Evaluation Of Iso 18000-6 Type C Class 1 Generation 2 Rfid Protocol Artifacts, Nikhil Ayer

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

In this thesis, we have identified the effect on the performance of the RFID system when ISO 18000-6 Class 1 Gen 2 RFID protocol's parameters are changed. The protocol parameters we considered changing for the conformance testing are Tari, operating frequency, pulse width and modulation index at the constant transmitted power. The range of frequencies used in the experiments does fall outside the specification of ISO 18000-6 Type-C Class-1 Gen-2 protocol; but the power transmited by the RFID reader is under the FCC regulations. The research gives the detail behavior of the RFID signal propagation both from the reader to …

Nonrigid Image Registration By The Deformation Based Grid Generation, Chih-Yao Hsieh Jan 2008

Nonrigid Image Registration By The Deformation Based Grid Generation, Chih-Yao Hsieh

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

A novel nonrigid image registration algorithm is developed using a well-established mathematic work known as deformation based grid generation. The deformation based grid generation is capable to generate a grid free of mesh folding, which is achieved by devising a positive monitor function describing the anticipated grid point density in the computational domain. Based on this method, a novel nonrigid image registration algorithm is successfully developed with many interesting features. First of all, the functional to be optimized during the image registration process consists of only one term — the similarity term. Thus, no regularization functional is required in this …

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Due to the increasing number of independent data providers on the web, there is a growing number of web applications that require searching and querying data sources distributed at different locations over the internet. Since XML is rapidlygaining in popularity as a universal data format for data exchange and integration, locating and ranking distributed XML data on the web are gaining importance in the database community. Most of existing XML indexing techniques combine structure indexes and inverted lists extracted from XML documents to fully evaluate a full-text query against these indexes and return the actual XML fragments of the query …

Regridding In Nonrigid Image Registration, Ting-Hung Lin Jan 2008

Regridding In Nonrigid Image Registration, Ting-Hung Lin

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Regridding was first introduced in viscous fluid registration for preventing folding of the transformation and for maintaining the admissible deformation field in large-deformation nonrigid image registration applications. We investigated the application of regridding to leading nonrigid image registration algorithms, including elastic, fluid, diffusion, curvature, and demons algorithms, and compared the performance and accuracy in each case.We also introduce a grid repairing mechanism based on the adaptive grid-generation method to prevent the transformation from folding. The grid repairing method can be used in conjunction with the proposed regridding scheme to set bounds on the Jacobian determinant of the transformation. We showed …

Computational Analysis Of Structure And Function Of Genomic Sequences, Abanish Singh Jan 2008

Computational Analysis Of Structure And Function Of Genomic Sequences, Abanish Singh

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

The genetic code consists of long chains of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) present in every cell of a living organism. These chains contain both functional and non-functional DNA sequences, and their proportion in the mix varies widely along the tree of life. Generally, more complex organisms tend to feature large amounts of "junk" DNA, whose importance is still subject of a debate in the scientific circles. The functional sequences include coding sequences (genes) and various types of signals, mostly, but not exclusively, controlling the regulation of coding sequences, i.e. activating and deactivating the expression of genes, during the developmental stage, in …

Political Science Theses - Archive

The media plays an interesting and intricate role in the election process. Theinformation the media presents to voters is used by voters to form opinions on candidates and issues. As a result, voters take these opinions into the voting booths with them. Female candidates running for elected office often find themselves being treated differently by the media than the male candidates they are running against. Previous research has indicated that female candidates receive less overall coverage than their male counterparts. In addition, themedia often chooses to focus on female candidates' personal lives, personality, and horserace positions more so than male …

How Maps Tell The Truth By Lying, Andrew M. Balash Jan 2008

How Maps Tell The Truth By Lying, Andrew M. Balash

History Theses - Archive

Maps do more than simply record geographical locations: maps link locations to the past and present, and even propose future possibilities. Maps graphically display information (or data) that is at once geographic, economic, political, social, scientific, and religious and they can be a starting point for the study of past cultures. Through careful analysis, including the conscious and subconscious selections of map-makers, maps reveal a perception of the world that is as fascinating as it is complex. This is the subjective vision of the world buried beneath the seemingly "objective" façade of the map--the hidden story that the cartographer did …

