Elechi Amadi is a Nigerian-born member of the Ikwerre tribe. He was trained in the Nigerian University system, served in the Nigerian army, and was Head of the Ministry of Education. He has published several works of fiction for which he is primarily known. In this work, Amadi attempts to classify, describe, and analyze major areas of Nigerian ethical thought.

"It's a time to experience· friendship and fellowship," said Ted Gleiter, LHRAA Board member, as he discussed the August 26th gathering in Washington, DC to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Lutheran Human Relations.

Gleiter, and Richard Fox, Jr., co-organizers of the event, are making plans to CELEBRATE THE STRUGGLE at First Trinity Lutheran Church in the Capital.

Gleiter said he hoped that all the Lutherans planning to attend the August 27th March on Washington for "Jobs, Peace and Freedom'' would also come the evening before to First Trinity to coordinate a visible Lutheran presence at the Saturday march.

During 1970 and 1973, University of Maryland professor of psychiatry Virginia Huffer spent some time with the women of the Lardil and Kaiadilt tribes who live on Mornington Island in northern Australia's Gulf of Carpenteria [Carpentaria]. Forced to accommodate increasingly to Western ways, these women struggle to maintain traditional linkages while they undergo modern change. This conflict between the past and the future, as well as the everyday realities of their existence, are presented through Huffer's psychobiographical lens, primarily through the intervention and words of her chief informant, Elsie Roughsey, a "cooperative, friendly, generous, and intelligent" Lardil woman who is, …

The church's concern for the equal rights of women did not end on June 30th of this year.

On July 1st, in an act of renew al, the Religious Committee for the ERA (RCERA) adopted a new name and an updated agenda. Called the Religious Network for Equality for Women (RNEW), this revitalized effort represents Protectants, Catholics and Jews. RNEW has about forty member organizations.

What more is there to say about women in ministry? Plenty. And plenty was said from November 3-5 in Deerfield, Illinois at a conference entitled, ''Women in Ministry- A Conference for Lutheran Bishops and Staff." Thirty-nine bishops and their assistants met with fifteen lay and ordained women, following through on an idea conceived at the Conference of Ordained Women, held in 1980 to mark the tenth anniversary of the decision by three major Lutheran bodies to ordain women.

The Italians may have given us the word “fascismo,” but whether we use that word or the Spanish ”falangismo” or the German “National Socialism” (Naziism) we are talking about a form of social organization which has a complex history. Indeed, many persons wrongly believe that fascism as a political system first achieved state power in Italy in the 1920s. However, fascism in modern times first achieved independent (sovereign) power in the Americas -- in the Argentina of Juan Manuel de Rosas (1830s) and in the Confederate States of America (1860-1865).

The combination of modernization and industrialization and the persistence of traditional attitudes serves to create a unique set of tensions and strains within the Japanese social system. The position of women is one such area in which the conflicting demands of this system are especially evident. Women in contemporary Japanese society are still expected to be "good wives and mothers" yet they are also often required to participate in the workforce in an economy beset by spiraling inflation. Interpersonal aggression is analyzed with the use of the symbolic interactionist perspective in this thesis. The literature generally lacks such an analysis. Symbolic interactionism views individuals as active definers and constructors of a reality. Individuals gain a sense of reality and the means by which to define it through the process of being socialized into various groups. That part of reality which is most important to the individual is termed "significant reality." A major part of an individual's "significant reality" is his or her self-concept. Ongka, A Self Account by a New Guinea Big Man is an oral narrative of the history and culture of a New Guinea big man named Ongka. A big man is a political leader within the Melpan culture of New Guinea. Ongka has served as a local government counsellor and is an outstanding political figure in his homeland. He presented his narrative to Andrew Strathern in the Melpan language via cassette recorder and Strathern translated his words into English.
