Deep Orange 7: Development And Usability Testing Of A Novel Parking Assist System That Aids Other Drivers While Parking, Lauren Mims, Johnell Brooks, Mitch Beckman, Breno Schwambach

Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS)

Current parking assist systems are designed to aid the driver. A new concept for a parking assist system was designed to help other drivers. Sixteen participants completed this usability study to evaluate the intuitiveness of the parking assist concept. The results showed that all of the participants understood the purpose of the system without any explanation. Participants provided valuable suggestions for future iterations. The majority of the participants would like to have a similar parking assist system on their own vehicle as well as using it while parking. Future efforts are suggested prior to incorporating this concept on a production …

Who Really Understands The Information Presented On Instrument Clusters?, Breno Schwambach, Lauren Mims, Casey Jenkins, Johnell Brooks

Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS)

With the dramatic increase of vehicle technology, instrument clusters have become increasingly complex. The development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and different powertrain configurations (e.g. internal combustion engines, hybrids, electric vehicles) has increased the demand on drivers to become familiar with the amount of information displayed. Teen drivers, automotive engineering students, driving rehabilitation specialists, and performance driving instructors completed a survey. Overall, participants had poor performance identifying symbols that are presented to the driver on the instrument cluster. Teens had dramatically poorer performance (29%) compared to the three other groups (60%).

Purpose To assess the feasibility of using a widely validated, web-based neurocognitive test battery (Cambridge Brain Sciences, CBS) in a cohort of critical illness survivors. Methods We conducted a prospective observational study in two intensive care units (ICUs) at two tertiary care hospitals. Twenty non-delirious ICU patients who were mechanically ventilated for a minimum of 24 hours underwent cognitive testing using …

Coating Orthopedic Implants With An Epoxy Based Ph Sensitive Layer To Image Ph Changes On Implant Surface Through Tissue Using X-Ray Excited Luminescence Chemical Imaging, Unaiza Uzair, Chloe Johnson, Donald Benza, Shayesteh Beladi Apr 2019

Coating Orthopedic Implants With An Epoxy Based Ph Sensitive Layer To Image Ph Changes On Implant Surface Through Tissue Using X-Ray Excited Luminescence Chemical Imaging, Unaiza Uzair, Chloe Johnson, Donald Benza, Shayesteh Beladi

Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS)

Implant-associated infection is a leading cause of fixation failures and is often challenging to detect due to lack of symptoms and specific tests to detect localized infection. Low pH is believed to be associated with infection as bacteria and inflammatory responses cause a pH drop in the affected area. Previously we have developed a pH sensitive coating to detect these pH changes and thus indicate infection but it has been challenging to completely cover the implant surface using this coating. Herein we introduce a method to coat the entire orthopedic plate using an epoxy based coating. First step is to …

Isolation And Quantification Of Human Urinary Exosomes By Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography On Pet C-Cp Fiber Phase, Sisi Huang, Tyler J. Slonecki, Lei Wang, Rhonda R. Powell

Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS)

Exosomes are membranous vesicles ranging from 30-150 nm in diameter, which are secreted by virtually all cell types and found in most bodily fluids, including blood, urine, and saliva, under both healthy and morbid conditions. Exosomes carry diverse cellular constituents from their parent cells including proteins, messenger RNAsmicroRNAs, and DNA. As such, they are important in intracellular communication, and play key roles in many intercellular functions and cancer progression. Furthermore, mounting evidence suggests that tumor cells secrete more exosomes than normal cells. These features have prompted extensive research to isolate and quantify exosomes for prognosis as well as to serve …

The Role Of The Bacterial Secondary Messenger, Cyclic Di-Guanosine-Monophosphate, In Interkingdom Communication, Joseph Angeloni Apr 2019

The Role Of The Bacterial Secondary Messenger, Cyclic Di-Guanosine-Monophosphate, In Interkingdom Communication, Joseph Angeloni

Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS)

Background: Cyclic di-nucleotides (CDNs) are described as important secondary signaling molecules in bacteria that have the ability to regulate a wide range of processes. More recently, the role of these molecules has expanded to the eukaryotic domain where they act in modulating the innate immune response, but their influences have the potential to be far reaching. Through our studies, we have shown that Caenorhabditis elegans are able to detect and are attracted towards numerous signaling molecules produced by Vibrio cholerae, specifically cyclic di-guanosine-monophosphate (c-di-GMP), even though this bacterium kills the host at a high rate. We investigate how c-di-GMP is …

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (Pah) Data From Reef Fish Collected At Natural Reefs Sites In The Northern Gulf Of Mexico From 2015-08-30 To 2017-11-02, Miaya Glabach, Isabel Romero

C-IMAGE data

This dataset contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) data from reef fish collected at natural reefs sites in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The samples were collected on multiple vessels (Backdown II, Intimidator, and Total Package) from 2015-08-30 to 2017-11-02. Liver samples extracted from reef fishes were frozen in liquid nitrogen at sea, then kept frozen in a -80 °C freezer. Liver samples were transferred to the University of South Florida where they were analyzed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for PAHs.

Cewaf-Exposed Florida Pompano Reproduction Data For Test Id-208: Spawn And Hatch & Reproductive Function Assays, Dana Wetzel

C-IMAGE data

This project was undertaken to evaluate the fecundity, fertility, hatch success and larval survival of fish (Florida pompano) upon exposure to chemically enhanced water accommodated fraction (CEWAF) of south Louisiana crude oil. Hence, fish were exposed to CEWAF in tanks for a specified period of time and evaluated in terms of percentage of eggs that were fertilized, the percentage of fertilized eggs that hatched and the percentage of survival. Protein content and reproductive steroid concentrations were also measured.
