Explains how Mountain West Digital LIbrary (mwdl.org) is using a new discovery platform (Primo) in tandem with a new Dublin Core Application Profile to improve search and display of digital objects. The Mountain West Digital Library is a central search portal for digital collections about the Mountain West region. It provides free access to over 300,000 resources in 350 collections from universities, colleges, public libraries, museums, archives, and historical societies in Utah, Nevada, and other parts of the U.S. West.

The presenter will demonstrate the difference and the similarity between Chinese language and English language and analyze the errors of Chinese students' inter-language. As the number of eResources we acquire continues to grow, Eastern Kentucky University Libraries have attempted to develop more effective ways to manage our online collections. Traditional methods for dealing with print resources do not apply to the entire eResources lifecycle, and we have been challenged to think creatively about possible solutions. Our strategies have included adjusting the staffing model of the eResources team, analyzing our workflow using process mapping to identify areas of improvement, and finding appropriate ways to incorporate support staff into the eResources workflow.

Peer Assisted Learning is a pilot project funded under the Teaching Fellowship scheme. It is aimed at students in the BA International Business and Languages, a programme run by the School of Languages in DIT. The project was initiated in September 2009. Second year students are acting as mentors to first year students by providing them with a broad range of support, from academic content to very practical queries. This session will report on an ethnographic study of an English composition class. The researcher observed the class for an entire semester and conducted focus groups and interviews with students and the instructor. The session will describe key activities from the class, including reflections on motivation and learning by both instructors and students. It will conclude with a discussion of how the research findings can help librarians design instruction that engages learners more deeply.

The main concern of this dissertation is to explore the way that a change in the spatial segregation can influence the social networks of inhabitants in a popular district in the city of Campinas. The empiric reference is Vila Castelo Branco, a district built by Cohab – Campinas in 1967 for the low-income population. This case illustrates a process of incorporation of a spatially segregated district and the research developed was the study of the transformation that this spatial change caused to the social network of the people living there. Language barriers in health care are a growing concern for patients and health care providers. According to the 2000 U. S. Census, there is an increasing number of people who spoke a language other than English at home. This number increased from 14 percent (31.8 million) in 1990 to 18 percent (47 million) in 2000 (Shin & Bruno, 2003). Studies have shown that patients with limited English proficiency have less access to care, poorer adherence to treatment regimens and consequently contribute to increased health disparities.
