Tuning The Intrinsic Catalytic Activities Of Oxygen-Evolution Catalysts By Doping: A Comprehensive Review, Sivasankara Rao Ede, Zhiping Luo
College of Health, Science, and Technology
Electrochemical water splitting produces clean hydrogen fuel as one of the pivotal alternative energies to fossil fuels in the near future. However, the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a significant bottleneck that curtails large-scale applications of electrochemical water splitting technology, owing to its sluggish reaction kinetics. In the past few decades, various methods have been proposed to improve the OER kinetics. Among them, doping is a simple and efficient method to mold the OER kinetics of a catalyst by incorporating different or hetero atoms into the host lattice. These efforts are vital to design highly efficient OER catalysts for …

Improving Slideshows: Part 1, Matt Meier
S Center Resources
Matt Meier, Director of the Center for Speaking and Listening, shares a practical tip for creating more effective PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides presentations: minimizing on-screen text. By limiting slides to 7–10 words and avoiding full sentences, speakers help audiences focus on listening rather than reading. The video outlines strategies for converting text into visual imagery and highlights available services at DePauw's Speaking and Listening Center.

Does A Bottom-Up Mechanism Promote Hypoxia In The Mississippi Bight?, Virginie Sanial, Willard S. Moore, Alan M. Shiller
Faculty Publications
The Mississippi Bight, east of the Mississippi River, is a complex coastal ecosystem that, like the better-known Louisiana Shelf to the west, experiences seasonal bottom water hypoxia. However, input of allochthonous nutrients from the Mississippi River to the Mississippi Bight appears to be limited, begging the question of what drives seasonal hypoxia in this system. Prior research has suggested submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) could be an overlooked component of the Mississippi Bight biogeochemical system. We thus examined the hypothesis that SGD provides a “bottom up” driver for seasonal hypoxia in this area. We used a multi-tracer approach based on known …

Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV)-infected tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) plants emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) attractive to bumblebees (Bombus terrestris L.), which are important tomato pollinators, but which do not transmit CMV. We investigated if this effect was unique to the tomato-CMV pathosystem. In two bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars, infection with the potyviruses bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) or bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV), or with the cucumovirus CMV induced quantitative changes in VOC emission detectable by coupled gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. In free-choice olfactometry assays bumblebees showed an innate preference for VOC blends emitted by virus-infected non-flowering bean plants …

Atypical Osteochondroma Of The Lumbar Spine Associated With Suprasellar Pineal Germinoma: A Case Report, Patrik Suwak, Scott A. Barnett, Bryant M. Song, Michael J. Heffernan
School of Medicine Faculty Publications
BACKGROUND Osteochondromas are the most common benign bone tumor, accounting for 36% of benign bone tumors. Often found within the appendicular skeleton, osteochondromas of the spine are rare, comprising 4% to 7% of primary benign spinal tumors. CASE SUMMARY We report a case of a solitary lumbar osteochondroma in an 18-year-old male with a history of a suprasellar pineal germinoma treated with combined chemotherapy and radiation. He underwent mass excision and partial laminectomy with the ultrasonic bone scalpel (Misonix, Farmingdale, NY, United States) at the L5 Level without the use of adjuvants. The patient returned to work and full activities …

Ems Response Time For Patients Critically-Injured From Automobile Accidents Using Regression Analysis, Sneha R. Vanga, Phillip M. Ligrani, Mehrnaz Doustmohammadi, Michael Anderson
PRC-Affiliated Research
The ability to quickly and effectively receive medical treatment in the event of an automobile collision is one of the most important aspects in emergency medical services (EMS). Emergency medical service providers are the first to respond and manage cases related to trauma, emergency surgery, and critically injured patients. Response time for emergency medical services vehicles is especially important for areas, where travel distances are often much larger, compared to more urban areas. The importance of the present data and analysis procedures are their applicability to multiple environments, including urban settings. Methods: The present study is focused on optimization of …
