Issues In Front-End Engineering Of Cmos Nanoelectronics, Xiaolong Yang

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Several issues exist in current CMOS front-end engineering such as interfacial layer formation at high-k/Si interface, high metal/Si contact resistance in source and drain regions, and absence of a quantitative model for silicon-germanium alloy growth. In this dissertation, monolayer Se passivation is employed to create a Si (100) surface free of dangling bonds. Since dangling bonds are the origins of surface reaction sites and surface states, interfacial layer formation at high-k/Si interface can be suppressed and metal/Si contact resistance can be lowered by Se passivation. Firstly, results on interface engineering between HfO2 and n-type Si (100) with Se passivation are …

Deception And Emotion: The Effects Of Motivation, Relationship Type, And Sex On Expected Feelings Of Guilt And Shame Following Acts Of Deception In United States And Chinese Samples, John S. Seiter, Jon Bruschke Feb 2007

Deception And Emotion: The Effects Of Motivation, Relationship Type, And Sex On Expected Feelings Of Guilt And Shame Following Acts Of Deception In United States And Chinese Samples, John S. Seiter, Jon Bruschke

Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies Faculty Publications

This study explored whether people expect to experience guilt and shame following acts of deception, and whether such expectations are mediated by the deceivers' motivation, culture, sex, and/or the type of relationship between the deceiver and deceived. Students from China and the United States imagined themselves in several deception scenarios and rated the degree to which they would expect to experience guilt and shame following the deception. The scenarios depicted messages told for different reasons (e.g., to avoid conflict, to appear better) and with various relational partners (e.g., friends, spouses, strangers). Results indicated that motive, culture, and relationship affect emotional …

Production Of Bio-Hydrogen By Mesophilic Anaerobic Fermentation In An Acid-Phase Sequencing Batch Reactor, D. Y. Cheong, C. L. Hansen, David King Stevens

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

The pH and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR) were varied to optimize the conversion of carbohydrate-rich synthetic wastewater into bio-hydrogen. A full factorial design using evolutionary operation (EVOP) was used to determine the effect of the factors and to find the optimum condition of each factor required for high hydrogen production rate. Experimental results from 20 runs indicate that a maximum hydrogen production rate of 4,460-5,540 mL/L/day under the volumetric organic loading rate (VOLR) of 75 g-COD/L/day obtained at an observed design point of HRT = 8 h and pH = 5.7. The hydrogen …

Inference Of Node And Edge Replacement Graph Grammars, Jacek Kukluk Feb 2007

Inference Of Node And Edge Replacement Graph Grammars, Jacek Kukluk

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

In this dissertation we study the inference of node and edge replacement graph grammars. The approach is based on previous research in frequent isomorphic subgraphs discovery. We extend the search for frequent subgraphs by checking for overlap among the instances of the subgraphs in the input graph. If subgraphs overlap by one node, we propose a node replacement graph grammar production. If subgraphs overlap by two nodes or two nodes and an edge, we propose an edge replacement graph grammar production. We also can infer a hierarchy of productions by compressing portions of a graph described by a production and …

Vision-Based Ability Of An Ant-Mimicking Jumping Spider To Discriminate Between Models, Conspecific Individuals And Prey, X. J. Nelson, R. R. Jackson

All Peer-Reviewed Publications

Myrmarachne assimilis, an ant-like (myrmecomorphic) jumping spider (Araneae, Salticidae) from the Philippines, is a Batesian mimic of Oecophylla smaragdina, the Asian weaver ant. Salticids are well known for their acute eyesight and the elaborate vision-based display behaviour they adopt during encounters with conspecific individuals, but most salticids are not myrmecomorphic. Despite its unusual morphology, M. assimilis adopts display behaviour during intraspecific interactions that is similar to the display behaviour of more typical salticids. The specificity with which M. assimilis deploys display behaviour is investigated and provides insights into this mimic's ability to differentiate, by sight alone, between models, conspecific individuals …

Estimation Of Dry Deposition Of Atmospheric Mercury In Nevada By Direct And Indirect Methods, Seth N. Lyman, Mae Sexauer Gustin, Eric M. Prestbo, Frank J. Marsik

USU Uintah Basin Faculty Publications

Atmospheric models and limited measurements indicate that dry deposition of atmospheric mercury is an important process by which mercury is input to ecosystems. To begin to fill the measurement data gap, multiple methods were used simultaneously during seasonal campaigns conducted in 2005 and 2006 to estimate dry deposition of atmospheric mercury at two Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) sites in rural Nevada and in Reno, Nevada. Gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0), reactive gaseous mercury (RGM), and particulate-bound mercury (Hgp) concentrations were measured using Tekran 2537A/1130/1135 systems. These speciated measurements were combined with on-site meteorological measurements to estimate depositional fluxes of RGM and …

Economy-Wide Estimates Of The Implications Of Climate Change: A Joint Analysis For Sea Level Rise And Tourism, Francesco Bosello , Andrea Bigano, Roberto Roson, Richard S.J. Tol

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

Climate change impacts on human life have well defined and different origins, nevertheless in the determination of their final effects, especially those involving social-economic responses, interactions among impacts are likely to play an important role. This paper is one of the first attempts to disentangle and highlight the role of these interactions. It focuses on the economic assessment of two specific climate change impacts: sea-level rise and changes in tourism flows. By using a CGE model the two impacts categories are first analyzed separately and then jointly. Comparing the results it is shown that, even though qualitatively joint effects follow …