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) represent one of the major cellular mechanisms to diversify the limited number of proteins coded by genome. They provide dynamic regulation of protein functions and the means to fine-tune protein functions in response to the changing cellular environment and physiological conditions. Despite their crucial roles in cellular functions, efficient and sensitive analysis of PTMs remains a daunting analytical challenge. Traditional chemical approaches to characterize PTMs are labor-intensive and time-consuming, often with low sensitivity and specificity. Over the past ten years, biological mass spectrometry has emerged as an indispensable tool to identify and characterize PTMs. Mass spectrometry-based proteomic …

Feasibility Study Of An Ultra Fast Gated Camera To Image Biliary Tree Embedded In Adipose Tissue Using Laboratory Phantoms And Monte Carlo Simulations, Nimit Lalitkumar Patel Jan 2008

Feasibility Study Of An Ultra Fast Gated Camera To Image Biliary Tree Embedded In Adipose Tissue Using Laboratory Phantoms And Monte Carlo Simulations, Nimit Lalitkumar Patel

Bioengineering Theses - Archive

Every year, approximately 500,000 cholecystectomies are performed in US. As biliary tree structures are embedded in adipose tissue, they cannot be visualized directly by the surgeon, which causes inadvertent injuries to the common bile duct, vein and artery during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Thus there is an urge for an imaging modality which could see biliary tree structure through fatty tissue. Successful clinical implementation of an imaging system which could attain this goal would reduce surgical time, improve patient safety and minimize the risk of complications and expenses attributable to the current standard practice of intraoperative cholecystectomy. It is hoped that …

Automated Quantification Of White Matter Hyperintensity Burden Using Mprage And Flair Images From A Large Population, Keith Mcleod Hulsey

Bioengineering Theses - Archive

White Matter Hyperintensity(WMH) burden, as observed in T2 and proton weighted MR images, is associated with several health factors such as decreased cognitive ability, hypertension, diabetes and cerebrovascular disease. An algorithm was developed to automatically estimate WMH burden from pairs of MPRAGE and FLAIR images which is robust and requires essentially no operator involvement. The WMH burden estimation generated by this fully automated algorithm has been shown to correlate well with known risk factors for WMH burden.

The Evolutionary History And Genomic Impact Of Mammalian Dna Transposons, John Kelly Pace

Biology Dissertations - Archive

Transposable elements (TEs) are mobile repetitive sequences that make up large fractions of mammalian genomes, including at least 45% of the human genome. Class 2, or DNA intermediate transposons, which make up approximately 3% of human nuclear DNA, have typically been overlooked in analyses of mammalian genomes and therefore remain poorly understood. Here, we carried out the first large-scale analysis of the evolutionary history of DNA transposons throughout eutherian mammal evolution. The analysis included 18 mammals from all major branches of the eutherian tree including Afrotheria, Laurasiatheria, primates, rodents and Xenarthra. We combined three different computational methods: average divergence of …

Development Of Optical Fiber Sensors For Distance, Refractive Index And Strain Measurement, Ayan Majumdar Jan 2008

Development Of Optical Fiber Sensors For Distance, Refractive Index And Strain Measurement, Ayan Majumdar

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses - Archive

This thesis is focused on the development of optical fiber based sensors for the measurement of distance, refractive index, and strain. The fabrication, implementation, analysis, and evaluation of the sensors are presented. The Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometric (EFPI) distance sensor is one of the most popular distance sensors but it possesses an inherent drawback. When the free-space cavity distance is very small, the numbers of fringes generated are not sufficient for the distance demodulation algorithm; therefore the smallest distance it can measure is determined by the bandwidth of the light source. An optical fiber based distance sensor is developed in this …
