The traditional Le Fort level 1 osteotomy has proven to be an effective in approaching central skull base lesions. The challenge being - stabilization of the down-fractured maxilla in an amenable position for tumour resection. Abstract: Secondary correction for aesthetic purposes can be more challenging as the fractured segments may be united in abnormal positions and would require osteotomy procedures before mobilizing the segments for reconstruction. Such maneuvers require adequate exposure and visibility. The subcranial approach is an effective alternate to classical approaches, which required frontal lobe retraction. Conclusion: Subcranial approach is a viable alternative to posttraumatic deformity of frontal bone.

The mitochondrial disorder–Leigh syndrome is a neurodegenerative disorder often manifested with brainstem abnormalities. The case report highlights the auditory brainstem response in a child with medical findings suggestive of Leigh syndrome. The case report also emphasizes the importance of ruling out any underlying neural pathology before making a clinical impression in children with developmental delays.

Slow-releasing carbohydrates may delay the effects of fatigue after exhaustive exercise. The purpose of this study was to observe the influence that hydrothermally modified starches (HMS) and traditional maltodextrin (MAL) supplements had on physical endurance and mental performance following exhaustive exercise. Male participants completed a VO2 max and 2 days of cycling sessions using a Velotron ergometer. Cycling sessions were performed at 70% of the VO2 max workload for 150 min. Supplements were consumed 30 min before cycling and during exercise at the 120-min mark (1 g CHO/kg body weight). Brain activity was measured using a Neuroscan 64-channel electroencephalogram cap. …

Myoepitheliomas are uncommon neoplasms of major and minor salivary glands. These tumours are encapsulated and slow growing in nature and are benign in majority of the cases. The mean age of presentation is 40 years and this entity is rarely reported in younger age groups. Here, we seek to report a rare case of a 10-year-old patient who presented with a swelling below the right ear. Clinical and radiological evaluation revealed a mass in the parotid gland. This patient was treated with a superficial parotidectomy and subsequent histopathological examination revealed it to be a myoepithelioma.

Cystic neck masses in adolescents pose a diagnostic challenge as they be neoplastic or non-neoplastic, congenital, inflammatory, or infectious. Detailed history and examination, anatomical location of the lesion may help narrow down the differential diagnosis of such masses. Cervical thymic cysts contribute to less than 1% cystic lesions in the neck. We present one such case and our management strategy.

Elevated bilirubin levels in neonates are commonly seen both physiologically and in pathological conditions. There are few articles describing the effects of elevated bilirubin levels on the auditory system. The objectives of this paper was to study the prevalence of hearing impairment in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia and assess outcome/reversibility of hearing impairment in these neonates with follow-up hearing evaluation. This was a prospective single centre, case control study. Cases: neonates, total bilirubin levels >15 mg/dl. Controls: <15 mg/dl. Exclusion criteria included neonates with neonatal hypoxia, intrauterine infections, sepsis or meningitis, infants with a family history of hearing loss, low birth weight, ototoxic medications, external and middle ear pathology. Otoacoustic emission testing (OAE) was done at birth. Neonates who fail OAE were advised follow up with Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) after 2 months. Neonates having abnormal BERA waves were called for follow up at 6 months. Out of 57 cases, 3 had failed OAE and had normal BERA waves on follow up at 2 months. Out of 60 controls, 5 had failed OAE and follow up BERA for 3 patients were normal and 2 babies were lost to follow up. No statistical significance in hearing impairment in hyperbilirubinemia v/s normal babies was noted. Elevated bilirubin levels in the absence of any other risk factors may not show significant changes in the hearing screening. Some effect owing to the p value close to being significant in cases has been noted. The same may not contribute to permanent hearing impairment as first OAE changes may be transient and seem to revert with age.

To study adenoid tissue eosinophilia in allergic rhinitis. A single-centre clinical case–control prospective study with 66 subjects enrolled for the study after taking written informed consent from all the participants. All patients underwent adenoidectomy with histopathological evaluation of adenoid tissue samples for eosinophils. 36 patients (cases) with Symptoms for Allergic Rhinitis (SFAR) score indicative of allergic rhinitis. 30 patients (control) with SFAR scores not indicative of allergic rhinitis. All patients were evaluated for serum absolute eosinophil count and total serum immunoglobulin E (Ig-E). The dataset employed for delineating glacier boundaries in the Western United States comprises a compilation of original Sentinel-2 images obtained from the European Space Agency's Copernicus website. These images were instrumental in generating the glacier inventory. Additionally, the dataset includes a Python and R script specifically crafted for processing and classifying Sentinel images. The outcome of this process is represented in an ESRI shapefile, which contains an inventory of glaciers extracted from Sentinel images.

We report an attractive update to the demonstration of acid–base buffer action that is appropriate for ease of use and getting attention in the classroom. The twist is based on new fluorophore information and the recent availability of UV flashlights serving as an ideal, portable excitation light source. The pH-dependent fluorescence comes from a choice among three natural sources, namely narra tree wood extract, kidneywood extract, and scopoletin, which is a purchasable coumarin, that all perform equally well. We provide practical details for performing the buffer demonstration at scales of 100 and 1000 mL and give background information for context.

We developed spatiotemporal landslide hazard maps (LHMs) using soil, hydrologic, and geomorphic parameters from the subaerial infinite slope factor of safety (FS) equation under unsaturated conditions. Soil properties were extracted from the NRCS WSS, while geomorphic variables were derived from a 1.5 m LiDAR-based DEM and ArcGIS Online. Soil moisture from Hydrus-1D, driven by precipitation and evapotranspiration (ET) data from Irrigation Manager, introduced temporal variability. Validation against known landslide sites showed spatial and temporal FS accuracy despite some false positives. Purpose: This study aims to identify the factors that could explain the intention to use Paytech services within an Islamic banking context. The authors use an extended version of the technology acceptance model to develop a causal–predictive analysis. Design/methodology/approach: The research model and hypotheses were tested by applying partial least square-structured equation modeling to data collected from 214 users of Islamic banking in Saudi Arabia. Findings: The results show that perceived trust has a highly significant direct effect on the intention to use Islamic Paytech services, whereas perceived risk has a significant indirect effect on IU. Energy balance models (EBMs), alongside radiative–convective climate models and global climate models (GCMs), are useful tools for simulating planetary climates. Historically, planetary and exoplanetary EBMs have nearly all been 1D latitudinally dependent models with no longitudinal dependence. PlaHab is the first EBM that can simulate N₂–CO₂–H₂O–H₂ atmospheres of both rapidly and synchronously rotating planets, including Mars, Earth, and exoplanets located within their circumstellar habitable zones. We incorporated Espaloma forcefield parameterization into MoSDeF tools for performing molecular dynamics simulations of organic molecules with HOOMD-Blue. We compared equilibrium morphologies predicted for perylene and poly-3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) with the ESP-UA forcefield in the present work against prior work using the OPLS-UA forcefield. We found that, after resolving the chemical ambiguities in molecular topologies, ESP-UA is similar to GAFF. We observed the clustering/melting phase behavior to be similar between ESP-UA and OPLS-UA, but the base energy unit of OPLS-UA was found to better connect to experimentally measured transition temperatures. The TexCot22 dataset is a set of cotton crop video sequences for training and testing multi-object tracking methods. Each tracking sequence is 10 to 20 seconds in length. The dataset contains of a total of 30 sequences of which 17 are for training and the remaining 13 are for testing. Among the training sequences, 2 of them consist of roughly 5,000 annotated images, which can be used to train a cotton boll detection model.
