A Comparative Study Of The Group Guidance Teaching Method And The Traditional Teaching Method In The Seminary System, Garth P. Monson Jan 1960

A Comparative Study Of The Group Guidance Teaching Method And The Traditional Teaching Method In The Seminary System, Garth P. Monson

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this project was to determine if there was a difference between two methods of teaching seminary: (1) the traditional, authoritative, teacher-centered method, and (2) the group-guidance, student-centered method, with regard to helping the students in solving their problems and becoming better adjusted in their personal and social problems.

Fred T. Dubois, Foe Of The Mormons: A Study Of The Role Of Fred T. Dubois In The Senate Investigation Of The Hon. Reed Smoot And The Mormon Church, 1903-1907, Jay R. Lowe

Theses and Dissertations

In the year of 1903, the right of Reed Smoot to take his seat in the United States Senate was challenged in a protest signed by nineteen prominent citizens from Utah. The protest was submitted to the Senate Committee of Privileges and Elections, a member of which was Fred T. Dubois, Senator from Idaho. The protest charged that the Mormon Church was still practicing polygamy and exercising political domination of its members and that therefore Reed Smoot, an Apostle and leader of this church, was unfit for senatorial obligations. Dubois, believing the worst concerning these charges, took it upon himself …

Toward An Evangelical Philosophy Of Science: The Historical And Recent Background, Oscar T. Walle Nov 1959

Toward An Evangelical Philosophy Of Science: The Historical And Recent Background, Oscar T. Walle

Concordia Theological Monthly

The general title of our discussions indicates that we are interested in the search for a unifying discipline or point of view which may bridge or fuse what Carl Henry calls. "the cleavage between science and religion . . . one of the defacing characteristics of our culture." This author ably states the case when he says, "Evangelical theology, if it is to make a major contribution to synthesis, must propound a Christian philosophy of science tracing the implications of the sovereignty of God for all branches of science." It is the purpose of this presentation to call attention to …

Karl Heim: Panentheism And The Space Of God, Robert C. Whittmore Nov 1959

Karl Heim: Panentheism And The Space Of God, Robert C. Whittmore

Concordia Theological Monthly

Such is the secularism of our century and our society that whoever today wishes to raise the question of God must first find someone interested. Theology in our time is largely a talking of priests and theologians to themselves and a handful of philosophers. Religion is universally tolerated and widely ignored; occasionally it is discussed-dispassionately. But the rest is silence. Rare indeed is the person who now takes religion seriously enough to denounce it. The militant atheist and the anticlerical of earlier ages are gone, and in their place is the serene secularist, secure in the conviction "that he alone …

The Reformation doctrine of justification by faith without the deeds of the Law has been frequently questioned and declared to be injurious to the moral and ethical lives of the children of God.

Engagement And Marriage: A Review Article, David S. Schuller Sep 1959

Engagement And Marriage: A Review Article, David S. Schuller

Concordia Theological Monthly

Europeans have long charged that Americans are the "most married," the "youngest married," and the "most divorced" of any people in the civilized world. What concerns us most is that the charge is true. We do have one of the highest proportions of population married. Our marriage rate is fifty per cent higher than that of a country such as France or Switzerland. It is double that of Mexico or Ireland! We are so eager to marry that we marry at an earlier age with every passing decade. Just within the last ten years the age at which men marry …

The Church's Concern About Sex Attitudes, Harry G. Coiner

It is safe to say, and almost trite, that no word in the English language which describes something that is good and beautiful in itself has come to be associated with as much evil and impurity as has the word "sex."

The Language Of Relationships In Christian Education, Robert E. Rediehs Jun 1959

The Language Of Relationships In Christian Education, Robert E. Rediehs

Bachelor of Divinity

Our Church has been accused of intellectualism. Our educational efforts are said to have produced a "confirmation complex,” resulting in a false understanding of the Christian faith. However, in actual practice the Church teaches both by its words and by its non-verbal setting. It is thought that it would be helpful to study this nonverbal context, especially in terms of relationships. As a suggestion for a partial remedy this thesis explores the media of personal relationships for education.

The Problem Of Interracial Marriage And The Church, Daniel August Reeb Jun 1959

The Problem Of Interracial Marriage And The Church, Daniel August Reeb

Bachelor of Divinity

The title and subject of this thesis is defined largely by its scope. In this paper we are thinking of interracial marriage almost exclusively in terms of Negro-white relationships. Unless otherwise qualified such terms as intermarriage, race mixture, amalgamation, miscegenation, and others, should always be taken in that sense.
