Telesimulation To Improve Critical Decision-Making In Prehospital Airway Management: A Feasibility Study, David M. French, Ragan A. Dubose-Morris, Frances W. Lee, Stanley J. Sulkowski, Edward C. Jauch
MUSC Faculty Journal Articles
Objectives: Telesimulation, in which learners and evaluators use technology to connect remotely to simulation-based learning activities, is effective for skills and decision-making review. Historical models in which learners are colocated with the simulation equipment have inherent issues, especially for emergency medical services (EMS) providers. This feasibility study placed the evaluators in the simulation center, whereas the learners were at a distance steering the scenario evolution through telehealth technologies. Methods: Volunteer EMS providers across South Carolina with varying levels of training and experience completed difficult airway management scenarios focused on clinical decision making. The program consisted of pre- and postexperience examinations, …

During its first few deployments, the mobile observatory has captured unique observations. Among them are vertical air motion measurements along the faces of the supertall One Vanderbilt skyscraper in Manhattan, NY which are shown to hold information critical to improving our understanding of the role of buildings in the ventilation of heat, pollution, and contaminants in urban street channels. Also, air temperature measurements collected during travel along a transect between Suffolk County and Manhattan, NY offer a high-resolution view of the urban heat island and reveal that temperature disparities also exist within the urban dome across different communities.

Datasets
The abstract of the draft article that the datasets come from states:
In democratic societies the role of the education system is seen as crucially important to their development. It is critical in structuring society and in the value of its human and social capital. In particular, the role played by the education system in the creation and reproduction of the governing elites, and its countervailing potential to create a more meritocratic and egalitarian society has been an enduring topic of concern, research and debate. However, many of these debates have been rendered opaque by an inability to quantitatively examine, …

Barriers And Facilitators To Implementation Of A Preschool Outcome Measure: An Interview Study With Speech-Language Pathologists, Elaine Yl Kwok, Sheila Tf Moodie, Barbara Jane Cunningham, Janis Oram Cardy
Paediatrics Publications
Introduction: The Preschool Speech and Language Program in Ontario, Canada implemented the Focus on the Outcomes of Communication Under Six (FOCUS), an outcome measure, in 2012. This study aimed to investigate commonly experienced facilitators of and barriers to implementing the FOCUS in clinical practice from the perspectives of speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Methods: Thirty-seven SLPs participated in semi-structured interviews to share their experiences adopting the FOCUS in clinical practice. A deductive content analysis of interview transcripts was conducted using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF), followed by an inductive analysis to identify sub-themes within each domain. Results: SLPs frequently encountered barriers within …

Pancreatitis is a debilitating disease involving inflammation and fibrosis of the exocrine pancreas. Recurrent or chronic forms of pancreatitis are a significant risk factor for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. While genetic factors have been identified for both pathologies, environmental stresses play a large role in their etiology. All cells have adapted mechanisms to handle acute environmental stress that alters energy demands. A common pathway involved in the stress response involves endoplasmic reticulum stress and the unfolded protein response (UPR). While rapidly activated by many external stressors, in the pancreas the UPR plays a fundamental biological role, likely due to the high …
Supporting An Equity And Youth Focused Approach To Indigenous Youth Homelessness, Rachel Radyk
Supporting An Equity And Youth Focused Approach To Indigenous Youth Homelessness, Rachel Radyk
2022 Cohort
This research aimed to implement the EQUIP Equity-oriented health care (EOHC) model within the Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) organization to limit and prevent Indigenous youth homelessness.
As an Indigenous-focused intervention project, this study was in the early development phase of ensuring authentic participation of Indigenous youth and ensuring tools are well adapted to the context. Our project activities supported this beginning work. We used a variety of methods, including one on one interviews with YOU staff and youth and surveys that have been adapted to capture culturally relevant information regarding Indigenous youth. The plan is to recruit youth to form …

2022 Cohort
“Community Based Research in Indigenous Studies” is a collaboratively taught course rooted in the philosophy of the Anishinaabeg, who have long called this territory bordering the Great Lakes home. A key component of this course involves reintroducing flora to Deshkan Ziibi, who travels through Western campus. My interest in growing and learning about these plant beings coincides with my upbringing along the Kaniatarowanneneh, which contains multitudes of relationships within the mass of biodiversity it hosts. To harbor a connection between the land and myself, my family would tell me about the relationships of beings around us, which I noticed was …
