The Paradoxical Content Of The Title Son Of Man, Arno M. Klausmeier Jun 1958

The Paradoxical Content Of The Title Son Of Man, Arno M. Klausmeier

Bachelor of Divinity

The problem with which this thesis will be occupied is the determination of the content of the title "Son of Man" and demonstrating the sources of this content. An investigation of this sort will prove that the content of "Son of Man” is anything but simple; it is paradoxical. Since this title is Jesus' favorite self-designation, writer and reader are justified to expect growth in the "knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of the research presented in the following pages is to enable the writer to serve in a better capacity as a missionary in a foreign country. The collecting and correlating of the various factors in the development and history of the India Mission during the past thirteen years has been a wonderful opportunity for greater preparation in entering foreign mission work. Another purpose for this research is to bring the history of our Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod’s India Mission to a close. Missionary Elmer E. Griesse presented a thesis to Washington University, St. Louis, on the history of the …

A Historical Study Of Church Music Reform, Glen M. Buffman May 1958

A Historical Study Of Church Music Reform, Glen M. Buffman

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Music has been and is an integral part of the life of the Christian Church. History reveals that from the very beginning of the Church, and on through the ensuing centuries, music has played a vital role in the worship of the Church, and has even had a part in the development of the expression of the Christian faith.

The contemporary Christian Church has evidences of producing a complex pattern of church music which is unprecedented in history. In the first place the church life of today has rapidly become decentralized, through the increasing emphasis on departmentalization of the Church …

Conceptions Of Formative Processes In Western Science And Eastern Philosophy, Glenn E. Kaufmann Jan 1958

Conceptions Of Formative Processes In Western Science And Eastern Philosophy, Glenn E. Kaufmann

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The central theme of this paper concerns the way Eastern and Western (sometimes termed Oriental and Occidental) thought view the formation of the world; the means of arriving at these conclusions and the concepts or pre-conceived ideas upon which they are based. Western thought has been limited to views that have developed out of modern science, post-1500; they are mechanistic science, evolution, Whitehead's philosophy pertaining to God and modern physics. For the purpose of this paper, the emphasis in Eastern thought is placed on Mahayana Buddhism, especially the Madhyamika school of philosophy. In India it developed in contact with many …

Some Aspects Of The Asian Situation And Their Significance For Training For Service To The Church, R. Pearce Beaver Nov 1957

Some Aspects Of The Asian Situation And Their Significance For Training For Service To The Church, R. Pearce Beaver

Concordia Theological Monthly

The revival of the ancient religions of Asia is one of the most important factors in the international situation which has developed since World War II. It may be regarded as part of a current worldwide revival of religion, or, on the other hand, there may be some ground to think that the Asian development stimulated a world movement. Religion is now more important as a factor in national and international affairs than has been the case for many centuries. The Asian churchmen, in the book Christianity and the Asian Revolution, state: "Nationalism imparts a new interpretation to religion. Instead …

Papyrus Sixty-Six, Martin H. Scharlemann Aug 1957

Papyrus Sixty-Six, Martin H. Scharlemann

Concordia Theological Monthly

The Arabs who came across some fifty rolls of papyrus in the Fayum district of Egypt, back in 1778, burned them because they could find no purchasers and because they gave forth a sweet aromatic smell as they were consumed by fire. Only one roll escaped this tragic fate and was published as the Charta Borgiana, containing an account of the labors of the peasants along the Nile at Arsinoe for the year A. D. 191-192. It was not until 1889 to 1890, less than seventy-five years ago, that a beginning was made in the systematic exploration and study of …

The Significance Of The P46 In The Second Epistle Of St Paul To The Corinthians According To The Nestle Text, Edward Frederick Peters

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this paper is to try to determine, to a certain extent, the significance of one of these Chester Beatty Papyri, namely P46, in St. Paul's Second Epistle to the Corinthians. It tries to answer some of the questions that are being asked and which must be answered before critics are able to give P46 a final slot in the complicated maze of the history of the New Testament text.

The Solidarity Of The New Israel, Herbert Mayer Jun 1957

The Solidarity Of The New Israel, Herbert Mayer

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The New Testament Israel, or ecclesia, has been the subject of exhaustive study in recent years. A pressing question in this field is that of the relationship between the solidarity of the Israel of the Old and New Testaments. Some have held that there is no particular significance in this relationship. They regard the New Testament Church as the pure product of the teachings of Jesus without any antecedents whatever. Others have found the New Testament Church to be the essential continuation of the Old Testament Israel. The truth, as usual, lies between these extreme positions. A proper understanding of …
