of adult learners and changes in educational and technological resources, professional development is ripe for a change. The purpose of this case study was to explore educators’ perceptions of using Twitter to receive and engage in professional development over a five-week period. Interviews of the …

Southeast Michigan Wastewater Treatment Plants As Potential Sources Of Microplastic Pollution In The Rouge River And Huron River, Jennifer Troost
Southeast Michigan Wastewater Treatment Plants As Potential Sources Of Microplastic Pollution In The Rouge River And Huron River, Jennifer Troost
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Plastic pollution is a global issue affecting the health and stability of freshwater and marine environments. Microplastics can be introduced into waterways from a variety of sources, such as agricultural runoff, anthropogenic litter, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). To determine whether WWTPs are a source of microplastics to the Lower Rouge and Huron Rivers, we measured microplastic load upstream and downstream of two Southeast Michigan wastewater treatment plants: the Ann Arbor Wastewater Treatment Plant and Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority (YCUA). Results from this study indicated that YCUA, which discharges into a small stream with limited watershed inputs, is a significant …
A Heuristic Model Of Organizational Boundaries As Contesting Spaces Of Betweenness In International Management, Diana J. Wong-Mingji
A Heuristic Model Of Organizational Boundaries As Contesting Spaces Of Betweenness In International Management, Diana J. Wong-Mingji
Global Advances in Business Communication
This paper examines organizational boundaries as contesting spaces of in betweenness that requires constant negotiations of multi-level cross-cultural differences. Traditionally, boundaries are viewed as relatively static imaginary lines that facilitate flow of information and resource exchanges between organizations and their environments. Membership and cultural identity employ power through separation to elevate the status and legitimacy of insiders over outsider. As dynamic and contested spaces, organizational boundaries are based on processes of construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction in cross cultural relationships. Four significant functions of boundary are demarcation, perimeters, interfaces, and frontiers. Three contestations illustrate different complex problematics in the betweenness of …
