Vitex Agnus castus (VAC) berries, known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, may alleviate CP-induced renal toxicity. To investigate the gender-specific responses to cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity and evaluate VAC extract's nephroprotective effects. Four-month-old Wistar rats (n=36) (24 male, 12 female) were used. In phase 1, gender-based differences in CP-induced nephrotoxicity were assessed. The gender group with higher nephrotoxicity was selected for phase 2 to evaluate VAC's nephroprotective properties. Animals were randomly grouped as Normal Control (6 males & 6 females), CP …

Background: Though rare, benign lesions that usually do not necessitate active intervention, osteomas of the external auditory canal, can be troublesome when they start to produce mass effect and severe obstruction to the external auditory canal. Even more insidious is the rarer phenomenon of canal wall cholesteatomas, which have been known to cause significant canal erosion and if left unchecked and spontaneous destruction of the adjacent anatomical structures, including the facial nerve, temporomandibular joint, sigmoid sinus, and skull base. The occurrence of both these exceptionally uncommon findings in the same canal is an unusual finding and may point to an …

Cognitive impairment is a prevalent co-morbidity associated with epilepsy. Emerging studies indicate that neuroinflammation could be a possible link between epilepsy and its comorbidities, including cognitive impairment. In this context, the roles of glial activation, proinflammatory mediators, and neuronal death have been well studied and correlated with epilepsy-associated cognitive impairment in animal studies. While recent reports have demonstrated the anti-epileptogenic and anti-convulsant actions of metformin, its effect on epilepsy associated cognitive deficit remains unknown. Therefore, the current study investigated the effect of metformin treatment on neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and cognitive deficits after inducing status epilepticus (SE) with lithium-pilocarpine in rats. Metformin …
