Cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) encompass interrelated disorders involving cardiovascular dysfunction and metabolic dysregulation. Lipoxygenase (5-, 12/15-LOX), cyclooxygenase (COX-1/2), and cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes regulate fatty acid metabolism and inflammatory signaling, significantly contributing to CMD pathogenesis. This review synthesizes recent evidence on LOX, COX, and CYP450 pathway crosstalk and evaluates their therapeutic and biomarker relevance in clinical cardiometabolic disease. A comprehensive PubMed literature search identified studies examining LOX, COX, and CYP450 enzymes inflammatory and metabolic pathways linked to CMD. In a 2023 survey done by The Author’s Guild (“Key Takeaways from the Authors Guild’s 2023 Author Income Survey”), the demographic of published authors has shifted from what many perceive to be a male dominated field–with the data collected showing that published authors are majority women, writing romance and fantasy. This survey study was conducted to see if this applies to academic creative writing, in particular, non-fiction. The study took a look at 100 writers who were published in 6 different academic literary magazines, looking at several demographics—age, gender, and sexuality. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy induces durable responses in a subset of patients with metastatic melanoma, yet determinants of efficacy remain incompletely defined. We performed integrated immunophenotypic and spatial transcriptomic profiling of TIL infusion products and matched tumor microenvironments (TMEs) from patients treated in early-phase TIL-based trials at Moffitt Cancer Center. The objective response rate was 36%, with a median progression-free survival (PFS) of 10 months. Responders exhibited infusion products enriched for CD8⁺ T cells, stem-like memory (TSCM) CD8⁺ subsets, and LAG3⁺CD8⁺ T cells, along with enhanced TIL persistence in the periphery. For over a century, Germany has utilized a three-pronged approach to secondary schooling. This includes the Gymnasium path, targeted at students preparing to enter university studies; Hauptschule, which prepares students for vocational employment; and Realschule, which bridges the gap between the two. Students are selected for these paths around ages 10-11 after completing primary schooling. Through researching German law, analyzing government-provided and privately written research data, and personal testimony from former students of the German education system, we find that the “channeling” effects of the education system produce substantial economic and social effects. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease marked by persistent airflow limitation, intensified by occupational exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, and airborne hazards. Healthcare workers and first responders operate in complex environments that may contribute to COPD development. This review evaluates occupational risk factors and prevention strategies relevant to high-risk workers. A PubMed search using the terms “COPD” and “occupational” identified 130 articles, of which 40 peer-reviewed studies were selected following relevance-based screening. The literature showed that long-term exposure to gases, fumes, vapors, and dust significantly increases COPD risk and is associated with chronic respiratory symptoms, reduced …

Effective communication during nursing handoffs is essential for safe, patient-centered care, as breakdowns in communication are a leading cause of adverse patient outcomes. At a large academic level I trauma center, inconsistent nursing handoff practices were identified across progressive care units following the COVID-19 pandemic. This variability contributed to incomplete transfer of patient information and was associated with increased patient safety incidents, including delayed wound care, central line dressing lapses, and medication errors involving high-alert therapies. This session positions AI tools as a mechanism for supporting students with learning and attention differences grounded in theories of distributed cognition. It distinguishes cognitive barriers arising from peripheral demands from those related to conceptual understanding and higher cognitive tasks. Drawing on scaffolding, cognitive offloading, and translation, the session argues for equity through intentional task design rather than individual exception. It concludes by examining the pedagogical trade-offs between AI-supported cognition and the pursuit of tool-independent mastery.

Purpose: Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and InBody (IB) machines are commonly used in research to measure body composition. We sought to evaluate the agreement of these two devices with a change in hydration status. Methods: Twenty-Three (12 females) (mean ± SD; age, 22.6 ± 2.3yrs; height, 169.1 ± 9.2cm; weight, 80.4 ± 35.03 kg) participants were recruited for a hydration intervention study. Each participant collected their urine over a 24-hr period to assess osmolality (UOSMO) and volume (UVOL), as well as body composition assessments using DEXA and IB before (PRE) and after (POST) the intervention. UMB Healey Librarians Lydia Burrage-Goodwin and Christine Moynihan talk about what experiences they have had with faculty using OER and AI, which led them to develop ethics guidelines to support librarians who work with faculty authors. Mechanically ventilated patients who are boarding in rural emergency departments face an increased risk of inconsistent sedation management due to the lack of standardized protocols and the extended transfer times to higher levels of care. The variability in sedation practices can lead to both under- and over-sedation, which negatively affects patient comfort, safety, and clinical outcomes. Research suggests that sedation protocols incorporating the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) can shorten mechanical ventilation duration and improve clinical outcomes. This lightning talk centers on cross-campus partnerships as a catalyst for research translation and innovation. A health sciences librarian collaborated with members of a general academic library research team at the University of New Mexico to adapt an existing qualitative study on students’ online information evaluation for a nursing context. Rather than starting from scratch, the new team intentionally translated methods, instruments, and approaches to fit a new population and disciplinary setting.
