The work emphasizes supporting instructors across varying levels of readiness, using data collection (e.g., faculty engagement and survey feedback) to inform continuous improvement. Findings suggest that structured support and experimentation can increase AI integration in course design and better prepare students for AI-influenced professional environments.

This session positions AI tools as a mechanism for supporting students with learning and attention differences grounded in theories of distributed cognition. It distinguishes cognitive barriers arising from peripheral demands from those related to conceptual understanding and higher cognitive tasks. Drawing on scaffolding, cognitive offloading, and translation, the session argues for equity through intentional task design rather than individual exception. It concludes by examining the pedagogical trade-offs between AI-supported cognition and the pursuit of tool-independent mastery.

AI-based mental health chatbots are increasingly being introduced to expand access to psychological support, especially where stigma, cost, scheduling constraints, or limited availability make traditional therapy services difficult to use. Firearm injuries are a leading cause of death among children and adolescents in the United States, with firearm access primarily occurring within the home (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2026). Secure firearm storage is key to preventing firearm-related injuries, yet 309 many parents lack access to education and resources that support safe storage practices. Purpose: Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and InBody (IB) machines are commonly used in research to measure body composition. We sought to evaluate the agreement of these two devices with a change in hydration status. Methods: Twenty-Three (12 females) (mean ± SD; age, 22.6 ± 2.3yrs; height, 169.1 ± 9.2cm; weight, 80.4 ± 35.03 kg) participants were recruited for a hydration intervention study. Each participant collected their urine over a 24-hr period to assess osmolality (UOSMO) and volume (UVOL), as well as body composition assessments using DEXA and IB before (PRE) and after (POST) the intervention. Purpose: Countermovement Jump (CMJ) performance can provide insight into the force production capabilities relative to the individuals ability during a dynamic task. In conjunction with power output during a CMJ, few investigations have looked to identify the influence of relative strength on these types of tasks. This research aims to establish a link between the relative strength (RS) of an athlete and CMJ performance in jump height (JH) and force production values that were surveyed. UMB Healey Librarians Lydia Burrage-Goodwin and Christine Moynihan talk about what experiences they have had with faculty using OER and AI, which led them to develop ethics guidelines to support librarians who work with faculty authors. Attendees learned about creating AI use statements for OERs, using AI transparency logos, and applying open licenses to fully AI generated content as well as OER adaptations.

Mechanically ventilated patients who are boarding in rural emergency departments face an increased risk of inconsistent sedation management due to the lack of standardized protocols and the extended transfer times to higher levels of care. The variability in sedation practices can lead to both under- and over-sedation, which negatively affects patient comfort, safety, and clinical outcomes. Research suggests that sedation protocols incorporating the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) can shorten mechanical ventilation duration and improve clinical outcomes. This lightning talk centers on cross-campus partnerships as a catalyst for research translation and innovation. A health sciences librarian collaborated with members of a general academic library research team at the University of New Mexico to adapt an existing qualitative study on students’ online information evaluation for a nursing context. Rather than starting from scratch, the new team intentionally translated methods, instruments, and approaches to fit a new population and disciplinary setting. Peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs) are caused by disrupted peroxisome formation, which impairs cellular metabolism, leading to poor muscle tone, seizures, hearing and vision loss, and skeletal abnormalities. Peroxisomes are small membrane-bound organelles that perform essential synthesis, breakdown, and detoxification reactions. Peroxisomes can be created through fission, the division of existing mature peroxisomes, or de novo biogenesis. In de novo biogenesis, the endoplasmic reticulum secretes vesicles containing peroxisomal proteins (peroxins) that recruit additional peroxins to form a mature peroxisome. This project focused on the underdiagnosis of girls on the autism spectrum and the benefit of adaptive sports participation in improving motor, sensory, and social skills for this population. Occupational therapy’s role in diagnosing and treating girls displaying symptoms of autism was explored through the completion of 25 autism diagnostic evaluations and screenings. The differences in the presentation of autism in girls and women was investigated through interviews with two clinical psychologists, a survey of 17 clinicians, interviews with the parents of two girls diagnosed with autism, and an interview with 1 woman on the autism spectrum. Pelvic floor dysfunction is highly prevalent among women in the United States, and sexual health is often underaddressed in healthcare. This capstone project aimed to define the role of occupational therapists (OTs) in pelvic floor therapy and promote integration of sexual health into practice. Completed in an outpatient pelvic floor setting, the project included clinical skill development, program development, and advocacy. Interventions involved continuing education, creation of educational handouts, implementation of home exercise programs, and tracking outcomes using the PFDI-20. Additional initiatives included staff education and student training on OT’s role in pelvic health. All 12 tracked clients progressed toward …
