Objective: Many students are fearful of vaccine injection-associated pain. In prior research, we created Knowledge Translation (KT) tools to address school vaccinations and associated pain, fear, and fainting. The objectives of this pilot implementation project were to determine the acceptability and impact of these KT tools on student knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of their vaccination experience. Methods: Pre-post mixed methods design. Students in an independent school in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, participated in two separate focus groups before and after school vaccinations. In both sessions, they independently completed a knowledge and attitudes survey, reviewed three KT tools (two videos …

Objective: School-based vaccination programs can be a source of distress for many students due to the pain from the needle injection and related fears. We created a multifaceted Knowledge Translation (KT) intervention to address vaccination and pain, fear, and fainting called The CARD™ System. The objectives were to document acceptability of key tools included in the multifaceted KT intervention and their effectiveness in improving knowledge and attitudes about vaccination pain and fear. Methods: Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. Students, school staff, public health nurses, and parents participated in separate focus groups whereby they independently completed a knowledge and attitudes …

Objective: We conducted a small-scale implementation study that integrated The CARDTM System (C-Comfort, A-Ask, R-Relax, D-Distract)-a multifaceted knowledge translation intervention designed to improve the vaccination experience at school-within the school vaccination program. Methods: Mixed methods design, including a controlled clinical trial and focus group interviews. The experimental group included five schools whereby CARDTM was implemented. The control group included five schools whereby no changes were made. Focus groups were held at the end of the school year. For nurses trained in CARDTM, additional focus groups were held at CARDTM training and after the first round of vaccine clinic visits. Outcomes …

Background: Many students are afraid of receiving vaccinations at school. We implemented a novel, multifaceted knowledge translation intervention incorporating evidence-based vaccination coping strategies-The CARDTM System (C-Comfort, A-Ask, R-Relax, D-Distract)-and evaluated impact on student attitudes, knowledge, coping strategies used, and symptoms during school-based vaccinations. Methods: Mixed methods. Ten schools participated in a controlled clinical trial: five experimental and five control. Experimental School (ES) students completed a knowledge and attitudes survey during an in-class CARDTM educational session prior to school vaccinations and selected coping strategies for upcoming vaccinations. Control School (CS) students received the usual vaccine education lesson, which did not include …
'It Feels Like We're Together As A Team': Communal Orientations To Marriage Among Gay Men And Lesbians, Aaron Hoy
Sociology Department Publications
Scholars have observed that gay men and lesbians are more likely than heterosexual men and women to hold individualistic orientations to nonmarital relationships. However, it is unclear whether they approach marriage in the same way. Drawing on interviews with currently married gay men and lesbians, this presentation shows that many actually hold communal orientations to marriage, especially in the ways they describe their mutual interdependence, the division of household labor, and their couple-level decision-making practices.

Invasive Flora, Sadie Burnash
B.F.A. Practicum Exhibition (ART 498)
Flowers are a beautiful, ever changing part of nature. Historically, flowers have been symbols for beauty, love, and fertility. However, I choose to paint poisonous flowers to represent the fatal beauty of the things we are drawn to even when they are not good for us. Within my work, poisonous flowers symbolize negative thoughts and emotions I have about self-harm and being trapped.
Little moments in my life bring about anxious feelings. To both represent and to combat these feelings, I create images of domestic space relatable to the viewer, but fraught with tense energy from proliferating flowers and intense …

Peloton Tracking And Analysis From The 2016 Tour De France, Tadd T. Truscott, Jesse Belden
Browse all Datasets
The work associated with this project is described in a manuscript entitled "How vision governs the collective behavior of cycling pelotons" by Belden et al., along with an electronic supplementary material document. We investigate properties of densely packed groups of bicycle racers, which are known as cycling pelotons. These pelotons exhibit features of collective animal behavior, including emergent behavior from inter-individual interactions. In this data set, we classify global shapes of the peloton, and identify and track individual cyclists to determine the details of network structure. We also investigate motion waves that propagate through the pelotons.

BrainsCAN Publications
© Sleep Research Society 2018. Resting state network (RSN) functional connectivity (FC) has been investigated under a wealth of different healthy and compromised conditions. Such investigations are often dependent on the defined spatial boundaries and nodes of so-called canonical RSNs, themselves the product of extensive deliberations over distinctions between functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) noise and neural signal, specifically in the context of the healthy waking state. However, a similar unbiased cataloging of noise and networks remains to be done in other states, particularly sleep, a healthy alternate mode of the brain that supports distinct operations from wakefulness, such as …
