Computing Best Coverage Path In The Presence Of Obstacles In Wireless Sensor Networks, Senjuti Basu Roy Apr 2007

Computing Best Coverage Path In The Presence Of Obstacles In Wireless Sensor Networks, Senjuti Basu Roy

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Given a set S = {S1,...,Sn} of n homogeneous wireless sensors deployed in a two dimensional area, a source point s and a destination point t, the least protected point p along a path (s,t) is that point such that the Euclidean distance between p and its closest sensor node Si is maximum. This distance between p and S_{i} is called the Cover value of the path P(s,t). The Best Coverage Path between s and t, denoted as BCP(s,t), is the path that has the minimum cover value. Although there exists efficient algorithms to compute BCP in O(n log n) …

A Random Walk Approach To Sampling Hidden Databases, Arjun Dasgupta Apr 2007

A Random Walk Approach To Sampling Hidden Databases, Arjun Dasgupta

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

A large part of the data on the World Wide Web is hidden behind form-like interfaces. These interfaces interact with a hidden back-end database to provide answers to user queries. Generating a uniform random sample of this hidden database by using only the publicly available interface gives us access to the underlying data distribution. In this thesis, we propose a random walk scheme over the query space provided by the interface to sample such databases. We discuss variants where the query space is visualized as a fixed and random ordering of attributes. We also propose techniques to further improve the …

A Functional Link Network Using Ordered Basis Functions, Saurabh Sureka Apr 2007

A Functional Link Network Using Ordered Basis Functions, Saurabh Sureka

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

A new function approximation and classification network based on Functional Link Network (FLN) with orthonormal Polynomial Basis Functions (PBF) is presented. By using an iterative Gram-Schmidt procedure, the PBF's are orthonormalized, ordered and selected based on their contribution to minimize the Mean Square Error (MSE). Linearly dependent and less useful PBF are detected and eliminated at an early stage thereby improving the approximation capabilities and reducing the possibility of combinatorial explosion. The number of passes through the data during network training is minimized through the use of correlations. A one-pass method is used for validation and network sizing. Equivalent function …

Regulating Waste Discharge With Fuzzy Effluent Limitations For Toxic Pollutants, Tong Yin, David King Stevens Apr 2007

Regulating Waste Discharge With Fuzzy Effluent Limitations For Toxic Pollutants, Tong Yin, David King Stevens

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

Many traditional water quality standards are based on extreme percentiles; often, there is the risk of making wrong decisions with these standards because of high estimation uncertainty. Standards expressed as fuzzy intervals in the form of [trigger, enforcement limitation] make it possible to control the risks for the discharger and the consumer simul taneously. With fuzzy interval compliance, corrective action is initiated when the trigger is exceeded; noncompliance is declared when the en forcement limitation is exceeded. Fuzzy intervals would digest the risks that are inherent when a single enforcement limitation is used to determine compliance; the risks can be …

The silicon and oxygen concentrations were varied in a parametric investigation of the dependence of the electrical and optical characteristics of the thin films on …

Dynamic Voltage Restorer For Sensitive Equipment, Yea Zong Kuo Mar 2007

Dynamic Voltage Restorer For Sensitive Equipment, Yea Zong Kuo

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Voltage sags are considered to be the most frequent type of disturbances in the field based on recent power disturbances studies. Their impact on sensitive loads is severe. The impact ranges from load disruptions to substantial economic losses. Despite the technical advances in electronics, there are still some pieces of equipment that are so sensitive that they are unable to withstand voltage sags. An example is the equipment in semiconductor manufacturing. As a result, there is still a search for different ways to manage voltage sags. There are many different methods to mitigate voltage sags, but a CUstom Power Supply …

On Whittaker Modules Over A Class Of Algebras Similar To U(Sl 2), Xin Tang Mar 2007

On Whittaker Modules Over A Class Of Algebras Similar To U(Sl 2), Xin Tang

College of Health, Science, and Technology

Motivated by the study of invariant rings of finite groups on the first Weyl algebras A 1 and finding interesting families of new noetherian rings, a class of algebras similar to U(sl 2) was introduced and studied by Smith. Since the introduction of these algebras, research efforts have been focused on understanding their weight modules, and many important results were already obtained. But it seems that not much has been done on the part of nonweight modules. In this paper, we generalize Kostant's results on the Whittaker model for the universal enveloping algebras U(g) of finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebras …
