Groupme Or Groupcheat? Student Perceptions And Reactions To Violations Of Academic Integrity, Andrew Manocchio, Jennifer Willard

Symposium of Student Scholars

The rise of online classrooms has brought forth new concerns about academic integrity that may not have been present in traditional brick-and-mortar classrooms. Emerging social technology, such as GroupMe, an app used to facilitate group text-messaging, has added a new dimension to academic integrity concerns. However, almost no research has been conducted examining how this technology impacts student behavior in the classroom. The current study investigates the degree to which students perceive various GroupMe conversations as including violations of academic integrity. Participants will be randomly assigned to read one of six GroupMe conversations in a 2 (type of cheating: meeting …

Universal Design For Trauma, Andrea Nikischer May 2021

Universal Design For Trauma, Andrea Nikischer

School of Education

Trauma history is an important consideration for adult educators. The majority of adults in the United States will experience trauma in their lifetime and many will suffer both short and long-term physical and/or emotional health impacts as a result. Previous research (Nikischer, 2018; Huang & Mossige, 2012; Horsman, 2002 & 2006) indicates trauma history can negatively influence educational outcomes, with implications for adult education program design and delivery. Building on the concept of “universal design” (Mace, 1998), I will outline five required components for a new universal design for trauma created specifically to address trauma history. (This PowerPoint presentation was …

Synthesis Of Library Of N-T-Boc Amino Ester, Sujit Suwal May 2021

Synthesis Of Library Of N-T-Boc Amino Ester, Sujit Suwal

School of Natural and Social Sciences

Buchwald–Hartwig Amination (BHA), which establishes C−N bonds between aryl halides and amines via Pd (0)-catalyst, has widely used as an indispensable technique in numerous basic and applied chemistry, such as syntheses of natural products, ligands, and heterocyclic molecules. The synthetic utility of Buchwald Hartwig Amination has emerged primarily due to the shortcomings of other aromatic C-N bond formation synthetic approaches due to functional group intolerance. Using BHA, a large pool of structurally and functionally diverse products can be synthesized in a single step which otherwise requires a multi-step complex synthetic method.

Recent advancements in Pyridine-Enhanced Pre-catalyst Preparation Stabilization and Initiation …

How To Estimate True Compositions Of Volatile Compounds In Headspace Determined By Solid Phase Microextraction (Hs-Spme), Joonyeong Kim May 2021

How To Estimate True Compositions Of Volatile Compounds In Headspace Determined By Solid Phase Microextraction (Hs-Spme), Joonyeong Kim

School of Natural and Social Sciences

The compositions of volatile compounds in headspace (HS) analyzed by a solid phase microextraction (SPME) sampling method usually differ from true compositions mainly because the partition coefficients of these compounds between headspace and a SPME fiber are not equal. In this paper we report an analytical strategy to more accurately quantify relative compositions of selected hydrocarbons present in gasoline residue by employing inverse gas chromatography (IGC) coupled with a HS-SPME sampling method. First, IGC measurements using a column packed with a solid support coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were conducted to obtain the thermodynamic and chromatographic data needed for the estimation …

Do I Have Your Attention ? Predicting Users' Engagement During Interviews With Biofeedback, Voice, And Supervised Machine Learning, Thaide Huichapa

Symposium of Student Scholars

Studies show that the quality of the information collected during an elicitation interview, and consequently the quality of the software product that needs to be developed, highly depends on the interviewee's engagement. Because of social expectations, interviewees tend to hide if they are bored or not engaged. To overcome this problem and support the analyst during the interviews, this research uses biometric data and voice features, together with supervised machine learning algorithms, to predict the interviewee's engagement. We built our solution on an experiment consisted of interviewing 31 participants. We collected the data using an Empatica wristband and a default …

Qualified trained teachers, often synonymous with quality teachers, provide students with the necessary formal and structured health education instruction. Two widely used standards that describe quality …

Application Of Quantum Crystallography Methods To Structures Of Macrocyclic 3d-Transition Metal Complexes, Alexander Y. Nazarenko May 2021

Application Of Quantum Crystallography Methods To Structures Of Macrocyclic 3d-Transition Metal Complexes, Alexander Y. Nazarenko

School of Natural and Social Sciences

The vast majority of complex structures are currently accomplished using the Independent Atom Model (IAM), in which atoms are assumed to be spherical, and no chemical bonds exist. Emerging quantum crystallography methods process the same experimental data in better approximation, allowing for deformation of electron density resulting from different types of chemical bonds. This presentation provides several examples of macrocyclic complexes of Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu refined using Tonto and NoSpherA2 software packages. The most visible improvement over existing IAM procedures is reasonable positions of hydrogen atoms; the precision of bond distances is also significantly improved.

Covid-19 And Policy Resistance, Zachary Armstrong May 2021

Covid-19 And Policy Resistance, Zachary Armstrong

COD Library Student Research and Award Symposium

With the COVID-19 pandemic beginning more than a year ago, we've seen many policies put in place in order to combat the virus. These policies included economic lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccine accessibility. Most people recognized the importance of these policies and acted accordingly while a subset found comfort in resistance. This resistance includes ignoring social distancing, not wearing masks, and denying the science behind vaccines. I wanted to know why this was occurring so I analyzed multiple national surveys while also conducting my own in order to find common trends within the data that could help me answer this. …
