Development Of Duplex Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (Dlamp) For Detection Of Carbapenem Antibiotic-Resistant Genes Kpc And Ndm, Nindi Syahputri Lubis
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Carbapenems are regarded as a last-resort option for treating a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections. Unfortunately, the prevalence of carbapenem-resistant genes has been on the rise among patients. Some factors contribute to this trend, including prolonged hospital stays, prior antibiotic usage, inappropriate or insufficient antibiotic treatment, and contamination through wounds or feces. The emergence of carbapenem-resistant (CR) genes gained significant attention, particularly after 2005. These CR genes are frequently carried on mobile genetic elements such as plasmids or transposons, enabling their transmission to other bacteria. Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) and New delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) stand out as …

Correlation Between Virus Reduction And Trihalomethanes Risk After Chlorine Disinfection, Waraporn Khantong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
While wastewater disinfection is essential to mitigate the threats from waterborne pathogens, there arises a potential risk from disinfection byproducts. Striking a balance between achieving microbial reduction and managing the occurrence of disinfection byproducts is crucial for maintaining both microbial and chemical risks at acceptable levels. The cancer risk assessment was based on THMs through of oral ingestions, inhalation absorptions, and dermal absorptions exposure. This study aims to investigate the relationship between virus reduction and THMs formation, and to assess their respective cancer risk levels post-chlorination, and determined treatment process was used to decreased cancer risk post-chlorination. Effluent wastewater was …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
To date, porcine circoviruses (PCVs), particularly PCV2 and PCV3, have been identified globally, while PCV4 is mainly found in Asia. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and genetic characterization of PCVs in Thai swine farms during 2019-2020. Results showed PCV2 is the predominant species, followed by PCV3 and PCV4. For genetic analysis, the dominant novel PCV2d cluster with amino acid mutation (133HDAM136) in ORF2 was found in Thai swine farms that had not been detected in Thailand before. Moreover, inter-genotypic recombinant PCV2b/d was first identified in Thailand. The genetic analysis of PCV3 showed that PCV3 was grouped into PCV3a …

Identification And Characterization Of Bacteriophages For Phage Cocktail Formulation Specific To Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli, Pattida Kongsomboonchoke
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are commonly found in elderlies, infants, hospitalized patients, and most women. UTIs are caused by a variety of pathogens with uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is mostly prevalence. Even though UPEC can be treated with several antibiotics, the rapid emergence of multidrug resistant (MDR)-UPEC renders the antibiotic treatment no longer successful. Therapy using phages, which are bacterial viruses, has been considered but it is limited by bacterial resistance that develops during evolution. Fortunately, the suppression of phage resistance can be improved when used several phages as a cocktail. Here, I aim to formulate an efficient phage cocktail …

Background: Accurate data are critical for public health surveillance yet can be challenging to ensure. The Tennessee (TN) HPV Vaccine IMPACT Project aims to assess the effectiveness of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in prevention of cervical cancer and high-grade dysplasia through laboratory reporting of pathology results among Davidson County women. This project assessed feasibility and value of use of administrative sources for improved data quality and completeness of high-grade cervical events in TN HPV-IMPACT between 2013-2017.
Method: We queried three administrative data systems (Hospital Discharge Data System, Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center, and Tennessee Medicaid [TennCare]) for eligible women with …

Diabetes is the third most customary non-infectious disease occurring worldwide and leads to untimely disability and mortality. This metabolic disorder is characterized by impaired insulin secretions and high blood glucose levels. Among others, type 2 diabetes is the most common. Various chemical and biochemical hypoglycemic drugs are utilized to control and treat hyperglycemia but required further interventions to reduce their toxicity and side effects on the users. Edible mushrooms have been employed from ancient times to heal many diseases as it composed of anti-oxidant, alkaloids, fibers, triterpenoids, and other phytochemicals. The bioactive secondary metabolites of mushrooms can improve insulin resistance …

Fund Characteristics Immunity To Covid-19 Pandemic: Evidence From Thailand, Primporn Thanomsakul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research investigates the relationship between COVID-19 growth rates and the performance of Thai equity funds during the pandemic. Focusing on weeks with substantial increases in COVID-19 cases, we hypothesize that negative returns primarily originate from these weeks. We acknowledge the pandemic's impact as a black swan event, instilling fear and uncertainty, and its demonstrated negative effect on fund returns. Moreover, our research aims to identify the fund characteristics that have provided resilience and immunity to the negative effects of the crisis. Using a panel data regression with a fixed effect model, we analyze various fund characteristics and their impact …

This study aims to examine the associations between the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and alternative indicators. Specifically, Apple mobility index, Google community mobility index, and Nighttime-light (NTL) data are used for empirical analyses using ordinary least squares (OLS) and panel regressions as research methods. Results produced by OLS models show that Apple’s subcategory of driving activity and Google’s subcategory of visiting transit places are negatively associated with the number of COVID-19 cases. To extend the spatiotemporal details of this analysis, we formulate the panel data by integrating the monthly provincial indicators of Apple mobility index, NTL index, and the …
