Digital repositories most often collect traditional materials, such as theses, articles and images that do not require unique workflows or practices. The first talk discusses how his library dealt with nontraditional materials such as 3D models, embeddable media, student exhibits, and other unique works. For faculty who know what service they want, this approach works well; however, often we find faculty do not know where to start. Recently, we launched a new companion site, focused on faculty issues and pedagogies that lead to technology use. This session will invite participants to explore the site and provide feedback.

This slideshow covers different ways of answering the question “Why open access?” It reviews the knee-jerk reactions many people have when they hear about open access, describes the many benefits of open access, invokes @openaccesshulk’s strategy of SMASH, and discusses what arguments work best with different populations (students, faculty, administrators, etc.). Finally, it addresses why librarians should try to talk about open access without resorting to constant use of the term “open access” and describes a few ways to sneak open access advocacy into other conversations.

Whose To Use? And Use As They Choose? Creative Commons Licenses In Wikipedia And Scholarly Publishing, Jill Cirasella

Unlike traditional scholarly journals, Wikipedia and open access journals do not ask contributors to sign away their rights. Contributors to these venues retain the right to copy, distribute, and reuse their own words and works. This presentation takes a careful look at the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (used by Wikipedia) and the Creative Commons Attribution License (used by many open access publishers).

Has your institution tried remote Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) or Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) without success? Ours has too. Initially, we had little success with remote CART and VRI on our campus. In this session, remote CART and VRI will be described, and our problem-solving approach will be explained. The challenges in using these services on a large campus are identified. We will describe a hardware change that started us on the road to success. Applied Behavior Analysis (SPED 432) and Intervention Strategies for Literacy (SPED 431)

This poster provides examples to implement behavior contracting strategies in K-12 classrooms. These behavior contracting strategies will facilitate improved student behavior. Behavioral contracting refers to a written contract that describes a child’s behavioral obligations. In addition, reinforcers (teachers’ or parents’ obligations) are outlined for when the child has met the contract’s conditions. In research conducted by Cutrell (2010) middle-school students with emotional behavior disorders (EBD) were examined. The research demonstrated that behavioral contracts decreased the participants’ targeted, inappropriate behavior. As part of the LEEP project we repaired the Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and wrote a user manual on using AFM. Then we scanned Self Assembly of Copolymer Films collaboration with Prof. Sergio Granados –Focil and Copper Oxide Nanocubes with Professor Prof.Luis Smith.

Presentation describes bringing a display of student scholarship to Penfield Library at SUNY Oswego. Two science librarians approached faculty members regarding potential participation and then organized a showcase of science research inside the library. Having research posters displayed in a visible, central, and active location allows the broader campus community to view the latest research from students and faculty. Reaching out to science faculty reminds them that librarians can help with their library needs, and that the library is a place to highlight their and their students’ research.

Librarian and faculty collaborations are the most essential component of any successful information literacy program. How can librarians entice faculty to collaborate? A wide range of outreach strategies have been chronicled in the literature, including brown bag lunch discussions, faculty focus groups, librarian-faculty grants, librarian participation in faculty governance, and workshops. Collaboration can also occur as a result of accreditation or program review requirements.
