Numerical Solution To A One-Dimensional Nonlinear Problem Of Heat Wave Propagation In A Rigid Thermal Conducting Slab, N H Sweilam, A F Ghaleb, M S Abou-Dina, M M Abou Hasan

Faculty Journal Articles

This work aims at presenting a new numerical solution to a nonlinear, one-dimensional problem of heat wave propagation in a thick slab of a rigid thermal conductor. The model predicts dependence of second sound velocity on temperature and heat flux. For this, an unconditionally stable numerical scheme is constructed using a kind of weighted average nonstandard finite difference discretization. Stability analysis of this scheme is studied by von Neumann technique, and its accuracy is proved. Numerical simulations are given for all quantities of physical interest to confirm the reliability of the proposed method. The model and the numerical results shed …

Faculty and Staff Works

Salamanders constitute the second largest order of amphibians in the world. The 762 species occurring globally are organized into nine families, of which eight are found in the Western Hemisphere. The 308 species of Mesoamerican salamanders are arranged in four families, only two of which have representatives occurring significantly south of the US-Mexican border. Those two families are the Ambystomatidae, with 18 Mesoamerican species, and the Plethodontidae, with 287 species. Most of the Mesoamerican salamanders are endemic to either Mexico or Central America or to Mesoamerica in general. The largest number of endemic species belong to the genera Ambystoma, Bolitoglossa, …

Anthropogenic Sound In The Sea: Are Ascidians Affected?, Kristine N. White, Louis J. Ambrosio, Christa Edwards

Faculty and Staff Works

Sound pollution in the marine environment has been increasing largely due to anthropogenic sources such as vessel traffic, coastal development, fossil fuel extraction, and military exercises. Studies determining the effects of anthropogenic sound on marine organisms have mostly focused on vertebrates, namely fish and marine mammals; however, less research has been done to study the effects of sound on marine invertebrates. The goal of this research is to examine the effect of anthropogenic sound on the ascidian Styela plicata (Lesueur, 1823) in Tampa Bay, FL. A total of 48 ascidians were collected from 2 sites with differing amounts of boat …

Saltwater Intrusion In Coastal Regions, Alex K. Manda, Samuel Mutiti

Faculty and Staff Works

On the eastern seaboard of the United States, many coastal cities with growing populations are at risk from saltwater intrusion. In this module, students will use principles of physical groundwater hydrology to evaluate the vulnerability of coastal communities to saltwater intrusion.

Human-Robot Collaboration: A Multilevel And Integrated Leadership Framework, Chou-Yu (Joey) Tsai, Jason D. Marshall, Anwesha Choudhury, Andra Serban, Yoyo Tsung-Yu Hou, Malte F. Jung, Shelley D. Dionne, Francis J. Yammarino

Management and Accounting Faculty Scholarship

In an era of rapid advances in artificial intelligence, the deployment of robots in organizations is accelerating. Further, robotic capabilities are expanding to serve a broader range of leadership behaviors related to task accomplishment and relationship support. Despite the increasing use of robots in various roles across different industries, research on human-robot collaboration in the workplace is lagging behind. As such, the current research aims to provide a state-of-the-science review and directions for future work in this underdeveloped area. Drawing on current leadership paradigms, we review human-robot collaboration studies from four academic disciplines with a history of publishing such work …
