Willingness To Pay For Improving Household Solid Waste Management In Vietnam, Phan C. Chinh, Nguyen T.Q. Hung, Nguyen M. Ky, Nguyen T.L. Ai, Nguyen M. Tam

Applied Environmental Research

Management of solid waste is a major challenge in urban areas of most parts of the world, especially in developing countries. The study aimed to determine and estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) of the selected households for the improvement of solid waste management in Vietnam. The research evaluated WTP of household solid waste in case studies in Bien Hoa and My Tho cities using contingent valuation method (CVM). The data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire survey and interviews with 200 households. The results showed that the most willingness to pay was equal to 10,000 and 15,000 VND per …

Current Trends In Steroidal 17Α-Ethynylestradiol (Ee2) Removal From The Environment: A Review, Wasiu A. Abibu, Gafar Bamigbade, Amos O. Kolawole, Taiwo Ajayi, Abdul W. Sakariyau

Applied Environmental Research

Emerging contaminants have posed major environmental and health challenges to human and aquatic lives. They include pharmaceuticals, endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), persistent environmental pollutants and many more. EE2 is an example of an endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) increasingly gaining acceptance and used to augment the deficiencies of other reproductive hormones. EE2 constitutes environmental nuisance via discharge into aquatic bodies, thus, threatening aquatic lives and resulting in health defects in human. It is worthy of note that previous researchers have channeled their studies to identifying ways of expelling EE2 from the environment. However, they remain persistent in the environment. The current …

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Background: Foot reflexology has been re-emerging as one of the most popular forms of alternative therapy.Although the mechanisms of reflexology have not been apparently understood yet, physiological changes can be found from reflexology, e.g., reduced blood pressure, reduced heart rate, and activated brain functions. However, there are still only a small number of studies on the physiological relationships between foot reflexology and changes in blood flow. Objectives: This investigation aimed to study the effects of brain-associated and kidney-associated foot reflexology on blood flow to the brain and kidneys. The second objective was to examine the effects of pressure differences to reflex …

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Background: Patients with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) exhibit a decrease in functional status during the postoperative period. The rehospitalization rate within the first month is 8.0% - 21.0%. Therefore, during the first month after discharge, most patients require help from health care teams. Telehealth programs promote health monitoring and share health information remotely during transitional stages, encouraging awareness, increasing cardiac rehabilitation and physical function. As a result, the number of rehospitalizations is also reduced. Objectives: This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of a telehealth program on the functional status and rehospitalization rates of patients with CABG. Methods: …

Early pregnancy diagnosis following insemination is an important component of the reproductive management program to shorten the calving interval in water buffaloes. A recent method to detect pregnancy in dairy animals is through pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs) that are present during implantation and throughout the gestation period. In this study, milk PAG Enzyme-Link Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) technique was used and run in parallel with blood PAG ELISA for its efficiency in detecting early pregnancy in lactating buffaloes. Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) was conducted in lactating buffaloes followed by the collection of milk and blood samples postFTAI. Samples were then assayed …

Recent clinical studies have documented a high prevalence of dental disorders in donkeys. However, there are few studies about the same topic in China. A cross-sectional study was performed to investigate the prevalence of clinically diagnosed dental disorders of donkeys in China. A total of 101 jennies which had never received any dental care were examined for the presence of dental disorders under small-holder farm conditions. The prevalence of dental disorders was analyzed by Chi‐square test or Fisher's exact correlation test. The strength of association was evaluated using Cramer's V test. Jennies between 2 and 15 years of age were …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Ultrasonographic measurements of extra-foetal or foetal structures have been reported as an accurate means of predicting the date of parturition in the bitch. However, for many years, radiography has been clinically useful for pregnancy diagnosis, determining the number of foetuses and prolonged foetal death. Guidelines for estimating the canine parturition date based on foetal skeletal mineralization in relation to gestational age and preovulatory LH surge have been applied in small animal practice. The aims of this retrospective study were to evaluate the accuracy of parturition date prediction using foetal radiographic findings in small size dogs (1-10 kg), and to determine …
