Fruit flies by infesting grafted mangoes cause considerable losses and loss of profit to the various actors range from producers to consumers. To control these pests, synthetic chemical insecticides use is generally the most common and first resort solution in all regions of Togo. But this method remains dangerous for human and environmental health. The objective of this study was to test the effecacy of Biofeed trap, an alternative solution that is environmentally friendly in comparison with a trap already used in the field (M3 traps based on food bait). Three orchards of about 1 ha for the 3 treatments …

Igg4-Related Disease With Multiorgan Involvement: A Case-Based Review, Nikhil N. Tarte, Chandana Shilpa Ravipati, Jose A. Leon De La Rocha, Elizabeth Rinker, Nirupa J. Patel

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is an immune-mediated multi-organ inflammatory disorder caused by tissue infiltration of lymphocytes with IgG4-secreting plasma cells. Herein, we discuss a case of a patient with IgG4-RD who had involvement of multiple organs: the kidneys, lymph nodes, bone marrow (biopsy performed), lungs, liver, and small intestine (imaging abnormalities). Although several case reports and series of IgG4-RD involving different organ involvement are in the literature, our patient has extensive simultaneous multi-organ involvement. We utilized the four domains (serologic, pathologic, radiologic, and pathologic) as discussed in the new 2019 ACR/EULAR classification criteria to provide a useful framework in considering an …

Brain Development Of Anolis Sagrei, Alexandrea Turnquist, Hannah Maher, Lilian Arnaoudoff

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

This presentation overviews the impact that heat stress has on Anolis sagrei development. Our lab uses microbiological and morphological techniques to understand the impact that heat stress (and climate change) has on the cranio-facial development of this lizard species. We have seen decreased brain size and increased incidence of facial clefting, and are looking to quantify the Shh signaling pathway during heat stress vs in normal conditions.

Heuristics For Capacity Allocation And Queue Assignment In Congested Service Systems With Stochastic Customer Demand And Immobile Servers, Adam Colley Apr 2021

Heuristics For Capacity Allocation And Queue Assignment In Congested Service Systems With Stochastic Customer Demand And Immobile Servers, Adam Colley

Operations Research and Engineering Management

We propose easy-to-implement heuristics for a problem referred to in the literature as the facility location problem with immobile servers, stochastic demand, and congestion, or the service system design problem. The problem is typically posed as one of allocating capacity to a set of M/M/1 queues to which customers with stochastic demand are assigned with the objective of minimizing a cost function composed of a fixed capacity-acquisition cost, a variable customer-assignment cost, and an expected-waiting-time cost. The expected-waiting-time cost results in a non-linear term in the objective function of the standard binary programming formulation of the problem. Thus, the solution …

Data For Farmland Preservation Study, Arthur J. Caplan, Brent C. Chamberlain

Browse all Datasets

This study fills a gap in cultural ecosystem service (CES) assessment of prime farmland located in peri-urban areas by presenting results from a choice experiment recently conducted in Utah’s Wasatch Front region. The choice experiment was designed to account for heterogeneous effects associated with a wide array of socio-demographic and attitudinal characteristics on household preferences for farmland preservation, including farmland used for the joint production of solar power and agricultural products. We apply a mixed-logit model to our data that controls for preference heterogeneity among Wasatch Front households along two dimensions – at the individual household level and according to …

Stress To Success: A Children's Book About Handling Stressful Situations, Marina Pennycuff

Honors Projects

For this project, I investigated the importance of bibliotherapy with school-aged children through the construction of my own children’s book that is focused around social-emotional aspects that are important for development. In particular, this children’s book was focused around different stressful events that can occur in a child’s life. This project allowed me to have a hands-on approach in researching this central topic. Another major goal for this project was that it granted me the ability to create a physical copy of a book that I will be able to use as a tool in my future career working with …

Lack Of Motivation In High School Students: Reach Curriculum, Alexandra L. Nickolauson Apr 2021

Lack Of Motivation In High School Students: Reach Curriculum, Alexandra L. Nickolauson

Dissertations, Theses, and Projects

The lack of motivation in high schoolers has increased in the last ten years. This literature review will explore the reasons for lack of motivation in high school students, and if school belonging, teacher enthusiasm, parent involvement, and holding students accountable contribute to motivation or if lack of those factors leads to more dropouts. The purpose of this literature review is to show why high school students have a lack of motivation and what can be done. The articles researched were focused on qualitative research. There were six major finds for lack of motivation: fear of failure, incuriosity, lack of …
