Language reflects how people think and behave in their culture. To have successful conversations, both language use and cultural awareness should be taken into consideration. Undeniably, Japanese grammar is different from Thai making it even harder for Thai learners to have fluent and appropriate conversations in the Japanese language. In the classroom, typically teachers often focus on grammar, leaving less time for students to practice conversation. Consequently, beginner learners often miss cultural details in conversations and are unable to communicate effectively. Thus, it is important for teachers to immerse students in the Japanese culture to improve their speaking skills and …

House Type Specification For Housing Development Project Using Machine Learning Techniques : A Study From Bangkok Metropolitan Region, Thailand, Kongkoon Tochaiwat, Patcharida Pultawee

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

Specifying the house type of a housing development project is extremely necessary. However, the determination of a project type nowadays has become a delicate matter, requiring the expertise and knowledge of seasoned project developers. This study aimed to apply four machine learning techniques: Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosted Tree and Ensemble Classifier, to analyze the data from 179 housing estate projects collected from market reports of real estate companies in Thailand, with a focus on selecting projects with average monthly sales rates that are higher than the average of all acquired projects. This process resulted in a reduced dataset …

Cfd Assessment Of Covid-19 Infection Risk In Naturally Ventilated Detached Houses, Chalermwat Tantasavasdi, Thawanrat Rianngon, Natthaumporn Inprom

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

The airborne nature of COVID-19 dispersion has considerably impacted architectural and ventilation system designs. This research studies the COVID-19 infection risk in typical naturally ventilated detached houses in Thailand. Influencing parameters include the opening size and location of the infected person. Computational Fluid Dynamic was used to simulate the virus spreading in major spaces including the master bedroom, a bedroom and the living room. The Wells-Riley equation was adopted to assess personal infection risk (Pp) and area infection risk (Pa) in 12 case setups. The results reveal that opening size affects more on Pa than Pp …

Prioritizing Target Motorcycle Owners To Promote Electric Vehicles Among Motorcycle Taxi Drivers In Bangkok, Ornich Anuchitchanchai, Saksith Chalermpong

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

Governments in many countries have announced their own emission targets and launched several measures to mitigate transport-sourced air pollution, including policies to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs). However, electrifying a fleet of vehicles requires high investment and it is difficult to fully implement all at once. Therefore, this research aims to develop a framework to help prioritize locations to promote EVs using motorcycle taxis in Bangkok as a case study. The surveyed data was collected from 406 motorcycle taxi drivers around Bangkok. The proposed framework is based on two aspects. One is the impact on CO2 emission reduction …

Systematic Review Of Built Environment Attributes Of Walkability : Cases Of Malaysia, Khair Eddine Demdoum, Yazid Mohd Yunos, Norsidah Ujang, Nangkula Utaberta

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

Walkability has gained considerable traction in recent years as a key concept for promoting sustainable urban environments and healthier lifestyles. Built environment attributes such as infrastructure, streetscape design, land use mix, and street connectivity were found to have a high impact on walking behavior. However, due to the context-specific nature of walkability, where attributes deemed important in one context may not hold the same significance in another, this study aims to examine walkability attributes and methods within the Malaysian context. The goal is to offer valuable insights for researchers and policymakers operating in similar contexts. This study employed a systematic …

From Gated-Community To Gated-Neighbourhood : The Case Of A Housing Estate Bank In Mavişehir, Izmir, Aysu Gürman, Ece Buldan

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

Gated-communities have appeared as a housing strategy within the capitalist system. This study employs Lefebvre's understanding of spatial production to conceptualize gated-communities as abstract spaces and explore their effects on the built environment, which extends in scale from the individual home to the neighbourhood. The opted methodology for the study is a literature review and critical interpretation of theoretical studies on this field by focusing on the Mavişehir neighbourhood in İzmir. This neighbourhood, with multi-story buildings and villas, attracts senior and upper-middle-income residents seeking security and prestige. The area offers shopping malls, sports centres, schools, and open spaces in addition …

Implementing The Sister City Policy : Perspectives From Thailand, Lapyote Prasittisopin, Putikan Kitkuakul, Kasemsarn Chotchakornpant, Napong Tao Rugkhapan

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

Many national governments have adopted the Sister City collaboration model as a strategy for regional urban development, aiming to promote international collaboration and enhance urban growth at the provincial level. However, in countries with decentralized governance, the effectiveness of this model is often compromised, often resulting in limited outcomes and impacts. Drawing upon cases in Thailand, this study investigates the implementation dynamics and obstacles faced by provincial administrations and suggests practical remedies. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study analyzes a dataset of literature reviews, content analyses, surveys, and in-depth interviews. According to our research, there are 90 sister city agreements …

Evolving Urban Landscape : Colonial Influences And Selective Modernity In Sam Phraeng Shophouses And Aristocratic Palaces During King Rama V'S Reign, Chutarat Chitsopa

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

This study examines the architectural and urban transformation of Sam Phraeng, a historic Bangkok precinct, during King Rama V's reign (1868-1910). Employing Maurizio Peleggi's concept of 'Selective Modernity' and Iderlina B. Mateo-Babiano's work on urban space transformation, the research investigates modernity in an area near the Grand Palace considering historical restrictions on foreign residences.  The study notes that Western-style architecture near the Grand Palace was primarily limited to government offices, contrasting with areas like Northern Charoen Krung Road, which was developed as a foreign residential and commercial district since the late King Rama IV's reign. Against this backdrop, it explores …

Development Of A 3d Online System For Comparative Study Of Architectural Elements In Thai Stupas, Chawee Busayarat

NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)

Understanding architectural names and semantics is essential for studying historical sites. New educational media in 3D and 2D formats, available online and offline, supports this by using specific buildings to illustrate shapes, positions, and proportions along with names and semantics. This approach works well for initial education, but in-depth study requires comparing architectural elements to identify similarities and differences. Today, comparative learning is recognized as an effective method for enhancing understanding. Therefore, this research focuses on developing a 3D online system for studying the names and semantics of architectural elements in Thai stupas and their architectural elements. The system features …
