Commentary On Linda Mealey (1995), The Sociobiology Of Sociopathy: An Integrated Evolutionary Model, Scott F. Stoltenberg, Joseph L. Hernandez Cruz, Don Joseph Stein, Linda Mealey
Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications
[SFS] When Genotype × Environment (G × E) interactions are present, heritability estimates are not interpretable. Mealey cites abundant evidence for G × E interactions in the etiology of sociopathy, thereby completely undermining estimates of the heritability of sociopathy which form the foundation of her model. Without proper evidence for a genetic basis of sociopathy, Mealey’s sociobiological model collapses under its own great weight.
[LM] It is impossible to discuss the constructs “heritability,” “theory of mind,” and “normality” in a single coherent essay. The following three rejoinders address each of these exceedingly complex constructs individually, as each relates to the …

Case Study Of Ethical Leadership And Abraham Lincoln, Jarrod Englebretson
Case Study Of Ethical Leadership And Abraham Lincoln, Jarrod Englebretson
Theses and Graduate Projects
This paper consists of a case study examining the question of Abraham Lincoln and ethical leadership. The definition used in the case study for ethical leadership was a combination of the research of two men, George Shapiro and Peter Kostenbaum. This definition for ethical leadership was then used while looking at certain events, speeches, and writings of Abraham Lincoln both before and during his presidency. The conclusion derived from this analysis is that Abraham Lincoln was an ethical leader and that his leadership should be used as an example of an ethical leader.

The Thatcher Government In Saskatchewan And The Revival Of Metis Nationalism, 1964-71, James M. Pitsula
The Thatcher Government In Saskatchewan And The Revival Of Metis Nationalism, 1964-71, James M. Pitsula
Great Plains Quarterly (through 2013)
The 1960s was a significant decade in the history of the relationship between the government of Saskatchewan and Aboriginal peoples. Premier Ross Thatcher, who led the Liberal party to victory in the April 1964 provincial election, had a strong personal interest in the plight of Indians and Metis, and his government undertook a number of initiatives intended to improve their living conditions. At the same time, Indians and Metis themselves experienced a political awakening and became more assertive. One might have expected many positive achievements flowing from this combination of a well-intentioned government and an energized Aboriginal community. In fact, …
Seaman's Valley And Maroon Material Culture In Jamaica, E. Kofi Agorsah
Seaman's Valley And Maroon Material Culture In Jamaica, E. Kofi Agorsah
Black Studies Faculty Publications and Presentations
Seaman's Valley site was one of the few known places in Jamaica where the Maroons came into face to face combat with the colonial military in a battle that featured the largest force ever sent against the Maroons. In that encounter the colonial forces were routed in a total defeat resulting in the abandonment of arms and ammunition and personnel. This paper compares the material culture from the Seaman's Valley site and Nanny Town. This paper will then show the significance of the longstanding strategic relationship between the two locations during the Maroon struggle for freedom and even after peace …
Collective Intervention In Internal Conflicts: An Examination Of Why States Participate, Andrew L. Blum
Collective Intervention In Internal Conflicts: An Examination Of Why States Participate, Andrew L. Blum
Dissertations and Theses
There is a longstanding debate in the international relations discipline over the relative influence of self-interest and norms on the behavior of states. This study will seek to contribute to this debate by investigating what motivates states to engage in a specific type of behavior, which I will call collective intervention. The multinational operations, which have attempted to resolve internal conflict in places like the Congo, Lebanon, El Salvador, Cambodia, Somalia and Bosnia, are the result of this behavior. Dozens of states, of diverse economic standing, military capability, geographic region, and political ideology have participated in these operations. This study …

The Two Faces Of Peace Building, Michael Harbottle, Eirwen Harbottle
The Two Faces Of Peace Building, Michael Harbottle, Eirwen Harbottle
Peace and Conflict Studies
Excerpt
Terminology, if not precisely defined, can lead to misinterpretation and misunderstanding. This has been the case in the way in which the United Nations has been using peacemaking, peacekeeping and, more recently, peacebuilding. Agenda for Peace, produced by the UN Secretary General in 1992 suffers from some ambiguity in this respect. For example, it refers to the military performing a peacemaking role. The military cannot make peace, that is the role of the diplomat or politician. All that the military can do is to allay, defuse and help to end the manifest violence so that the peacemaking process can …

A reading interest survey was conducted in an attempt to evaluate the whole language reading program in the intermediate grades 4-6. The survey was distributed to seventeen 4-6 grade classes, and students were asked to record their favorite books of the past year. Novels that are a part of our whole language reading program overwhelmingly ranked as student favorites. The survey resulted in the conclusion that literature in our reading program interested students the most.
Based on this information, an annotated bibliography was created for each novel read as part of our whole language program in Somers Point, Thematically-related complementary …

Taking Down The Tupac Amaru: The Best And Worst Of Counterterrorism, Ibpp Editor
International Bulletin of Political Psychology
Many informed observers are citing the Peruvian governments operation to rescue hostages held by the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) at the Japanese Ambassadors residence in Lima, Peru as a textbook success. These observers are already holding up the operation as a standard of counterterrorism (CT) excellence rivaling the Israeli rescue at Entebbe and the German rescue in Somalia. Are these observers right?

The U.S. Defense Industry After The Cold War, Murray L. Weidenbaum
The U.S. Defense Industry After The Cold War, Murray L. Weidenbaum
Murray Weidenbaum Publications
The U.S. defense industry is adjusting to the end of the Cold War far more rapidly and effectively than was generally expected. Current security decision-makers can count on the presence of a strong defense industrial base. But that situation cannot be taken for granted in the years ahead and judging the industrial base capacity is challenging. It requires us to deal with international issues during a time of domestic concern, to consider military outlays in a period of budgetary austerity, and to worry about the competition for the production of weapons systems when the economy is undergoing a wave of …
Responsibility, Submission, And Power: Social Factors Which Influence Rural Out-Migration Among Women In Southern Vietnam, Jeffery D. Wright
Responsibility, Submission, And Power: Social Factors Which Influence Rural Out-Migration Among Women In Southern Vietnam, Jeffery D. Wright
Masters Theses
This paper examines the circumstances that affect the decisions of young women living in rural southern Vietnam to move to Ho Chi Minh City in search of employment. Issues of power, submission, and responsibility that underlie interpersonal relationships in Vietnam will be discussed with special attention to the way they affect the lives of Vietnamese women. It has been widely suggested that rural out-migration in developing countries is largely economically driven. My own field research in Vietnam during the summer of 1996 suggests that the migration of women in southern Vietnam is not simply an attempt to make more money. …

The White Extremist Movement: A Metatheoretical Analysis, Suzanne Vanweelde

This study is a metatheoretical analysis of the white extremist movement in the United States. Five separate major and several smaller white extremist organizations were examined with respect to updated information as to the organizational levels, membership profiles and activities of: (1) the Ku Klux Klan, (2) the Militia, (3) Skinheads, (4) Aryan Nations, (5) the Neo-Nazi and (6) other organizations.
Several theories developed by foundational, developmental and contemporary sociologists were analyzed for their individual concepts. Pertinent and significant concepts were noted as being applicable to a theory of white extremism. Specific examples of the concepts' usage within the extremist …
