Heat Flux Measurement By Miniature Calorimeters, Gary Rex Coffin

During recent years an increasing number of technical firms and manufacturers have begun to specify heat flux, energy input per unit area per unit time, as a testing and designing criteria. This change in the boundary condition (to heat flux from temperature excess or others) evolved from the idea that each material has a characteristic burning temperature. Therefore, the rate of ablation or burning depends mainly upon the rate of energy input into the specimen, and not its temperature. Thus, the need for a flux measuring device became more acute.

In the desert areas of southwestern United States the Coleoptera, family Tenebrionidae, constitute a conspicuous part of the ground-dwelling insects. Most species are black or dull chestnut-brown. They are primarily nocturnal and during the day can be found under rocks, debris, loose bark, or in rodent burrows. On cloudy days they may be seen lumbering along the desert floor. Most tenebrionids feed on plant materials of various sorts. In August, 1959, Brigham Young University initiated an ecological study at the Nevada Test Site near Mercury in Nye County, Nevada. A Study Of The Morphology And Systematics Of The Genera Polydrusus And Scythropus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Gary L. Jensen

The objectives of this study were 1) to further clarify the status of the genera Polydrusus and Scythropus and 2) to redescribe and elucidate the morphology and distribution of the species of Scythropus in order to better facilitate their identification. Some 1650 specimens were used in the study and about 300 of these were critically examined for morphological variations of the head, beak, antennae, thorax, elytra, abdomen, integument, legs, genitalia, and eighth tergite and ninth segment of the male. Over one hundred genitalia were dissected and critically examined for good characters. The male genitalia were the most reliable single characters …

The major objectives were: (a) to determine if male adolescents would have a higher traditional score than female adolescents on the marriage role expectation inventory; and (b) to determine if marriage role expectations of adolescents are related to sex, church activity, parent's education, employment of mother, and ordinal position.

Research of the relationship between orthodoxy and prejudice is not clear. Some studies report those who acknowledge church membership to be less tolerant than those who do not. Other investigators find either slight differences or no differences among the attitudes of members of different religions. Still others find important differences in acceptance of orthodox religious beliefs and attitudes toward minority groups.

This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining the effectiveness of L.D.S. Seminary-oriented home night program. The home night program consisted of an experimental group of students holding weekly home nights with their parents, following discussion of gospel principles in Seminary during the school hours. A control group was established which supplemented its program writing weekly summaries instead of directing a home night.

A general survey of the vegetational changes of the rangelands of the Uinta Basin was made using historical records, documents, interviews, and recent vegetational surveys. Historical vegetatienal information about the Uinta Basin is very limited, most of it pertaining to the vegetation along the streams and rivers. Escalante, in 1776, mentioned the splendid groves of cottonwoods, the fine pastures, and the abundance of game along the rivers. Ashley in 1825 and Powell in 1870 entered the Basin via the Green River. Ashley crossed the Basin following the Duchesne River and its tributary the Strawberry River. He described the groves of …

Brigham Young (1801-1877), second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, encouraged early Church members to build up the Kingdom of God. Unlike other Christians, Young and the Latter-day Saints believed that the Kingdom of God was temporal, not just spiritual. The article outlines the traits of the Kingdom's government and society and asserts that the faith of the Latter-day Saints and their leader caused them to labor to make their Utopia a reality.

This article closely studies the predominantly British military strategy of the Allied forces in 1942 and 1943. It examines the characteristics of, the reasons behind, and the consequences of these strategies, as well as the reasons why the policies changed in the latter part of 1943. Shortly after the attack at Pearl Harbor, Churchill met with the Americans to determine how to proceed. Background To The Theory Of Arabic Origins, M. Carl Gibson

In the late eighteenth century, Xavier Lampillas asserted that fourteenth-century Italian poets were influenced by the Spanish Arabic poetic style through the Provençal poets. Lampillas was not the first person to make this assertion, but his argument came at a time when the relative merit of Italian and Spanish was widely debated. Although his ideas were eventually discarded due to a lack of evidence, scholars are now revisiting this theory and are slowly beginning to substantiate it.

In recent years much attention has been devoted to the development of efficient heat exchangers. The regenerative or moving matrix heat exchanger is one type which has been considered. Most regenerative heat exchangers use one of the conventional types of high area matrices mounted in a drum or disk in such a manner that it can be moved in a continuous cycle from a cold fluid stream to a hot fluid stream and back again.
