Age, Gender, And Religious Differences In Moral Perspective, Samuel L. Clay
Age, Gender, And Religious Differences In Moral Perspective, Samuel L. Clay
Theses and Dissertations
An investigation was conducted to see if age and gender are related to a preference for a caring versus a justice morality. The World View Questionnaire with 40 word pairs was used to measure a preference for a caring morality. It was found that there was a significant gender difference in the caring score, with the females scoring higher than the males. There also was a significant religious difference in the caring score with religious and especially Mormon subjects scoring higher than non-religious subjects. There was not, however, a significant age difference as was predicted.

Review of Books on the Book of Mormon 1989–2011
President Ezra Taft Benson's call to emphasize the Book of Mormon is reflected in the effort of the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies to promote the study of this book of scripture. The Review is founded on the deeply held belief that the Book of Mormon has immense value to both the Church and the world. The reviewers look at publications, both positive and negative, that deal with the Book of Mormon.

Prophetic Messages Or Dogmatic Theology? Commenting On The Book Of Mormon: A Review Essay, Louis Midgley
Prophetic Messages Or Dogmatic Theology? Commenting On The Book Of Mormon: A Review Essay, Louis Midgley
Review of Books on the Book of Mormon 1989–2011
Review of Doctrinal Commentary on the Book of Mormon, Volume I: First and Second Nephi (1987), and Volume II: Jacob through Mosiah (1988), by Joseph fielding McConkie and Robert L. Millet.
The faith of the Nephites and the language of the Book of Mormon tends to be harmonized with certain contemporary statements about Mormon beliefs. The Book of Mormon should be more than a resource for theology. Rather than seeking confimation for what we already know, we should search for the meaning and message of the text.
Approaching Zion, Hugh Nibley
Approaching Zion, Hugh Nibley
Maxwell Institute Publications
When shall we see Zion? In 1833 the Lord told Joseph Smith, “There is even now already in store sufficient, yea, even an abundance, to redeem Zion, and establish her waste places, to no more be thrown down, were the churches, who call themselves after my name, willing to hearken to my voice” (D&C 101:75). In Approaching Zion, Hugh Nibley echoes this message—that the Latter-day Saints will see Zion when they stop seeking Babylon.
Compiled from two decades of writing on this subject, these stimulating essays are provocative and sobering, based as they are, in Nibley fashion, on ample …

The World And The Prophets: The Collected Works Of Hugh Nibley Volume 3, Hugh Nibley
Maxwell Institute Publications
In 1954, Hugh Nibley delivered a series of weekly lectures on KSL Radio. The series called “Time Vindicates the Prophets,” was given in answer to those who were challenging the right of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to call themselves Christians.
Just as the Church’s beliefs and institutions were under attack when these lectures were first given, so today’s critics are again attacking the Latter-day Saints’ conception of God, their claim to continuous revelation, their belief in Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, their acceptance of the Book of Mormon as a true record, …
Mormonism And Early Christianity, Hugh Nibley
Mormonism And Early Christianity, Hugh Nibley
Maxwell Institute Publications
From the outset of his career, Dr. Hugh Nibley has been centrally concerned with primitive Christianity, especially the shadowy era between the New Testament proper and the emergence and the triumph of the Catholic Church and Holy Roman Empire. That is the era treated in the nine essays collected in this volume.
The essays cover such subjects as early accounts of Jesus’ childhood, the Savior’s forty-day ministry after his resurrection, baptism for the dead in ancient times, the passing of the primitive church, and the early Christian prayer circle.
Each essay examines the close connection between the practices and the …

Hoary-Headed Saints: The Aged In Nineteenth-Century Mormon Culture, Brian D. Reeves
Theses and Dissertations
This study paints a picture of prevalent attitudes toward the Mormon elderly in the nineteenth century. It identifies some characteristics of the aged population, and discusses feelings expressed by individual older persons about different aspects of their lives. It is a first step in gaining a greater understanding of how they fit into the larger pictures of old age and the Mormon Church in nineteenth century America.

Old Testament And Related Studies, Hugh Nibley
Old Testament And Related Studies, Hugh Nibley
Maxwell Institute Publications
In December 1832, the Lord instructed the Prophet Joseph Smith, “Seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.”
Few members of the Church have followed that admonition as faithfully as has Hugh Nibley, emeritus professor of ancient history at Brigham Young University. As a young man he memorized vast portions of Shakespeare and studied Old English, Latin, Greek and other languages. As a student at Berkeley, in he began reading the southwest corner of the ninth level of the …
