This type of journeying fashion is seen in the literary works of many English writers such as Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Arthur Conan Doyle and many others. Globalization And Loss: Place, Displacements And Binary In Olu Obafemi’S Wheels, Jonah Caleb Monday Jan 2023

Globalization And Loss: Place, Displacements And Binary In Olu Obafemi’S Wheels, Jonah Caleb Monday

Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

One of the central mantras of globalization, from the purview of the West and other self-acclaimed first world countries, is the need to take progressive and innovative ideas and thoughts to third and fourth world countries for all-round economic, political, social, and intellectual development and reinforcement. This very idea of globalization, by contrast, engenders displacements of identity and place and this has formed the core of critical reflection in postcolonial ecocriticism; that is, the idea of achieving a global community, from a western ideological construct, implicitly accounts for the depletion of the natural environment. Therefore, globalization becomes double critique since …

Developing A Web-Based System For Remote Collection And Analysis Of Vehicle Electrical Systems Over Canbus Using Carloop, Joshua N. Valle, Alex Columna-Fuentes Jan 2023

Developing A Web-Based System For Remote Collection And Analysis Of Vehicle Electrical Systems Over Canbus Using Carloop, Joshua N. Valle, Alex Columna-Fuentes

Capstone Showcase

Our program collects vehicle data using an OBD-II device called Carloop that is plugged into the vehicle's diagnostic port. The device executes our code which then communicates with the vehicle's onboard computer to collect data such as engine RPM, vehicle speed, fuel level, and other diagnostic information. This data is then sent over WiFi to Particle’s Cloud, which is a platform for managing IoT devices.

Integrations set up on Particle take care of sending data to our InfluxDB Database, which is hosted on our own cloud-based machine. InfluxDB is a high-performance time-series database that is optimized for storing and querying …

Postdigital Time, Derek R. Ford Jan 2023

Postdigital Time, Derek R. Ford

Education Studies Faculty publications

The “postdigital” is an inherently temporal concept, yet, along with the postdigital itself, the temporality of the postdigital remains open. With few exceptions, by rejecting the idea that the “postdigital” comes right after the “digital” in a successive manner, most scholars interpret the temporality of the concept in a way that is admittedly blurry and indeterminate. This opens various lines of inquiry. How should we understand and relate to postdigital time, including the role digital technologies play in it? What are the constraints it imposes on our imagination of the future and present? How does it naturalize the contemporary order?

Marx And Technology, Derek R. Ford Jan 2023

Marx And Technology, Derek R. Ford

Education Studies Faculty publications

The revolutionary changes in digital technologies that ushered in the postdigital context originate with the industrial machinery Karl Marx and his collaborator and comrade Friedrich Engels observed and analysed in the mid to late 1800s. Their approach sees technology as neither neutral nor deterministic, but as one site of contestation and struggle among others in the overall totality of capital. The matter at hand is the class whose interests guide the production, distribution, and consumption of technologies.

Concordance Of International Regulation Of Pediatric Health Research, Ellen W. Clayton, Mark A. Rothstein Jd, Et Al. Jan 2023

Concordance Of International Regulation Of Pediatric Health Research, Ellen W. Clayton, Mark A. Rothstein Jd, Et Al.

Vanderbilt Law School Faculty Publications

International, multi-site, pediatric health research has shown great promise by vastly increasing the amount and heterogeneity of biospecimens and clinical records. However, considerable impediments are created by the significant costs and delays associated with obtaining regulatory approval in numerous countries, which is often complicated by varying and sometimes opaque research ethics standards and procedures. Although it is unlikely that the global community could reach consensus on a single set of research ethics policies and procedures, voluntary policy pronouncements by countries agreeing to defer to the approval of research ethics bodies in other countries might be a way forward.

Deference is …
