We Still Count: Ethnographic Research On Subculture Developed Through Social Media, Valerie Santillan
Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium
This study will be covering the influence social media has on the children of immigrants discovering and connecting to their cultural identities. Social media reunites families and lost long friends, informs worldwide to local issues, among other benefits in which scholar William Cronan would describe this as fulfilling the liberal education- to connect. Connecting through media platforms catered to bringing ideas together created a subculture in this population. Despite being born into the culture of the country in which they are found, cultural ties from home life and of an unfamiliar old country developed belonging.

The website contained the table Count of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases by Date of Onset , sorted by Michigan Preparedness Region. It also contained 18 charts, including the count of confirmed Covid-19 cases by date of onset in the state overall as well as in each preparedness region, and the normalized rate of Covid-19 cases per 1,000,000 residents in both the state and in each preparedness region.

C-IMAGE data
This dataset contains gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS) measurements of seafloor sediments collected aboard multiple cruises in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2010-07-26 to 2014-06-28. These 112 samples were selected based on the information available in the NOAA DIVER database, including location, depth, total extractable hydrocarbon amount, and the time of sample collection. The sediment samples were frozen in glass jars after collection. Upon request, a portion of the original frozen sediments was provided. The samples were then freeze-dried, processed, and the organic material was extracted. This was then separated into the …

The Historic Foundations Of Recent Guatemalan Migration And How They Are Connected, Gabriella Gardziola
Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium
Immigration has been a topic drawing a lot of attention within the last few years, especially those from Central America. Attention brought to the Latin American region has been focused on the violence perpetrated by gangs and other groups. But what led the region to where it is now? The drive of immigration from Guatemala in the last few decades is not a new development nor did it happen suddenly. Centuries of history and influence from the forces around it led Guatemalan migration to where it is now. The conditions for the wave of Guatemala immigration during the later part …

The Brain Development Of Anolis Sagrei, Alexandrea Turnquist
Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium
With the impending climate change crisis, it is important to understand the effect that increased incubation temperatures will have on ectotherm development, particularly brain development. This study shows the development of A. sagrei brains under normal conditions in order to provide a comparison for abnormal development of the brain under heat stress.
The Potential Buffering Mechanisms Of Reptilian Embryos Developing Under Thermal Stress, Michelle Hajduk
The Potential Buffering Mechanisms Of Reptilian Embryos Developing Under Thermal Stress, Michelle Hajduk
Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium
Reptile embryos are under the growing threat of increasing global temperatures. Rising temperatures have the potential to induce changes in morphology, physiology, and, in extreme cases, induce gross structure malformations. Heat stress proteins (Hsps) are part of a signaling cascade that buffers the effects of environmental stress, namely heat, on the developing embryo. Two Hsps, Hsp90 and Hsp70, are the most widely expressed and most deeply studied heat shock proteins. These are also known to be expressed in the developing neural tissues of reptiles. Normal or changing Hsp expression across potential incubation temperatures have not been studied in developing anole …

Fall armyworm (FAW), one of the most important pests of maize in Latin America, suddenly appeared in Africa in 2016 and spread rapidly. Estimates of crop losses due to FAW are essential in order to compare the impact of these losses with the cost of controlling FAW and advise appropriate technology dissemination and policy. In this study, therefore, crop losses due to FAW in 2017 and 2018 were estimated in all the maize production areas of Kenya. Data were collected during June and July 2018 through 121 group discussions with 1439 farmers, separately with men (697) and women (742), in …

Teaching The Power Of Pictures, Rachel Speranza
KUCC -- Kutztown University Composition Conference
Though choosing sources that have specific copyright that allows for the reuse, modification, and redistribution of pictures is an important lesson for all students of all grade levels, what’s even a more important lesson is that of the power of social media. The perfect picture can spread like a wildfire across all social media platforms. Pictures have the power to change someone’s mood, political opinion, and even advocate for change on the other side of the world.

The mindset of antebellum-era plantation owners in the southern United States was complex to say the least. Slavery became an integral part of not only southern society, but also the global economy due to British demand for raw materials in order to fuel their industrial revolution. What is important to understand, though, about this business model is that it is almost entirely based in acquiring more property (land and slaves) which are then managed together in order to produce profitable goods. It is the same concept shared by the owner of a factory who acquires more space for operations and …
